Ezra returned to his apartment. It's not very bad compared to the Dumas family home. It's smaller and the entire apartment is the size of the bathroom, but it is a lot more comfortable compared to that place.
He goes to the kitchen to prepare some dinner. The leftovers would be turned into tomorrow's breakfast.
He looks around to see what he has. Some instant noodles, chicken thighs, lemonade, two eggs, some bread, half a pack of frozen fruits and vegetables, butter, there should be some spaghetti in the cabinet, some jarred tomato sauce, canned whipped cream, and some milk?
He takes out the milk and opens it to smell it. It smelled sour. He sighed as he went to pour it into the drain.
"What a waste," he said. Half the gallon was left in that bottle. What a waste indeed.
It seems his option for tonight is going to be spaghetti and chicken tonight and tomorrow.
He ate dinner and did some unfinished assignments. He received a text on his phone and he froze. He took his phone and prayed that it wasn't a text from Mr. Dumas.
He saw it was from an unknown number. "Who's this?" he said clicking on the message.
Hey, Ezra, it's Arthur.
Ezra's face immediately brightened, smiling brightly.
Hey Arthur. He replies almost immediately.
On Arthur's side...
Once Arthur had gone home, he realized he had forgotten to collect Ezra's number, so he went to his younger sister's room to find out if she had it.
"You want Ezra's number?" Candice said looking amused.
"Is there a problem with that?" Arthur said, coldly looking at her.
Candice laughed a bit and raised her hands defensively. "Oh, you're so cold now that Ezra's not here," she said.
Arthur was getting impatient and she could see it. She wishes she could continue to get him angry, but Arthur might do something she wouldn't like.
"Yes, I have Ezra's number," she said. "I'll text it to you later."
Arthur didn't say or do anything but Candice felt a bit pressured. "Just give me a minute," she said going back to her room.
Arthur stood in front of her door for about five minutes before Candice came back out holding her phone and showing him that she had sent it.
"There I've sent it," Candice said.
Arthur wasn't with his phone at the moment, he just nodded and left.
Once he was gone, Candice sighed in relief, she couldn't help but pity Ezra a bit. Such a sweet innocent lamb is liked by a wolf.
Arthur went to his room and texted the number sent to him. If the number wasn't correct, Candice would regret it. Almost immediately he received a response.
He smiled happily. She didn't send the wrong number. He received another text from Ezra. How did you get my number??
Arthur decided to call him. Ezra picked up the phone almost immediately. "Hello?" He heard Ezra say softly.
"Have you eaten?" He said out of impulse. Then smacked himself mentally. Seriously that's the first thing he had to ask? 'Have you eaten'?
"Yes, I have," Ezra replied. "Have you?"
"No, not yet," Arthur replies.
The other side was quiet for a while. "So how did you get my number? I don't remember giving it to you," Ezra said in a curious voice.
"I collected it from Candice," Arthur replies.
"Oh," Ezra said.
It was quiet between them for a long time and it soon became awkward. "Anyway, bye," Arthur said.
"Bye," Ezra replies, and the call is hung up.
Arthur looked at his phone in a daze as he sighed, covering his face in embarrassment. "I want to see Ezra," he said.
On Ezra's side...
Ezra's heart was beating fast. 'No, Ezra,' he scolded himself. 'You are lucky to have a friend like Arthur, don't mess this up!'
Mr. Dumas didn't do or say anything about him being close to Arthur, it was obvious that he didn't like him contaminating his son with his presence yesterday. He also wouldn't be happy that his son is attending a school that is not the best in the country.
He must have his reasons for not contacting him and he's happy for that.
