Chapter 46 - First Day

Ahiro awoke early the next morning, a feeling of anticipation coursing through him. Today marked the beginning of his official education at Valorius Academy. He quickly dressed in the sleek uniform.  With his uniform neatly put on, he checked his appearance in the full-length mirror in his room.

After a quick breakfast, he made his way to the classroom. The classroom itself was a marvel of futuristic design, equipped with a 3D holographic whiteboard, smart desks, and full lighting and climate control.

As Ahiro entered the classroom, he saw that most of his fellow first-year students had already arrived. They were chatting, getting to know each other, and exploring the classroom's features.

Ahiro took his seat in one corner of the class, near a large window that provided a view of the academy's courtyard. His smart band automatically connected with the holographic interface of his desk. This HI served multiple purposes; it allowed students to take notes, and recordings of lectures, and this all can be easily accessed by HID in his dorm room.

Just as he settled into his seat, he saw Melvin walking towards him with a cheerful grin on his face. Ahiro smiled and gestured to the empty seat beside him.

Melvin enthusiastically spoke "Man what a comfortable dorm bed it was, I slept like a Dragon on his gold." hearing his joke both of them laughed. Being a Goldbell, Melvin must have already experienced futuristic features and luxury before coming here, unlike Ahiro who didn't have even a portion of these comforts back at the orphanage.

Ahiro nodded while laughing "It sure is comfortable. This was my first time sleeping in such a bed or sleeping in my own personal room."

Melvin could guess the conditions he lived in, instead, he cheered up ahiro by saying "Ahiro, this is just the tip of the iceberg, if you become a successful awakened you know all the luxury that you see in this academy would feel too little."

Ahiro understood Melvin's goodwill and smiled " I know and I will achieve it, But who is this behind you."

He had just noticed that behind the round-shaped boy, there was a girl hiding.

Melvin turned around and pulled the girl forward, this sudden movement caused her to jump in fright as she tried to hide her face behind her hands.

"Oh she is my childhood friend, Emily, remember she was in our group yesterday, she is quite shy but is very powerful on her own," Melvin said with a proud smile on his face. Ahio looked at the brown-haired girl, who now was again hiding behind Melvin, too shy to face Ahiro.

Melvin took a seat beside Ahiro and Emily took a seat beside Melvin. The students were now settled and ready at thier respective seats and waited for class to start.

As soon as the hand of clock hit 9 the door opened and the teacher stepped inside, wearing a modest-looking shirt and pants he carried a tablet, which he placed on the podium, which activated the whiteboard.

"Good morning, class. I hope you're all excited to start your journey here at Valorius Academy. My name is Savant Miler, and I'll be your homeroom teacher as well as your instructor for General Studies." the teacher introduced himself. The room was large but the sound was amplified seamlessly through speakers spread throughout the room thus every student could hear him clearly.

"Now, I know that some of you might underestimate the importance of General Studies, especially when compared to other compulsory subjects like Awakened Training or Physical Training. However, I'm here to tell you that every subject at this academy has its significance." Mr. Savant spoke in a serious tone.

Teacher Savant continued. "In the first half hour of our class, I will make important announcements and relay information that you need to know for the day if any and after that your class will continue."

"But I also want to stress something very crucial" He looked around, his voice increased in pitch and continued  "Failing General Studies is not an option if you intend to progress to the next year. There are no retakes allowed for finals in this subject."

The teacher took a lighter tone and continued "Now, I don't want to discourage you; I want to motivate you. General Studies is compulsory so you have a well-rounded education."

He paused for a moment before concluding with a reassuring smile.

The lecture continued, and the subject at hand was language and grammar. It was a relatively basic topic, one that many of the students had already studied in some form or another. As a result, it didn't take long for a noticeable shift in the classroom's atmosphere. A sense of disinterest began to permeate, with some students openly displaying their waning attention.

One such case was Melvin, who sat with his eyes open but was clearly deep in the embrace of sleep. His head occasionally bobbed forward, only to jerk back up as he fought to stay awake.

On the contrary, Ahiro was focused. While the subject might have seemed elementary to some, Ahiro was paying close attention and diligently taking notes. It was true that he lacked a focused education as the school he attended was a simple government school meant for Orphanage kids which only taught him the basic of the basics in any subject.

By the age of nine, he had already completed all the subjects that would have normally taught to students of age 15. Thus after that, the school became obsolete for him and he left the school at the age of ten when was granted permission to pursue a part-time job, by the orphanage caretaker.

As the lecture continued, Ahiro's fingers moved swiftly across the screen taking notes. While various videos and notes were pre-available online for the subject he always liked to take his own notes.

As the lecture concluded, Mr. Savant's voice rose in volume, cutting through the sleepy atmosphere of the classroom. His gaze settled on Melvin, who was still deeply engrossed in his slumber.

With a sly smile playing on his lips, Mr. Savant swiftly unscrewed the cap from his pen and, with a skilled flick of his wrist, sent it hurtling through the air toward Melvin.

Ahiro couldn't help but be impressed by Melvin's unconscious reflexes as he caught the cap.

He addressed Melvin directly, his tone carrying a hint of sternness. "You aren't allowed to sleep in my class, Mr. Goldbell," he declared firmly before exiting the classroom.

Melvin, still in a state of shock from the unexpected incident, turned to Ahiro for clarification.

Ahiro, couldn't help but chuckle. "You earned it," he replied with a playful grin. Emily, who had been sitting nearby, chimed in with a nod of agreement.

Melvin was still shocked and puzzled by the whole scene still not realizing what he had done, at this point even shy Emily was laughing.
