Chapter 17 - #17 Homeless

Zeth woke up. The surroundings were very quiet. He stepped outside of the crumbling house he slept in and looked around. There were dilapidated houses and decaying corpses everywhere. Zeth said, "What a beautiful sight."

This was how Zeth's life went. Every day, he had to kill demons to survive and cook and eat their flesh. He slept in different places every day. Zeth often wandered through destroyed villages or cities and looted them. He would find a few useful items and leave. By evening, he would search for a place to sleep. Zeth was all alone. He used to have his brother Thane with him. But three years ago, when Zeth was 12 years old, Thane was defeated by demons. Since that day, Zeth traveled alone. He managed to stay alive, but he didn't even know why he was doing it.

He carried a large sword on his back with both hands. With this, he could easily kill low-level demons. No matter how strong the demons were, Zeth was stronger. Zeth had a special ability. He could instantly increase his muscle mass and size. However, he usually fought demons without using this move because although it gave him immense power, it also consumed a lot of his energy.

Zeth had only known two people in his life. His brother Thane and Vordim. Vordim who took care of them until Zeth turned 8 years old. Vordim was a good father figure. But he was killed by demons 7 years ago. Since then, Zeth began to travel with his brother and took care of him. Of course, his brother also died. Zeth was alone. He had no one. He was also depressed. Unhappy. Life was very meaningless to him. The state of the world saddened him deeply.

"I wonder if there are others like me...?" Zeth said. What he wanted to know was if there were other humans besides him. Zeth thought it could be possible. If he could survive, there had to be others. "It wouldn't be bad to see a few living humans," he said. For years, Zeth had only seen dead people.

"Well, I'm hungry.

Zeth began to search for breakfast. He was looking for demons here and there. After about half an hour of walking, Zeth spotted a lone demon wandering by itself. The demon seemed powerful, "mid-level." Zeth thought to himself and quietly changed his path.

Zeth had never fought a mid-level demon before. While low-level demons were relatively easy for him, a mid-level demon could overpower him. He didn't want to put himself in danger, after all, easy prey was abundant. Why should he risk himself? Just as Zeth was about to walk away, he heard a grotesque scream from behind. "Here we go," he said to himself, he would have to fight.

Zeth wanted to make the first move. He quickly turned around, unsheathed his sword from his back, and activated his power. Within a few seconds, Zeth had increased his weight and size by 1.5 times. Yelling, Zeth ran towards the demon and delivered the first strike. The demon had protected itself with its arms, and Zeth's sword got stuck in the demon's arm. The demon had its knees broken and was in a defensive position. If Zeth had been a little stronger, he could have brought the demon down. Zeth quickly pulled his sword out of the demon's arm and swung it towards its head. The demon dodged this attack by leaning backward.

Zeth made a second attack towards the demon's legs, but the demon evaded it by doing a backwards somersault. Zeth assumed a defensive position, and the demon swiftly leaped towards him. Even though Zeth defended himself with his sword at the last moment, the demon's claw had scratched his face. After this attack, the demon stopped a bit away and looked at Zeth with surprise in its eyes. Zeth immediately turned towards the demon and made another attack. The demon escaped yet again and immediately struck at Zeth's back, leaving a small scratch with its claw. Screaming in pain, Zeth turned around, looking at the demon with anger.

The demon whispered, "How are youuu?" Zeth ignored the taunt and continued to attack. The demon was skillful at dodging the attacks and quickly counterattacking.

The battle had been going on for 20 minutes. Zeth was extremely tired, barely able to hold his sword, and had lost a lot of blood. He had small puncture wounds on his back and stomach. There were deep cuts on his left arm, and his right leg was stumbling. The demon had also suffered damage but not as severe as Zeth's. The demon could continue fighting, but Zeth was on the brink of collapse. The demon started to sprint towards Zeth, who was too exhausted to even defend himself. Just as the demon was about to strike, its head suddenly exploded from the inside. Blood and brain matter splattered everywhere. Of course, this was a beautiful and familiar sight for Zeth.

Right before Zeth passed out, he saw a man. He had white hair, was of average height, and was smiling at Zeth.

And Zeth fainted.
