Chapter 48 - Electives

Ahiro and Melvin exchanged a quick nod and smile before going their separate ways to attend their respective elective classes.

Ahiro made his way to a large, traditional dojo-like building designated for Weapon Combat Tactics. The building itself was quite different from the sleek, futuristic structures he had seen everywhere in the academy. Its design was more in line with traditional martial arts dojos, with wooden beams and paper-covered windows. Ahiro was slightly taken aback by the contrast but stepped inside with curiosity.

Within the dojo, he found several students examining weapons made from wood. Ahiro watched as some of the students tested the balance and weight of the wooden weapons, while others discussed their preferences with classmates.

As the teacher entered the room, the students fell into a hushed silence. Even those who had been examining the wooden weapons quickly put them back in their positions and lined up in a disciplined manner. The atmosphere in the room became solemn as they awaited the teacher's instructions.

Master Ruchi stood before them with his eyes closed, an air of calmness surrounding him. After a moment, he began to speak, his voice firm and resonant, "I am this dojo's master, and you may refer to me as Master Ruchi." His words carried weight, and his presence commanded respect. Despite his age, his muscular physique was evident even under the loose kimono robe he wore.

With a graceful motion, Master Ruchi sat down in a Seiza position, legs folded beneath him. He gestured for the students to do the same, and they followed suit, sitting down in an orderly fashion.

Master Ruchi continued, "Once a week, I will provide you with guidance. The following week, I will assess your progress. Only those who show sufficient improvement will receive further guidance. As for your other classes, consider them opportunities for practice. You can train here with your fellow students, including those who will join you in the coming classes."

The students listened intently to their teacher's instructions. There were a total of 20 students in the class, each eager to begin their training under Master Ruchi's guidance. Some wore expressions of determination, while others appeared slightly nervous, unsure of what lay ahead in their Weapon Combat Tactics class.

Master Ruchi, seated in the Seiza position, began to expound on his teaching approach, breaking it down into multiple dialogues.

He said, "Once a week, I will dedicate my time to providing you with guidance. During these sessions, I will impart techniques, strategies, and knowledge that are essential for mastering the art of combat." His voice carried the weight of experience as he spoke, and his students listened with rapt attention.

Master Ruchi continued, "The following week, it will be your chance to demonstrate what you've learned. I will assess your progress, looking not only for physical prowess but also for your understanding of the principles we discuss. It is essential that you show dedication and effort during these training sessions."

He paused, allowing his words to sink in, and then added, "Only those who consistently demonstrate improvement, discipline, and a commitment to honing their skills will receive further guidance. Remember, becoming a proficient combatant requires not only physical prowess but also mental acuity and a deep understanding of strategy."

Master Ruchi shifted slightly in his seated position, fixing his gaze on his students. "As for your other classes," he continued, "view them as opportunities to practice and refine what you learn here. You can train with your seniors, who will join you in the coming classes."

Master Ruchi let a moment of silence hang in the air, allowing the students to absorb the information he had provided. His stern gaze moved across the room before he continued, "Now, the first step in your journey is to select your weapon."

He raised his hand, gesturing to the array of wooden weapons neatly arranged nearby, which included wooden swords, staves, spears, and various other training tools. "Your choice of weapon is one of the most critical decisions you'll make as a combatant. It's an extension of yourself, and it should complement your abilities."

Master Ruchi then stressed the importance of their weapon selection. "I want each of you to demonstrate your powers, abilities, and fighting style with your weapon of choice. Afterward, I will assess whether it suits your strengths and recommend changes if necessary."

He paused, his eyes scanning the room as anticipation filled the air. "Remember, your weapon is not just a tool; it is a reflection of you, make your choice wisely."

One by one, students stepped forward, making their choices and showing their skills.

The most commonly selected weapon among the students was undoubtedly the sword,  as each student proceeded to demonstrate their swordsmanship skills, combining them with their awakened abilities. Ahiro was intrigued and impressed by the wide range of abilities he witnessed. Some students could cover thier swords in flames, some summoned gusts of wind. The diversity of talents on display was astonishing. One of the students picked up multiple daggers and controlled them using telekinesis and one of the most impressive was a guy who picked up an ax and with his increased strength winged it like a stick.

many of the sword selectors were already shot down by Master Ruchi saying it didn't fit them and were given some other weapons.

Soon it was the chance of June, one of the twins. She also chose a sword, causing mumbling between students. With an elegance that belied her age, June swung the sword in graceful arcs, displaying exceptional swordsmanship. But it wasn't just her sword skills that captivated everyone; as she swung, the air around her turned frigid, and she conjured blades of ice that followed her every move. Her performance was a breathtaking fusion of swordplay and awakened powers.

Master Ruchi watched June's display closely, his usually stern expression shifting subtly. When she finished, he nodded appreciatively. "Well done, June. You are fit to wield the sword, keep practicing."

June blushed at the praise but retained her composure, a determined look in her eyes as she took her position.

The other students continued to showcase their skills and abilities, each bringing their unique talents and weapon choices to the forefront. Master Ruchi observed their performances, offering occasional guidance and feedback.

Ahiro finally stepped forward to make his weapon choice, his decision already clear: he had selected a spear.

Taking a deep breath, Ahiro began demonstrating his spear techniques. He lunged forward, slashing and stabbing the air with the spear's tip, showing his skills

Concentrating he activated his powers, he formed a golden shield in one hand while wielding the spear in the other. he showcased a combination of offense and defense as he used the spear to both attack and parry imaginary opponents.

Master Ruchi observed Ahiro's performance, his expression remaining stern and critical. Ahiro's skills, while competent, did not impress the master as much as some of the other students' displays.

Master Ruchi finally spoke, his tone matter-of-fact. "Your choice of weapon is acceptable, Ahiro."

Ahiro nodded in agreement with Master Ruchi's wisdom, then returned to his seat.
