Chapter 56 - Chapter Fifty-Six

#Chapter Fifty-Six

She rushed in and out of his house, the rain pouring down on her. She bolted into his empty home again and sped in and out of every room, her body dripping water repeatedly everywhere she went. Her breath was out of her lungs and she ran to the backyard, only to find it empty. She raced to the front door again and stopped at the lawn in the middle of the downpour.

Where was Gunner? Oh God, God, God!

She paced up and down, clicking her phone on and calling him again, only for it to be cut off after some rings. She texted him but none of her messages sent. Running around the lawn, she tried to find something that told her that he was still living in his house but every sign told her he had moved out.

God! God! God!

She collapsed to her feet at the lawn, her head buried between her legs as she cried. Lifting her phone up again, she messaged him repeatedly until slowly, a second tick was added to all her messages and her heart leapt. She texted him furiously, sending endless messages. But she only received one reply from Gunner.

And that was: It's over. Leave town.
