Chapter 54 - Inner Demons

Miss Gia Hologram started to explain the mental fortitude test to Ahiro.

"Your mental fortitude is the cornerstone of your abilities as an awakened individual," she began, her voice steady and measured. "It is the strength of your mind, your ability to remain calm and focused under extreme pressure, and your capacity to adapt to challenging situations."

She paused, letting her words sink in "In the world beyond these academy walls, you will face countless challenges, some of which will be life-threatening. The ability to maintain your composure and adapt swiftly can mean the difference between survival and defeat."

A sense of gravity hung in the air as Miss Gia continued. "This test is designed to assess your mental fortitude. You will be placed in a simulated scenario, presenting its own set of challenges. Your reactions, decision-making, and overall adaptability will be closely monitored."

Miss Gia's image shifted, displaying a holographic interface before her. "You will encounter scenarios that challenge your deepest fears, force you to confront your past and test your ability to think on your feet. Remember, it is not about the outcome but about how you handle the situation."

She glanced at Ahiro with a penetrating gaze, her eyes conveying a sense of expectation. "Mental fortitude cannot be measured through physical strength alone. It's about your willpower, your ability to remain undeterred by fear or discomfort, and your capacity to adapt and overcome your own Inner Demons."

Ahiro nodded, absorbing her words.

Miss Gia concluded her explanation with a note of encouragement. "Remember, this assessment is an opportunity for you to understand your own mental fortitude better. It's a chance to identify areas where you can improve and develop your inner strength. Ok, now Do you consent to proceed."

Ahiro felt a sense of determination wash over him as he said "I consent."

As the room gradually dimmed, Ahiro received instructions to find a comfortable seated position on the ground. He complied, following the guidance and closing his eyes. The room was now enveloped in complete darkness, as a sense of mild dizziness overcame Ahiro.

As Ahiro opened his eyes he found himself back in the halls of the orphanage, the unsettling darkness enveloped him. He had no idea how he had been transported there, and the disorienting experience heightened his confusion. The rustling of leaves nearby caught his attention, and when he turned, his heart sank.

Standing before him was one of the trio that had attacked the orphanage—the same man who had better him to deathbed. A shiver ran down Ahiro's spine as he came face to face with his deepest fears.

The burly man wasted no time. In an instant, he lunged toward Ahiro with astonishing speed, his massive fists aimed at his target. Ahiro's instincts kicked in, and he managed to sidestep the initial punch. But the attacker was relentless, his strikes coming fast and ferocious.

Ahiro tried to evade each blow, but the sheer force behind them made it difficult. He staggered and stumbled, his breath ragged as he desperately attempted to defend himself. The floor seemed to spin beneath him, disorienting him further.

Each punch and kick that landed on him was a painful reminder of his past trauma. Fear and confusion threatened to overwhelm him. He wanted to scream, to call for help, but no sound escaped his lips. It was as though he was trapped in a nightmarish silence.

Miss Gia, observing Ahiro's virtual experience, monitored his reactions closely. The simulation was designed to test his mental fortitude, to see how he would adapt and overcome the challenges presented.

Ahiro's heart raced as the onslaught continued, and he felt the weight of his past trauma bearing down on him. But deep within, a spark of determination flickered. He remembered that all of this was nothing but his past trauma and he had already faced and overcame it once.

Drawing strength from within, Ahiro began to focus. He concentrated on his training and manifested a golden barrier.

The burly man's punches still landed, but Ahiro was already behind the safety of the shield. His fear began to transform into resolve.

Ahiro pushed through the pain and confusion. He had decided to fight back against the attacker with newfound determination, ahiro shifted his focus to create a one-handed shield and in his other hand, he wielded a spear. The man was still relentless, but ahiro now braced for impact and found a perfect opportunity implaing the blurry man in the chest.

Miss Gia observed this transformation in Ahiro's responses and nodded in approval. This was precisely what she had hoped to witness—the manifestation of mental fortitude and the ability to adapt under pressure.

As the simulation continued, Ahiro's actions grew more confident. He fought back, refusing to be a victim any longer. The burly man's attacks became less frequent, and Ahiro's defenses held strong.

Ahiro had managed to land a solid blow on his assailant, causing him to stagger backward the view was virtual but simulated reality, he could see the blood flowing through the man's chest where he had impaled him, and he could see the pain the man was in. he was frightened by what he had done.

Suddenly Ahiro was enveloped in bright light and found himself back in the assessment room, his heart still racing, but now filled with a sense of dread. He had faced his deepest fears, in a nightmarish situation, and emerged as a winner but something felt wrong.

Miss Gia's holographic image reappeared, her expression reflecting approval. "Well done, Ahiro," she commended. "You've shown remarkable mental fortitude face of adversity. I will not say that killing is right nor would I say what you did was wrong. but you have to understand as an awakened you are bound to face threats much larger than this and more often than not thier will be blood in your hands so you have to mentally prepare for it."

Ahiro, panting but with a determined glint in his eye, nodded in response. This experience tested him in ways he couldn't have imagined, but it also revealed his growing strength. He knew that he could, and would, reach even greater heights. When faced with adversities that threatened his loved ones, he aspired to stand tall in front of them and provide protection to the ones who depended on him.
