Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

#Chapter Four

The bold print screamed at Kitty as she skimmed through the paper in her hands, until she herself wanted to scream and let all the fury in her out for the entire world to hear. The headlines reported about her father's torrid affair with his underage student, and they did not bother to censor his name, nor his family name. With shaking hands, Kitty continued to run her eyes down the paragraphs until she reached the part she was looking for.

Emmie.

That was her name. What was she like? Why did her father sacrifice so much, so foolishly for this girl? She had to know who this girl was, and she desperately wanted to speak to her, to have a better idea of the kind of affair her father had. But as she continued to read, one phrase stood out to her.

Names printed in this article have been changed to protect identities.

Emmie wasn't her real name. She groaned loudly at the setback. She should've seen this coming miles away. She was a minor, and of course the court would have a gag order to protect her identity. The public was cruel to ephebophiles, but they also reserved a special type of cruelty to victims of it.

Setting the newspaper down on the table, she went away to prepare some breakfast for herself but she was not even able to open the jam when she rushed out of the kitchen and headed down the hallway, stopping before her father's room.

She had to find out more. Things were dire for her. Her father's mistake affected not only his life, but it was also spilling over to hers. She told herself repeatedly that he would forgive her intrusion into his privacy. Repeating the mantra, she pushed the handle down.

The door did not move.

Kitty put her shoulder into the door and applied pressure on it, hoping the door was simply stuck, and she would be able to enter the room and find out more about the girl this way.

But the door was firmly locked.

"Fuck," Kitty said as she stared at the door to her father's office. He had obviously thought things through, and she regretted not entering earlier while the police were busying themselves with the materials in his office. She stood rooted to the ground, her mind running on blank as she started to grasp that her life had positively been ruined.

It was then that the most ingenious idea struck her hard.
