#Chapter Eight
Kitty raised her hand and immediately someone threw a paper ball at her head. She glared behind her and returned her attention to Mrs. Edwards. She was her Math teacher and they absolutely adored each other. She was like the sister she never had, and being a student in her class was the only calming thing about school.
"That's not nice, Kevin," Mrs. Edwards chided and the boy muttered a quick apology which clearly demonstrated that it was insincere. "Yes, Kitty?"
"I have a question about this part - " and she launched off into a deep discussion with her. She answered all her questions wonderfully and left her feeling satisfied.
"Now, class, be more like Kitty and participate more in class," Mrs. Edwards said and Kitty immediately winced. While she meant well, it was words like these that put a target behind her back. It was lost on her that she had done that, though.
"Well, what a teacher's pet," Becky remarked and the entire class laughed.
"Becky, please," Mrs. Edwards said.
"What?"
She seemed to want to say something but ended in a sigh instead. "Nevermind." Even the teachers were afraid of Becky. Class went on and soon, it ended. Kitty began to pack up. "Kitty."
"Yeah?" Kitty said as she lifted her head.
"I have some words I want to say to you, can you stay back?"
"Sure," Kitty said and they waited until every student streamed out of the class. "What's up?"
"So, many of the teachers have been noticing this more and more lately and we're worried," she started and Kitty wanted to snort. "We know you're being bullied by Becky and we want you to know that we don't support this."
Sure, they said things like that but refused to lift a finger to help. In a town the size of Dalgaco, Becky's influence was fearsome indeed.
"I mean it, Kitty, really," she told her. "It's not your fault that your father made that mistake with a minor."
"Thanks," Kitty said.
"So we had a meeting about it, because things are getting out of hand. Let us help you."
Kitty smiled. So they were finally going to report Becky! "What are you guys gonna do?"
"We want you to arrange a meeting with the school guidance counsellor so he can help you work through your problems at school and at home."
Her heart sank. As if she needed some old man to listen to her talk. This was the best they could come up with?
"Are you serious?"
"He's very good at what he does," Mrs. Edwards began. "And - "
"I'm not seeing him."
"Please - "
"This is the best you guys could come up with?"
"Give it a try, Kitty."
"No."
"We - "
"I don't think I've made myself clear enough. I said," Kitty started. "Fuck no."
Mrs. Edwards eyes widened. "But - "
"To hell with the school guidance counsellor!"
