Chapter 13 - Duel With the Pickpocket

"Congratulations on your new car!"

The sexy saleswoman waved at Traver as he got into his brand-new sports car. Trevor lowered the window slightly to wave back at her.

"Thank you. Have a nice day, Lara!"

The man began to step on the gas pedal to leave the car showroom.

"Finally!" Trevor shouted shortly after that. "I can't believe I could afford one of the most expensive cars. I didn't even dare to dream of one before, but it's mine now. Being rich is the best!" He added like a little child who gets his favorite toy.

'I am happy if you're happy, sir. You deserve it. In the future, I am sure you will definitely be richer to buy all the things you dream of,' AI T said in his mind.

"Of course, I will!" Trevor smirked.

There was a pause for several minutes because Trevor was too focused on driving his new car. Holding the steering wheel made him have fun.

"But... how do I get this car back to the apartment? People there will get suspicious if they see me driving this. Not to mention there, will be some thugs who are tempted to steal or damage it when it is parked on the side of the road."

'Your available balance is $44,273, sir. I think that's enough for you to rent a better apartment than the one you have. We can find one with good parking and security system,' AI T suggested.

"Should I? I am comfortable enough with my current apartment, though. After all, we just paid off the rent for the next two months, wouldn't it be a waste to just leave like that?"

At that time, their car passed through the elite apartment area in the city. They can see many skyscraper residential buildings that stand majestically on both sides of the road.

There was a time when Trevor often dreamed of living there, but all of that was clearly just like a dream to him back then. But not for now. Seeing his game progress so far, it seemed that it was no longer impossible for him to achieve that.

"How much is the rent to live in such an apartment?" Trevor asked AI T again as he kept his focus on the street. Even though this car has an auto-pilot mode, he still wanted to drive it by himself. "Can I rent a penthouse instead?"

'You still need to work harder to buy a place like that, sir. Maybe later after you level up and collect more money,' AI T immediately replied. 'But I do have some suggestions of apartments that cost $10,000 to $30,000 per month. I am certain that would more than enough for you to live in temporarily with a cozy parking space to put your car in.'

"Please recommend it for me. I will take a look at it later."

Trevor suddenly turned off his car engine on a street corner. The man then switched on the navigator watch on his hand to look for some missions he could do around here. Several red dots appeared immediately on the map.

"There is a pickpocketing attempt, about 30 meters away from here."

Trevor unbuckled his seat belt. One more time, he pressed the button on the watch to change his appearance in an instant. The plain shirt and blue jeans on his body were replaced by all-black outfits. The black wolf mask was also automatically attached to his face.

'But it's a mission with a $10,000 reward which means it could get you hurt, sir. Are you sure you will accept it?' AI T asked hesitantly.

"I can. Thanks to my regular gym routine so far, I am already feeling stronger than before. I think I can handle this," Trevor said as he got out of the car. He then left his luxurious car there to run in the west direction directed by the map.

It was past seven in the evening, just a few minutes before sundown. There were so many people filling the streets after a busy day.

He, a strange human dressed in all black and a wolf mask scurried between them. No wonder many passersby were quite interested in his presence. Some of them even laughed at him.

"What's wrong with that guy? Why is he running around in the middle of town in stupid clothes like that?" asked one of the teenage girls to her two friends.

"I bet it's his work clothes." The other laughs. "Maybe he is a clown at an amusement park or something."

"Maybe he lost a bet," said another.

"But he looks really funny. Wait, Let me record and upload it to my social media."

In unison, they took out their cell phones and recorded the mysterious man. Trevor did not care about any of that at all. Saving the subject of his mission before the golden time passed was the only thing on his mind.

'Here!' said AI T.

Trevor stopped as he hit the red dot on the navigation watch. His eyes keenly scanned his surroundings, before stopping at a bunch of Asians crossing the street while chatting and taking pictures. Just by looking from afar, Trevor assumed that they were a group of tourists.

Trevor noticed that there were about two men following them from behind. The men seemed to be sending some signal to each other before one of them stealthily unzipped their target's backpack.

"Hey, watch out! There are a thieves!"

Trevor shouted as he ran towards them. Everyone looked surprised, especially the Asian tourists. Meanwhile, one of the thieves who had pocketed the stolen wallet ran away instantly.

"They got your wallet!" Trevor stopped in front of the victim who was still confused. His hand grabbed one of the disguised culprits among the other pedestrians. "Call the police to arrest this guy. He is with them-- argh!"

He was pounded by the thief as he tried to escape. Luckily, his grip was strong enough.

"Hold him till the cops come, man. I will catch the accomplice," Trevor said as he shoved the thief at a large man who happened to be watching. The man immediately held him, while Trevor ran towards the person who had fled.

Trevor ran fast in the direction the thief had gone. However, he was confused by so many people around there. That made it difficult for him to find the person he was looking for.

'There he is, sir. The man with the red hoodie,' his virtual assistant helped him at the right moment.

Without wasting any time, Trevor caught up with him before going further. He then grabbed the man's neck from behind.

"Give me back the wallet you stole!" he exclaimed.

The people there looked surprised by what happened. They reflexively evaded, give them space.

"What are you saying?" The man mustered up his strength. He tried to shake off Trevor who was clinging to his back. "Get off!" he screamed angrily.

"I said give me the wallet!"

"Let go of me!"

The bigger man suddenly elbowed him in the stomach. Trevor coughed in pain but he didn't give up there. He was still clinging to him even though the man kept attacking him.

"Fuck off!"

Trevor staggered. Worst, a fist flew to his cheek.

"Stop saying nonsense, Man. Which wallet do you mean?" said the man mockingly.

Trevor was still in pain, clutching his stomach. He got a pretty hard blow there.

'Sir, are you all right?' AI T sounded worried.

"You can't fool me. I can even see that wallet in your pocket. Come on, return it now before you regret it because the police will be here soon!" Trevor warned him again.

"Get it if you can."

The man tried to hit him aggressively again. He pounded the unprepared Trevor on his stomach, making him stumbble to the back. Trevor also tried to fight back, but his movements failed because the pickpocket threw another punch at his cheek, followed by an elbow to his back.

'Sir, are you okay?' AI-T immediately panicked seeing him fall to the ground.

'Yeah...' Trevor tried to get up again. 'Damn, I thought I was stronger from the exercise I did, but it turns out I am still as weak as ever.'

'Don't give up yet, sir. Get up!'

The people around seemed interested, but they didn't want to interfere. Some even shied away in fright.

"By the way, what's with this stupid mask? Are you playing fake superheroes or something? How ridiculous.'

The man grabbed his shirt and tried to open the mask forcefully. Trevor fought back. He tried with all his might to push the man away. He hit the jerk's cheek, hardly until his hand hurt. The man stepped back.

"Damn it." The bastard spat blood. "You're really testing m--"

At that moment, the sound of the police car siren was heard. The man looked panicked and planned to run away, but Trevor grabbed him by the neck again and tried to snatch the wallet from his pocket.

"Fuck off, dude!" the man grumbled while struggling. He even elbowed Trevor again many times in the stomach so that his grip was released, but Trevor tried very hard to survive.

"Give me the wallet," Trevor shouted as he managed to slip his hand into the man's hoodie pocket. As expected, it did have a leather wallet inside.

"Damn it!"

The man was getting more nervous because the police were getting closer. Not to mention the pedestrians, who were initially afraid of taking the wrong side, finally started to be suspicious of him. He was afraid those people would corner him until the police came.

"Fuck!"

"Argh!"

The man's last effort was to bang Trevor's body hard into the fence wall beside him. Trevor groaned in pain and released his grip. Luckily, the wallet was already in his hand. He fell to the ground while the man immediately fled from the police who finally arrived at the scene.

"He ran over there!" Trevor shouted at the officers who approached him.
