"We will now commence the star picking! " a loud voice had said in the speakers, informing all the people that have gathered around in the center of the city, mostly consisting of people wearing a uniform like outfit with green ribbon's tied around the collar.
Whispers could be heard around as they began to wonder who will be the lucky chosen one's this year.
*The star picking*
It is an event that happens every hundred years in the Kingdom of Oragon, it is to ensure that the kingdom stays safe from any dangers that are waiting to attack, hence why most children are given training after they reach a certain age, so they may be ready for future training if they were to be chosen, if not, they may choose the path of becoming a Knight and assisting the Kingdom, only those of the age of 16-19 are only allowed to participate.
The previous Guardian's take up the role as the mentor, training the newly chosen guardian's to be the best they can be, if not better than the previous guardian's, their sole duty is to make sure the newly appointed guardian's know their place, they are the protectors of the Kingdom.
Back to the ceremony in hand, the center of the city was decorated with the Kingdom's banner, the sole colors of the guardian's and star shaped lanterns.
Laurance had looked up at the decoration in awe as he took the scenery in, what he thought he could see in his imagination was standing right before his very eyes.
This world is set in a book that Laurance had written when he was younger, called "Not so ordinary hero. "
Laurance had written that book while he was stuck in the hospital because he was born sick, the only thing he did was read the books that his brother brings him during visits, the reason for Laurance writing the book was because he wanted to leave something behind before he died, so that he could be an inspiration to others that nothing was truly impossible.
So basically, Laurance knows everything that's going to happen, who will be chosen and any future events that will happen.
Laurance looked around and looked at the hopeful faces of the people, he stopped looking around when he spotted one of the main characters of the book, a serious looking girl was in the crowd, she had dark purple hair, sharp yellow colored eyes and tan looking skin, she seemed to stick out like a sore thumb because she carried herself with confidence, compared to those that were nervous or scared.
Her name's Elise CromWell, Laurance wrote her as a serious and strong character, despite her being egotistical, she truly wants to take up the role of guardian to protect the Kingdom, for that's what she devoted her life to, if she's to not be chosen, then what would her purpose in life be?
Laurance hesitantly walked up to her and smiled, "Hello there, I'm Laurance, Laurance Finnegan. " he said, extending his hand for her to take, the girl only glancing at his way before bringing her eyes back to the stage.
Laurance had added himself as a character into his book when he wrote it, and thought to just keep the self insert in during the time he was editing the final draft.
Laurance could only put his hand down and scratch the back of his neck in embarrassment, "... Elise... " she had managed to say before crossing her arms over her chest, at her response Laurance seemed to brighten up, "Hey there Elise! Are you excited for the star picking ceremony today? " Laurance had asked her with a big smile on his face.
Elise could only shrug.
Laurance could guess it was a accurate response coming from Elise since she wasn't the biggest socialite despite her role in the book.
Everyone in the City center flinched or screamed in surprise as they heard a large scream, only to look up and see a Phoenix flying in the air, that Phoenix was named Adastra, a mythical creature that's been with the guardians for a long time.
Everyone looked up at the creature in awe and admiration, having not seen the creature so up close before, then their attention was taken by the guardians appearing on the stage in a cloud of smoke.
As the first guardian Amaris appears, everyone began to cheer and scream at her, after all of the guardians are there, you could hear screams and songs of praise from everyone.
"SILENCE." One of the guardians, Falkor had shouted, enough for everyone who gathered to shut themselves up.
Everett smiled and came forward, "We appreciate that all of you have taken the time to join us today in the star picking, may the gods blessings be with you. " Everett finishes off his speech and bows to the crowd, in turn everyone bows to him and the other guardians as a sign of respect.
Everett stood tall and backed away, next was Amaris who came forward holding an old fashioned lantern in her hands, standing at the center, she closes her eyes and channels magic into the lantern, the other guardians behind her hold hands and close their eyes, channeling their magic into the lantern to begin the star picking.
A beacon of light bursts out of the lantern and shoots up into the sky, covering the sky in a bright light, once that happens everyone clasps their hands together and closes their eyes in a praying manner.
Laurance glances at Elise before he too puts his hands together and closes his eyes.
The reason as to why this ceremony is named star picking is because the stars symbolize being chosen and blessed by the heavenly beings above, it is a honor that only one may dream of..
Laurance opens his eyes and looks up once he hears the whispers of his name, knowing that is the sign that the heavenly beings have chosen you, his eyes being blinded by the light of the bright star.
His hands being brought up to catch the star in his hands and receive the blessings of the gods, once the star makes contact with his skin, it spreads a warm feeling to his skin, bringing the star close to his chest and letting his heart accept the blessing, leaving a faint glow on his chest.
"The new Guardians of Oragon have been chosen! "
