Chapter 21 - First degree murder

As he sat and watched Cerise, his frazzled mind slowly calmed down. It occurred to Zion perhaps staying in this hospital was not the best idea. Afterall, he had no idea how far and wide the corruption had spread.

So, he picked up his phone. Only then did he realize the live broadcast was still on. It was going on when he was dealing with the killer, it was on even now.

" I am sorry, my dear viewers. I would have to stop the broadcast for today here. If you want to watch more of me, please do so on DDA's live platform. " Zion informed them, before turning off the live broadcast.

Then, he called the first hospital owned by the government and Association. Then he called the police, informing them of a killer who's tied up.

It's only after that he looked at the messages.

He does not have many acquaintances. He should not be receiving these many messages.

So, he checked the messages.

They were from the silversword guild hospital.

The hospital had informed him that his wife had passed away at nine ten pm, xxx… . Please acknowledge death, and proceed with relevant procedures to reclaim the body.

There is not one, but three messages.

Zion who has barely calmed down felt his rage come back up from the bottom of his heart. This time, all the mana cores resonated with the rage, making his surroundings even more chaotic than before. Noticing the small cracks on the hospital stool, Zion backed away from Cerise, and calmed himself.

He slowly scanned the message looking for any other links other than the one that completes procedures.

There was a super small script hidden in all the gigantic acknowledge buttons, which said if you think this decision is problematic, complain to the legal sources through here.

Zion carefully enlarged the message, taking care not to press any of the buttons, and chose to complain to the authorities.

He had no idea if it's just a slap on the wrist, or enough fine to bankrupt the hospital, but he just did not want them to have it easy at the moment.

Downstairs, a farce was going on at the moment.

◈◈◈  ▣▣▣  ◈◈◈

Mary Wilcox did not expect Cerise to come out of the dungeon at all.

She did not like how the girl always raised her head with pride, and never yielded even with the small things.

' What is that bitch so proud of ? If not for her mother, I would have taught this twit some manners long ago. ' She thought as she looked at Cerise.

If not for the guild, her mother wouldn't have been able to get where she was. What is so wrong if the guild takes back everything it has given her ? Since she had borne this child after the guild saved her, the child is also the guild's property. She is merely doing as she sees fit with assets belonging to the guild, which is her job.

If the wench had died properly in the dungeon as she was meant to, they would not have to go through all this trouble to clean up the traces. They would not have to use their favors at the hospital, all of which are going to chip away at the profit they are earning from the little bitch.

Now, even the death notification of the player, which works like clockwork, is not working right. The moment a hospital informs the government of the death, a notification is sent to the legal guardian of the player. Since the girl's mother is not around, this notification should be received by the guild. Her brother, who was a general manager, should be the one receiving it.

However, he has already forwarded all the mails about the girl to her, so she should be the one receiving this mail.

" What ? " The little girl at the counter exclaimed.

"Our activities are locked due to mismanagement ? Lady ! Did you complain about our hospital  ? I thought I was doing you a favor. " The nurse at the counter exclaimed, looking at the monitor. The moment a complaint against death is launched, any and all declarations of death by the hospital are put on hold. The government officials will come in person to check the living status of the patients involved, and if there was a problem, the hospital will be cleaned away from top to bottom.

It's a serious matter.

At the same time, an ambulance stopped in front of the hospital.

" Hello, we are here for the patient transfer of one Cerise Mayflower. Can you process it ? " the lead paramedic asked the clerk.

" Hey ! What transfer ? I am the guardian of Cerise Mayflower, I have never approved any transfer. Are you con men trying to steal corpses ? Security ! Security ! " Mary Wilcox responded before the nurse at the counter could answer.

" This Lady ! The guardian of Cerise Mayflower is her husband, who is her legal guardian. He requested transfer through the official channel, so it's impossible this is wrong. If you continue to spout nonsense like this, we will have no choice but to lodge a complaint against your hospital for not keeping with Medical board's standards. " The lead officer who came to transfer was tough.

At this time, yet another vehicle arrived at the gates.

" Hello, I am the sheriff from the criminal investigation department. We are here to arrest a felon, charged with attempted murder. We ask for co-operation. " The police said, showing his ID.

" That … Do you have a warrant ? " The nurse asked, almost perfunctorily.

Obviously, no hospital likes allowing police in. Unfortunately for her, the police came with full prep.

" Yes, we do. "

He retrieved a document and flashed it in her face, before she could see the content , urging her to move forward. The nurse had no choice but to move.

" eleven-oh-three, eleventh floor. " he added.

' thats .. that's Cerise Mayflower. ' The nurse realized. However, she is but a small person, and the orders came from above to process this death. Since she doesn't want to bear any criminal liability, she would co-operate from beginning to end.

" Officer ! I received orders from my boss, Lehman kook to pronounce the death of the little girl in this room. Is this of any relevance to this case ? " the nurse asked.

The officer was shocked.

" Yes, Miss. If you have the names of any other relevant persons, it's great. " The officer added. To think they meet a whistleblower enroute ! This is luck from the heavens blowing to raise them up !

" Actually, Mr. Kook works with Mary Wilcox, you have seen her downstairs. Every year around dungeon orientation time, they will be recording a lot of deaths. All these deaths are processed by Mr. Kook, and his assistant doctors Bates and Hide. Mr. Bates is a head nurse. Mr. Hide is a doctor's assistant and forensic doctor. The autopsies are usually done by him. They never ever let any other nurse or doctor touch these cases. One time, an intern doctor thought he could save one of the patients and wanted to go for the operation because it gave the patient a fifty percent chance. But doctor Kook turned it down because the cost is to be borne by the hospital. I wanted to ask, will we be charged with a crime because we work in the same place ? " The nurse asked eagerly.

" That .. as long as you cooperate well, and give the witness accounts, you should not be charged. " The officer added.

" Then, I have a lot more information. I have been keeping a tally. Can I get witness protection or something from the police if I give this information ? " The nurse asked.

' Jackpot ' both police officers thought at the same time.

To think they would hit such a jackpot just because they happened to be the ones in the office ? … awesome !

Both police officer's eyes have taken on the sheen of greed and determination, and their smiles turned feral. This promotion and awards, they are getting it even if they have to fight to death !

" Of Course Miss. As long as the information is useful, we will make sure you are protected. " they both assured at the same time.

The nurse, with two buck teeth and moist eyes, smiled beatifically at them.

The three of them shared an insider's smile.

In no time, they were in the room. They entered the room, taking hold of the killer.

" Ah ! " The nurse gasped when she saw the man.

" Do you know him ? " the officer asked.

" He is Peter Wilcox, the son of the lady downstairs. She was the one reporting the player's death. " the nurse breathed in.

She had always expected some corruption, but not corruption like this.

Then she looked at the girl, and gasped once more.

" She .. How did she recover ? " the nurse asked in shock.

" Her natural recovery stats are great. I just cleaned her wounds, and she recovered like this. " Zion answered.

The police looked at each other's eyes. This is first degree murder by willful neglect. The fire lit in their eyes changed cold murderous intent, like a pair of hunting wolves.
