Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: A Request to Tulum

My eyes shot open. My mind was completely blank. My heart thumped loudly as his hands rested on my neck pulling me closer.

I didn't know how but I closed my eyes and kissed him back. His hands kept caressing my face, his kiss became deeper.

I moaned against his lips and I could feel him smirk against my lips. That alone sent shivers down my spine.

Suddenly he pulled away leaving me breathless.

"Do you feel better now?" He asked as he held me close. His warm breath against my cheek made goosebumps appear all over my skin.

"Mhmm," I murmured, letting his warmth engulf me.

"Well, this was just for... Lessening the pain," He scratched his head. He was nervous.

Before I could answer, someone gently knocked on my door. My heart stopped. The last time I entered the room, I didn't lock it.

The person knocked again and this time, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the door's brass handle being pulled. The door was open and now I was doomed.

" Carmen!" I almost shouted., "What are you doing here at this hour?"

"I heard what happened my dear. How are you?"

"Better," I sighed.

"You have not eaten anything. And why were you taking care of the wound by yourself? ," She looked around, a bottle of medicine was still open along with some dirty dressing.

Where did Juan go?

"I didn't want to bother anyone," I lied.

She rolled her eyes, "Why would you bother us and Why would you think that? You're the first lady of the house, no one will ever let anything happen to you," she exclaimed.

Why would I make the maids work for me when my husband, who paid them, didn't give a damn about me? "Thanks. I will ask for it next time,"

"I will bring you something to eat. Don't sleep with an empty stomach, okay?"

"How about a glass of milk? I don't exactly feel like eating something heavy,"

"Be back in a minute," My eyes followed her steps as she was walking towards the door.

I let out a huge breath after she closed it. What would happen if she caught us?

"Juan?" I whispered. He didn't respond. Maybe he was in the bathroom. Before I knew it, Carmen had already come back with a glass of milk and a bowl of strawberries.

My heart stopped again and I tilted my head like a Disney princess would after hearing the charming prince had arrived for her, except I did it out of being nervous and it was Carmen, not Prince Charming.

"Make sure you eat before sleeping, okay my dear?" she smiled sweetly.

"Okay momma, I promise,"

She laughed lightly and left the room closing the door behind her. I opened the strawberry bowl, and the sweet smell coming from it made my mouth water.

Then I remembered again,

"Hey!" I whispered.

Before I knew it, the door opened again. Carmen came in, " I forgot to clean the mess. Oh My God!, I guess I am already getting old.

" I can take care of it, "

" It's just cleaning up the mess. It doesn't take more than five minutes," She cleaned the place and it was clean once more," Oh, I almost forgot. The first aid kit needs newer medicines. I think the present ones have already expired, "

" Where is the kit? "

" In the bathroom, "

I froze.

Until now I wasn't sure where Juan had hidden himself. What if he was in the bathroom?

Carmen noticed my silence.

"Madam? Are you alright?"

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" I forced a smile.

Her eyes wandered over my leg. "Just do what you have to do,"

"Okay then. I will take the expired ones very quickly,"

I closed my eyes, silently praying for the impossible. I heard the sound of the bathroom door being opened, and then she got inside.

Juan. Where was he? If the bathroom was his hiding place, I was practically destroyed.

I opened my eyes at the sound of the door closing behind me, the high heels she wore produced a louder sound as she was coming near.

"It's done," She said calmly, "Good night, Madam,"

I nodded, "Good night, Carmen,"

She went out quietly closing the door behind her.

When I heard the door close I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Finally," I whispered, soothing my beating chest with my hand.

"Has she left already?" I almost threw the bowl of strawberries. The guy finally exposed himself, good gracious!

"You were hiding under the bed?"

"Obviously,"

"I almost had a panic attack,"

"Me too," I noticed how he was breathing a bit faster than he normally would.

"You were also nervous?" I laughed as I took another strawberry. He stayed quiet and later decided to change the subject.

"I heard you calling her momma," He looked at me, his face holding a serious expression. I only nodded.

"Well. I guess you miss your mother," He looked a bit sad, a reflection of my own emotions right now. I missed my mother so much. Something that led me to ask him to do such a thing.

"Can I ask you a favor?"

"Sure,"

"Could you go to Tulum for me?"

I looked up to see his reaction. He seemed startled by the question. I bit my lip nervously hoping he would agree.

"Sure, to do what though?" He asked.

"To see my mother, "

Juan's POV

.

I could hear the nervousness in her voice. She bit her lips. That made me feel so many things: sadness, nervousness, any unpleasant feeling.

"Is there a reason why?" I asked looking straight into her eyes, "I mean, you could go there to see her yourself,"

"Marcus wouldn't even let me," She looked down, "The last time I saw her, she was sick and was about to be operated on. Marcus didn't let me see her. Afterwards.

My heart sank. It became even heavier pretending to hear this for the first time when I read the papers over and over again.

"I don't know what else to do," Her voice cracked a little as tears started to fill her beautiful green eyes.

I crouched down and pulled her into a warm hug. It was clear in her cracking voice and her tears that she missed her mother and she was desperate to see her.

"I will try to find her," How could I tell her about her mother's death? I couldn't bear to break her heart even more. Hope was the best choice for now. It was a better choice than to mourn for her.

No matter how much I was breaking inside, that was the only thing I could do, I needed to do that for her. Maybe I would tell her later, just not now.

"Thank you," She sobbed as I pulled her from the hug. I looked at her face which was looking down, wiping her tears with her hands.

I reached out to wipe her tears with my thumbs. They were wetter than I thought. But I didn't care. I wanted her to stop crying at least before I went away.

"Don't cry, Camila " I whispered.

I stood up and picked her up bridal style. She wrapped her arms around my neck and clung onto me as if she would disappear if I let go.

I gently put her on the right side of the bed.

I sat down next to her. "Sleep, you need to rest,"

She nodded. My hands caressed her hair softly. Slowly her soft breaths filled the room.

As I watched her slowly fall asleep, I felt bad for her. Having to lie to her was the hardest thing to do.

I leaned forward and kissed her forehead. I wanted her to be safe.

"Goodnight, Camila."

I then stepped out of the room through the same window I used to get in there.
