"Where is that little fly that usually hangs around you gone?"
"What, you mean the Wyvern?"
"Ah, is that what he calls himself?"
"No, he calls himself Eron." I replied. I was in a dark space right now facing a doppelganger of myself who claimed he was Hekate. Well, perhaps he did not wish to show his actual face or something, but he said he would explain more when I was ready to understand.
Currently, we were rid of any influence from the outside world as our five senses were dulled in this environment.
"No matter, I can find him after I kill all of them."
"Huh? The people?" I asked, a bit shaken by his sudden declaration.
"Yes, but just the ones here. I hope you have no qualms about that?"
"Why are you asking? You will kill them either way, whether or not I agree with you." I replied.
"True. However, getting your approval makes it less burdensome on me."
"How so?"
"Um… it doesn't actually. But what does that matter? Just know that I wish to get your approval first, seeing as you are a tad close to some of them here." He strained his face for some time as he thought of a good answer for me, but ultimately couldn't find one.
"Anyway, do you know why I have to kill them?"
"You never said you had to kill them, just that you would. That clearly stated that my opinions were already worthless."
"Oh. My bad then." There was some silence between us for a while before he broke it as he continued. "Don't you want to know why I have to kill them?"
"Perhaps. Perhaps not. It doesn't matter anyway, right?"
"No, it doesn't. I'll still say it though."
"Well go on, then." I urged after he had kept silent for a while too long.
"It is because… they know of my power. This means they have to die."
"Just because they know of your power? That's an absurd reason to kill people for!" I protested.
"Yes, yes. Human lives are worthless anyway, so it doesn't matter if the reason is absurd or not. Plus, they'll be dead in a few years so I'm just helping them get along quicker."
"Justify yourself however you want. You are still killing them."
"Since when did you become so soft with the humans?" He queried, in a rather worried tone.
"Soft with the humans? I am a human!"
"Oh, right. Sorry for my shortsightedness." He apologized.
"What are you anyway?" I asked as I sighed softly.
"Me? I'm a god." He answered swiftly, puffing up his chest to show his pride. It didn't look too good.
I had actually seen the system state that his race was 'god', but it was rather unbelievable. Why would I have a god living in my body. I mean, he is a god, for gods sakes! He can do anything, right?
"You can do anything, right?" I paused briefly after this question before dropping another assumption. "I mean, you are a god and all, so you can do anything. Right?"
"Humans. Whoever put those assumptions in your heads needs his put on a spike." He sighed after saying this. "Let me tell you a story. This was something that happened a few years ago."
"How few is a few years?" I asked.
"Um… about a thousand or so. Hee hee…"
"A thousand? And you call that few? How old are you, really?"
"You know how you are twelve and you can say that seven years ago was a few years ago?" He asked.
"Mm hmm." I nodded in affirmation.
"Well, I'm a little over a thousand years old, so when I say a few years ago, I could also be referring to a few centuries, okay?"
"In which case you say centuries and not years, okay?"
"Whatever. Can I go on?" He asked, harbouring a bored look on his face.
"Sure, sure. I'd love to hear exploits from a thousand years ago." I said excitedly.
"About a thousand years ago, I was born. As gods, we are born with an innate mastery over a certain field, see. But, I was different. I was born with no mastery whatsoever." He paused to let me digest that.
"Go on, don't let me slow you down." I said.
"Well, all gods have a certain proficiency in all fields but only have one they are master of. If a field had been mastered, no other god can be born with mastery over that field. The only way for the mastery of that field to be passed on is if that god is defeated by someone who is not a god. That person who defeats him then becomes a god, except the person is on the god level or higher. For me…"
"Wait, wait, wait. Hold up. Did you say higher? You mean there are levels beyond even gods? Existences much more powerful than gods?"
"Oh, humans and their shallow minds." He sighed deeply as he contemplated my questions. "Your lot are just frogs in a well. You can only see a little part of the sky, or in this case, the world. The world is much bigger than you can imagine, young fellow. And no matter what, there is always someone stronger than you are. Never forget this."
I silently agreed with his words and steeled my resolve to get power even more. The more power I had, the less people would want to mess with me, right?
"As I was saying, a god is born with mastery over a new field. Though, gods are hardly ever born. You may see the birth of a new god only once in every five thousand years or so. As far as I know, there have been no new births since my time. However, because of how unique I was having no field of mastery and all; I was cast out. My godhood was taken away and I was sent to Earth to live out my life as a human."
"But the fates were on my side, see. Before I was stripped of my godhood, I managed to break my soul into two separate shards. Because of that, only one shard was stripped of godhood and the other survived. If it wasn't bad enough that my godhood was stolen from me, they made me back into an infant and wiped my memories of that place."
My jaws were ajar as I heard this story. I never really expected something like this.
"How many gods exactly are there? We only know of five, see. And also, if they wiped your memory, how do you still remember all this?" I asked.
"First off, there are as many gods in the Weather as there are stars in the sky. Literally. Second, I can remember because I was the shard whose godhood was preserved. You, on the other hand, are the one who can't remember."
"What? That is absurd! Are you saying… Am I a god?!" I screamed.
