#Chapter Fifty-Four
"Nothing happened!" Kitty said for the tenth time.
"Was the sex good?" the interrogator asked her.
"We didn't have sex."
"If you say so," he said. "We know you're honest. But imagine you had a relationship with this man, Gunner. Where would you guys do it?"
"I'm not going to answer that."
"We're only speaking hypothetically. You're not confessing to anything."
"I said I'm not going to answer that."
"Do you think he's handsome?"
Kitty pushed back into her chair. "Can I get a glass of water, please?"
"I'm sorry, but our water dispenser is broken."
"I saw a guy filling a cup with water when you opened the door and walked in just now, you asshole."
"Well, that was a long time ago."
"Did the water tank tell you telepathically that it wasn't working anymore? You haven't left the room."
"My friend there," he pointed at the man standing in the corner. "He just came in and told me just now."
"Yeah, right," Kitty said. "You're just trying to wear me down."
"What was your father like growing up? How did he view women?"
"Fuck you."
He smiled. "Do you see this?" he pointed to the phone in his hand. "I just got a text."
"And you're telling me because?"
"Gunner is in the other room with one of my friends," he said. "And he told me that Gunner just confessed. He said that there was a sexual relationship, and my friend thinks he really loves you."
Kitty sat there, frozen. "And?"
"Do you know that lying to me is a criminal offence? You're an adult now, Kitty, and you could be tried. And if you lie in court, that's perjury and your sentence could be long. Do you want to spend the rest of your life in prison?"
She swallowed. "I don't believe you."
"I know what you guys have is love, but the law is the law. Honestly, if you ask me? I think age is just a number. If you cooperate, then I promise you Gunner will have a light sentence."
"Really?"
"Trust me, Kitty. I promise it."
"Fine," she said. "We did have sex. In fact, we couldn't stop. But I swear my life on this. We only started fucking after I turned 18."
A small smile spread on his lips. He looked at the man in the corner. "You got that?"
"Yes," the man replied.
"Please believe me," Kitty said to the interrogator who got up without another word to her. "Wait! Where are you going?"
But the interrogator left the room without regarding her at all.
