With a stoic expression, Kai and Sean roamed the remains of the torrefied battlefield for over two hours. Unlike the vampires who hadn't been asleep for as long as him, Kai remembered the wars as if they occurred yesterday. Because he slept so long, he never saw the grace period that other vampires had lived in, at some point after the Second War ended. Even if Covens solely battled, their battles were only between them and their allies if they joined them, like how he and his family defeated Darlene's Coven and many others after the Second War. Not a single Coven battle will ever compare to the worldwide wars most of them had grown up in.
"What happened to the Vampire Covenant on this planet?" Kai gritted his fangs. "I thought it was their job to stop this!"
Sean explained. "Not long after they had cast their votes for the fate of your wife's life, they were overthrown because Victoria got over sixty percent of her votes, which deemed her as not a threat, so a rebellion happened here to affect her votes on different planets. After every Vampire Covenant finds out about the planet's destruction, they could call a meeting for your wife's execution because I very much doubt they'll let her live once they learn about what transpired here."
Kai questioned his friend, having a roughness to his tone of voice. "Where are the Covens that destroyed this planet?"
"On Earth. Hiding in plain sight as they await your wife's votes. If she gets her votes, they will create a calamity for mayhem. Earth will burn no differently than what you see here," Sean replied, and Kai quickly zipped by his shoulder as he outstretched his hand to open the portal again.
Where they left their clans nervously awaiting their return, they came out of the portal. Once Kai closed it, he vanished with Sean, leaving everyone else behind without an explanation.
Out in a more public area, Kai scanned the brick wall that had countless pictures of missing people posted along it. Unlike the last time he discovered this area, it wasn't as full. Now, looking at it today, the wall had four times as many missing people on it from a month ago. Between infants and toddlers, they had the biggest increase over the men and women or adolescents.
Kai already figured it meant vampires were likely kidnapping human babies to repopulate the worlds like they had done on some of those planets after the first two wars transpired throughout these hidden dimensional planets, or it meant, they were ensuring there was a reliable food source for their Covens.
Vampires would kidnap the youngest ones to grow them up, breed them, and eventually eat them and their children.
Whichever the case, it is illegal either way you look at it.
Just for the fun of it, during the first war, Kai had built himself a blood bank farm in his younger days, and he bred humans, ate them, experimented on them, and strengthened his gifts on them, which was torturous for those humans. But to his discouragement, blood farms were deemed illegal, even way before the Vampire Covenant existed, so once his family found out about it, they killed his fun. However, he recalled Grandpa Vlad thought it was a genius idea at the time. Nevertheless, he was still punished for it.
"This isn't a Third World War. It's a rebellion," Kai snarled at the thought of his new theory. "Whoever they are, their making sure she doesn't get her votes!"
"Most Covens might not see it as a rebellion because they'll see it as a Third Vampiric War. They'll believe that unless she's dead, then it will stop the chaos." Sean tried telling him.
"How many worlds have fallen so far?' Kai faced Sean as his eyes narrowed at his dearest friend.
"I only found four planets that had been destroyed because they voted that your wife wasn't a threat. For now, I don't think any of the Vampire Covenants throughout these worlds are aware of it just yet. Which should spare us some time," Sean answered earnestly since what he revealed was the truth.
"I have no more time." Kai sighed as he kept a lucid mindset and temper.
This wasn't Sean's fault, so he did whatever he could to manage his vexation. Before he could speak, Kai heard a distress call from his offspring.
"Victoria!" He leaped to the nearest rooftop from on top of this business building.
"What's wrong?" Sean joined him on the roof as he searched for what was going on, but he didn't see anything other than bypassing vehicles that drove along the roads.
"My offspring are scared, and I don't understand why," Kai replied as he checked his phone. He knew she should be at Nora's.
"Is it another vampire?" Sean questioned.
"Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to be," Kai answered, hushing his little ones from afar.
After summoning their clans, they went to the college. Almost immediately, Kai found Victoria's scent. Along with hers was another man, who he smelled on his father a few times.
"Does your wife have any human enemies?" Sean asked as he was tracking her unfamiliar scent, and the man who took her.
"Not that I was aware of," Kai replied before he took in a bigger sniff.
Like replaying a video, Kai saw his wife was taken by a man who worked for his father's business partner. After they followed their scent on a sidewalk that was between two buildings, Kai clenched his fists into a tight ball when they reached a back parking lot. Like a motion picture to his nose and eyes, he saw the man put his unconscious wife into the back of the trunk of a snazzy black sports car.
"How could this get past any of my guardians? It was a human, for crying out loud!" Kai growled, snapping at his clan.
"Relax, Kai, you know this isn't anyone's fault. This man worked for Mr. Whitlock. How could anybody know your dad's business partner would kidnap her?" Ivan defended as he pointed this out to him.
Kai snorted steam through his nose as his chest briefly heaved with aggravation.
As he started to cool down, Rome also added. "You only have eighty-six members in your clan. If you don't count the offspring and the vampiresses, you only have about forty available guardians to watch over her. Less than that when we travel to other worlds. And don't forget, they need breaks to feed."
Kai sighed since he knew Ivan and Rome were right. "I apologize for my temper."
"I'll take everyone's offspring back to your father's mansion. This way, you all can go after your wife. I'll inform your father about the situation," Sean offered, and Kai was more than grateful for that.
"We need to go now," Kai ordered, and then they all took off on the double since they trusted Sean with their young vampires and vampiresses.
