Once they left, Kai let out a sigh. All he could do was hope Edgar would take the time to think about it.
Breaking the bleak silence, Rome begged as Kai went to his friends from around the couch. "Can't you speak with Evan? He said he has a safe place to take your wife." Rome couldn't bear the heartache of losing Kai or Victoria, so he was sure to remind him of his cousin's offer to help him.
"I'll think about it. In the meantime, I want a full list of everybody going to the college. I want to know who this new girl is that is around my wife," Kai said, though he was talking more to his father on that last part, yet Mr. Collin seemed to ignore him as he stood there thinking to himself.
"You mean Stella?" Ace answered, and Kai confirmed with a nod of his head.
"Mia already checked into it. Stella had a birth certificate, social security, parents, and siblings. She's not a vampiress if that is what you are thinking," Glenn verified since Mia is good at searching for information.
"Human or not, I don't care because I don't trust anyone, not even Nora. Until I can wake Darlene's brother, I need someone by my wife's side at the college," Kai exhorted.
"Mia said she'll go," Ivan replied on behalf of his wife.
Ace proclaimed. "Rose said she'll check around the college when she can."
"Only if she can. She needs to take care of the baby," Kai told him.
Vampiresses were never expected to work unless they wanted to, especially if they were mothers.
"Anyhow, what about the list?" Kai asked his dad again since he avoided answering him.
"It's at the university, but it's private information," Mr. Collin replied as he walked to sit at his desk.
"I don't care about these humans' privacy. After what your business partner did to my wife, I don't trust any of your human friends," Kai exclaimed.
"As long as you don't harm any human who works for me, then get it at the college." Mr. Collin gave his permission as he sat down.
He wasn't in the mood to deal with his unruly son tonight. Stress with everything going on is making his temples tense with the heavy pressure from the vamp headache he was getting at this point.
"As long as they don't try killing my wife. Where's Sean?" Kai mumbled before he asked as he was turning the doorknob to leave.
"He returned home to his wives after he dropped off your clan's offspring," Mr. Collin answered. "His Coven hasn't moved here yet, but he said he'll see you soon."
Kai nodded before he left out the door with his friends, which relieved Mr.Collin from putting up with one of his irrepressible tempers. Moreover, Mr. Collin was rather happy his son didn't argue with him about waking Vlad again. He couldn't wake his parents since his father gave him strict orders not to. So Kai was on his own to wake his grandfather.
Out in the corridor, Kai roamed down it with his friends as he heard Rome nag him again. "How about we call Evan? I have his number right here."
As he was about to pull out his phone, Kai tiredly replied. "Not tonight, Rome. I want to search a few more planets before I seek his help."
"But he said he can help you find Vlad," Rome needled.
Kai sighed. "He'll help me find our grandfather only if I help him with something, and I'm not in the mood to go on a wild chase for him to gain something out of it."
"Haven't you asked him about it?" Rome pressed, not giving up.
"No, and I don't plan on it." Kai curtly replied, but Rome wasn't taking a hint to drop it.
"I can't understand why you won't speak with him." Rome still pestered him behind his back.
With a heavier sigh, Kai stopped in his tread before he veered around, and faced Rome. "Evan doesn't want Vlad to be awakened, so he'll only help me find him for a price. Until I run out of options, then I'll turn to him," Kai explained, hoping he'd quit, but he knew Rome better than that.
"What about getting his help for Victoria?" Rome insisted. "Evan told us he had a place where she'll be safe."
"Yeah, he means on earth. You heard Edgar. He said I needed to get her off this planet. So that is what I intend to do," Kai clarified, and then he started to stride away.
"But..." Rome hung his mouth because Kai disappeared.
Since everyone parted ways, Jack traveled his shadow to the front of Sharlene's bedroom. As he held his fist up to knock on her door, she opened it, which he didn't expect.
"Is there something you need?" she eyed him strangely because he was only standing there with his fist still in the air.
He froze as his heartbeat boosted at the sight of her beauty. To him, she was always attractive, but ever since he started to develop feelings for her, something about her beauty sparkled brighter than a diamond star.
"Jack."
"Right, I wanted to check on you and the baby," he awkwardly chuckled, snapping awake as he lowered his hand.
"As you can see, we are good," Sharlene replied, rubbing her round belly. "Anyways, I'll catch you later."
After she closed her bedroom door, Jack trapped her at the doorframe with his outstretched arm so she couldn't pass him. "How long are you going to keep this up?"
"Keep what up?" Sharlene played dumb like she didn't know what he was talking about.
"After you found out I loved you, you've been avoiding me." Jack reminded her.
Since that very day, he hadn't fallen under Savannah's seductive spell, Sharlene hasn't been acting the same towards him.
"Let's not do this tonight." Sharlene sighed.
"Tell me why?" Jack demanded. "You know I love you, yet you won't give us a chance. You carry my mark and my offspring."
"Because I don't trust unfated love!" Sharlene blurted. "Look at what Savannah did to my sister's marriage. They weren't destined mates, but she and Finn fell in love, got married, and had a family. Now look at them! Eva is brokenhearted because Finn fell to Savannah's spell. His love for my sister wasn't strong enough to defeat Savannah's trance."
From the deepest part of his heart, Jack sincerely promised. "I won't hurt you like your ex-boyfriend. I'll wait for you. Destined mates or not, I marked you with the sacred mark. I will never move on because I know it will hurt you."
Tears seared her eyelids, but despite the burning sensation, Sharlene gathered her strength not to weep. "It's not fair to ask that of you when we never had plans to be together until Rex caused this predicament between us. Move on if you desire. Don't let me get in the way of your happiness," she declared, making Jack grim.
