Charlotte's POV
As I walked out of his study, I felt my heart constricted in outrage and perfidy. The fact that he has a chosen mate granulates my stance, and the fact that I was given out by my father weakened me. In that case, Alpha Durango only sees me as a commodity he can toy with.
Didn't he for a split second consider my feelings? For fuck's sake he is supposed to be a father to me. Even if he isn't my biological father, he watched me grow up.
He was the father I knew, but for some reason he never saw me as his daughter. I'm pretty certain that he would never trade Rose's happiness for the world, but he can do that to me, after all, I'm just my mother's daughter.
A lone tear lurched down my cheeks and I wiped it off immediately and gritted my teeth as tears clouded my eyes, but I couldn't let it roll off. I looked up at the beautiful sunny sky to get the tears intact and it worked.
His mom must have been the fated mate of his father, but how she spoke to me as though my mere existence was a curse.
I don't even know where I'm heading to, but I let my leg take me wherever it wants. If only wishes were horses, my life would be better than anyone could imagine.
"Hey there!" I heard someone call out, but then I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone.
"Charlotte!" The voice called out more louder this time.
I turned and saw that it's Jasper's Beta, I rolled my eyes at him and continued walking. But he increased his pace and caught up with me in no time."Good morning, hope you slept well?" He asked.
"Why were you calling me?" I inquired while wrapping my hands around my chest and staring at him in annoyance.
"I'm sorry for my attitude towards you the previous day." He said instead.
"That wasn't the question I asked you."I responded.
"Well, I deduced you must be heading towards the training ground, and I'm certain that you don't yet know your way around here, so I want to show you to the training ground." He replied with a serious face.
"Very thoughtful of you, but I can manage just fine. So please leave. I don't appreciate your company." I said as a matter of factly not in any way trying to coat my words.
"I'm sorry, but you have to deal with that at least for today because I was instructed by the Alpha himself to lead you to the training ground." He announced and began to walk ahead of me.
"It's a pity that what you thought isn't what you saw." He said in a low tone, but then I heard him clearly, but I didn't utter a word.
"Our Alpha can really be disingenuous when he wants to be. But then I didn't expect him to be so cruel to his fated mate, but then his reason will make you hate his fingertip if that's possible." He said, then increased his pace. I ceased on my tracks for a while.
Then his mom's words came running into my mind. I have to get to the root of this and find out the meaning of this statement.
When we arrived at the training ground, I saw many warriors, some already in their wolf form and why others were taking off their clothes.
"This is the place. We have up to a hundred and twenty warriors here, not more than thirty of which are females, while the rest are males.
This is the chief in command, he will be your trainer. I know that you're used to being the trainer, but then he has been in this position for more than a decade, leading our soldiers to wars and coming back as a victor. " I nodded at his explanation.
"Hey!" He called out to the chief commander, who was having a discussion with one of his men.
"Good morning Grey." He greeted me with a broad smile as he walked towards us.
"I brought a recruit, directly from the Alpha himself." Grey said with a serious tone.
"Is she the one?"The commander asked while staring at me.
"Yes, she is." He replied.
"Okay, she is not from our pack, right?"Isn't that obvious? His questions are beginning to irk me. Why would he be bent on asking irrelevant questions?
"Yes, enough of the questions. I will be on my way now." Grey announced and patted the commander's back and nodded at me, then turned and strode off."
"What is your name?" The commander asked.
"Charlotte Al…just Charlotte." I replied. I almost said Adolph, but then why should I answer the name of the man who sold me off. He doesn't deserve it at all.
"Can you stop blanking out? You're joining today instead of showing off some characteristics of a true warrior, you're already making it clear to me that you shouldn't be here! A true soldier should be alert at all times!" He yelled, and I took a step backwards as the loudness of his voice was threatening to make me deaf.
"Can you keep your voice down?"I asked with a low tone, as he had successfully succeeded in drawing the attention of all the warriors towards me.
"Join the rest." He uttered and I walked past him.
"Hello, I'm JK. Happy to meet you." A man standing beside me said while stretching forth his hands for a handshake.
"I'm Charlotte." I responded while shaking his hand with a smile.
Before I knew it, I was in the midst of almost all the soldiers. As they shook my hand one after the other and introduced themselves to me.
"JK why did you glue your arm around Charlotte's neck? She's not your mate, so quit it." One of them said, and they all burst into enchanting laughter and I didn't even know when I joined them. They're so friendly, I must say.
"Do I need to remind you all that we're not here for mere jamboree?"The commander's voice silenced everyone.
