#Chapter Fifty-Five
It happened almost instantly.
Gunner was fired and he disappeared from the school before Kitty could get to him. She visited his office, but found another school guidance counsellor who was a woman this time. She asked her about Gunner but did not receive a good reply. So Kitty went to Melanie, only to find out that he was also stripped of his foster parent status and she was now back in the system, waiting for another family to take her in. The media reported widely on him and scores of interviews with his wife popped up. Margaret dragged his name through the mud, milking the public attention with made-up stories about his past and his supposed depravity and the public drank the words that left her mouth up like starving dogs. But one thing stood out to her, and it was Gunner's only appearance on television.
"I apologise for my mistakes. I know I am a grown adult and I should know better but my desires took hold and I lost control. There is no excuse. I applied for the job with only one intention, and that intention was to get closer to Kitty. She was an attractive young lady and I wanted her for myself, like a depraved man. I betrayed the trust she put in me as faculty by exploiting her innocence, and I forced her into a sexual relationship she did not want. She is a victim, my victim and I know I can't take this trauma away from her, ever. What we had was not mutual and I preyed on her, thinking nobody would ever find out. Again, I apologise and I know I can't be forgiven, but I would like to ask everyone a favour. Leave Kitty alone."
