To make a promise is a serious thing. A contract between system users, however, cannot be broken.
It really can't, because Jaden really tried.
Sofia said "Activate God Mode."
But the only thing he could think was: hell no!
Jaden was getting seriously sick of losing. He wasn't a fan of the whole fighting thing, but if he was going to fight he didn't want to lose.
And yet here he was. Tricked by a woman's charming kiss. What was he, some sort of pathetic simp!?
So even though he thought: "hell no," deep down his system was saying, "hell yeah". This was the strength of a contract between systems. No matter what Sofia told him to do, he had to do.
If he knew how serious it was, of course he wouldn't have agreed!!
But he didn't like losing. And with God Mode, he wouldn't lose. It wasn't a good guess, it was a fact. When a mortal faced a god, they didn't try to fight back. They bowed down.
[Activate: God Mode]
The power surged through his veins like the deep vibration of an electric guitar. If you've ever been to a Metallica concert, you know what that feels like. It's a deep sort of feeling, as though something in your body is fundamentally changing.
Sofia was standing before him, staring down at him. Had she known this would happen? Her face was blank, perhaps this was a surprise to her as well.
But she asked him to activate God Mode? He hadn't told anyone about God Mode! Such a big thing to miss, almost like it was a plot hole in his life.
He had been stupid, too confident.
Jaden was on the floor, blood all around him. But now he was not injured. Gods don't bleed, after all, they make others bleed.
He floated up, as if there was a gust of wind underneath him. Power, indescribable power, was all Jaden could feel.
If the first time he had used God mode was like trying your first beer when you were 15 at a party in your friend's basement, this was like being shown to a pool of straight tequila and being told to go for a swim.
This was the sort of power one could get addicted to.
And Jaden liked it.
Monsters are drawn to their emperor like a magnet. Jaden was lost in the feeling of power and greatness swirling through his mind, but as he floated higher and higher a thousand portals appeared in the sky above Manila.
Out of each portal crawled a King Class Monster. People ran to the windows of the training facility, shocked at the horror outside.
A cloud of tentacles, claws, and fangs. Nothing like this had ever happened before. Even Crisanto wasn't prepared for this.
One young man stood at a window, his mouth open in shock. A giant monster flew in front of him and opened up his mouth. It was the first attack of many that night. He closed his eyes tight, waiting to die.
But he never did. He opened his eyes up hesitantly. There was a huge hole in the wall where the blast had come through. But standing there, protecting him, was a young man with wild black hair.
Crisanto Cruz.
He turned around and said, "You don't have to worry. No one will die, because I am here."
It was a wild claim to make, even for Crisanto. He had taken down King Class Monsters, but a thousand of them?
And yet, these words alone were enough to give hope. Now that Crisanto was there, a crowd of people activated their systems, pulling out glowing swords, bows, guns, and boxing gloves. They launched into the air next to their savior, hearts ablaze.
It was truly a great sight.
However, no one thought to look at what was happening inside. They simply ignored it. They must have assumed it wasn't important compared to what was happening outside.
They couldn't be more wrong.
The hallways were completely empty, so why was there the sound of someone skipping through them cheerfully? The door to the skirmish circle was pulled straight off its hinges like it was a piece of toast being pulled from the toaster.
In a high falsetto opera voice, the newcomer began to sing: "Heyy babies, I'm the pie guy!"
