Bills, payments, debts, loans.
These are words Alina puke at inwardly whenever she goes inside the refuge of her own appartment.
For her, the contrast between herself outside this rotting sanctuary, to when she is within it could be said as astronomical.
Outside, she is the bright forward woman whom her coworkers and friends admire. While inside this claustrophobic quadrant, she is the sickly depressed walking clown whose only goal is to sleep and try her best to not listen to her boyfriend's mindless rants.
"Haaah"
Sighing in exhaustion, she takes off her heels with a goal in mind of immediately landing on her safety cushion, the bed.
Wobbly as ever, she controlled her steps, avoiding the pieces of dirty clothes and empty husks of junk foods scattered all around the floor.
And finally, after a tiring Parkour, she reached her bed and quickly threw herself onto it.
"Finally...some peace"
She mutters within the silent confines of her dilapidated unit.
Until she finally nestled her eyelids on the base of her eyes, hoping for a ceaseless sleep, ironically.
*Ring*
Her phone rang aloud within her previously noiseless home.
"What is it now? It's in the middle of the night for God's sake..."
She cursed in exasperation as she reaches out for her phone inside her purse that was placed on top of the end table.
Catching it, she quickly swiped up to answer the annoying midnight call.
"Hello?"
She asked in a tired voice.
"Alina.."
Hearing the voice from the other side, she jerkily got up to sit on her bed.
It was her boyfriend, Romeo.
"Rome, what is it? why call at this time of hour?"
The surprised girlfriend asked as nicely as possible, though her tiredness were still able to leak through nonetheless.
"You, you pick me up right now..."
-
"Right now? Where are you?"
-
"At, at the Westley skyway..."
-
"What?! Why are you there?! Wait let me go there!"
She hurriedly spoke as she gets up.
"Okay....I can do this..."
Standing up, she motivates herself first.
After the little pep talk, she took her purse and her car keys in a hurry, shutting the door close.
-----
Alina is now driving her black Mercedes-Benz A-class sedan along the lamp-lit road in the middle of the dark night.
There was barely any cars around, giving her a faster travel towards her boyfriend's destination.
"Babe, are you still there?"
-
"..."
-
"Romeo!"
-
"Oh! Hey! don't wake me up like that!"
-
"Haah....Rome, why did you even choose to get so drunk? You do know that you have a busy day tomorrow right?"
-
"Don't you lecture me... "
-
"Gosh, Rome your so drunk"
Tired from her boyfriend's antics, Alina could only sigh. She could only keep driving.
"Rome, don't hang up okay? I'm on my way there"
-
"Yeah yeah, just get here"
-
"..."
-
"Alina, do you..... do you want to know something?"
-
".... What is it babe?"
-
".... Samantha..she...."
-
"... Samantha? what about her?"
-
"Well.... she... she's pregnant"
-
"Oh? That is a good news!! She has been wishing for that since she got married! I'm happy for her"
-
".... well atleast your happy... but.. "
-
"hmm?"
-
"It's not Remus'.... "
-
".... What?!.. That.. that's impossible... no! If it is then Remy has the right to know! does he know? wait! does Sam even know?!"
-
"..."
-
"That.... that.. "
-
"Babe... don't tell me...sam knows, but Remus doesn't.... then how come you know?"
-
"..."
-
"Rome! Tell me! or else I will not be picking you up! I swear! you will stay there the whole night if you don't tell me what you know!"
Of course, when she said this, she was just kidding. She would never leave her beloved boyfriend out in the cold of the night. But at the same time, she could not help but be curious and anxious about what Romeo really knows.
".....It's..."
-
"What?!"
At this point, she had a ridiculous thought that flashed across her mind. But she soon discarded it as the thought was too outrageous to even think about.
However, at the same time, another part of her screamed otherwise. Making her feel extremely uncomfortable deep inside as seconds pass without Romeo responding to her.
And unfortunately, much to her several denials, it all came true.
"It's mine"
As soon as she heard the words everything stopped.
Her muscles, breathing, hearing, train of thoughts, everything became absolutely motionless in that abrupt millisecond of registering those words into her Amygdala.
A/N: The amygdala helps coordinate responses to things in your environment, especially those that trigger an emotional response. Just so you guys know. ----------
After a few seconds of silence, the sound of Romeo puking out everything he ate resounded out of her phone's speakerbox.
With bloodshot eyes, she glances towards the name of the phone call saying 'Romey Babe', without ever glancing at the road ahead.
Soon afterwards, she opened her mouth to say something for Romeo.
"Assho-"
But before she could even word the last syllable completely, a bright light covered her right side angle, from towards the windshield.
And in a flash of a second, a loud sound of metal colliding with something huge reverberated throughout Alina's ears. Accompanying this was the sound of rubber wheels desperately trying to counteract against the friction of the pavement.
With everything slowing down for better view, it is seen that she is desperately trying to look towards the truck, but much to her misfortune, it was all too late.
Entering back to real-time, a powerful impact of force pulled her head forwards, towards the steering wheel.
Yet at the seemingly desperate turn of events, an inflatable ballooned out of the wheel's backside, covering her head from the impact.
But as if death was only against her being alive, another movement of the car induced by it ramming against the huge truck, created enough inertia for her to be pulled slightly upwards this time. Inclining her hurling trajectory to be changed towards the windshield this time.
Seeing all of this in an impossible slow-mo angle, there was only one way she was headed, either literally or figuratively.
And in a split second, everything turned black.
