Chapter 28 - Part II Chapter 25: End of a Reign

Unla and I calmly stared at each other, or rather, I stared at him calmly. Unla, however, had that infuriating smirk as he chuckled," You seem stronger. But now, as I stated, this shall be our battle to the death."

Speaking up quietly, I asked," What is the point of all this?"

Unla shrugged," I have no idea; honestly, I am just gunning for you because our kinds are enemies. Other than that, well, I have no idea."

Looking down at the battlefield to see Inferno fighting the equilibrium Ersaicean and holding his own, I questioned," Who is that other Ersaicean?"

Unla laughed manically," My older brother!"

I gulped nervously in fear as Unla looked at me seriously," Are you ready to die, Xyverinos."

I shook my head and answered," You will die, Unla."

In response to my retort, he sent several tendrils of darkness at me as I weave through them easily. I blasted him with spirit fire as he yowled with pain. When the flames disappeared, he had nasty burns. He slowly healed as Unla glared," I wasn't expecting you to injure me with that small amount of spirit fire."

Shrugging, I replied," You can thank Inferno for that."

He growled," How about we stop testing each other?"

Shrugging as I released a cyclone of flames around me, I nodded quietly," Very well."

Unla grinned," Good, you seem serious."

When he charged, I whispered," Spirit manipulation: barrier."

Unla fell into contact with the barrier as he cursed," What in the world?!"

Releasing wind blades from the next flap of my feathered four wings, the wind blades cut through the air and hit Unla in several spots as his eyes widened," Void wind?"

He noted the small, darker part of the wind coming at him as I nodded," Yes, that was void wind."

He shredded the barrier with one of his wings as he lunged at me. Then, covering myself in void lightning and using that energy to increase my speed further, I whipped by him, angling my tails to rip into him. Unla, however, saw that coming as he veered to the side. I looked at him as I circled him before going in for another pass. His shadows turned into those wings that gave me the scar I carry now as a reminder of our first talk. We both hovered as the roars, cries of pain, and the sound of the elements entered our ears.

Unla sighed in bliss," All those screams sound perfect to my ears. Well enough of that, let's end this."

With narrowed eyes, I breathed out, combining all my power as light orbs surrounded Unla instantly as he howled, causing the light spheres to fly away from him. Sighing with a very creative swearword," You flying pig-faced frog. I hate you even more."

Unla looked stunned as he suddenly glared at me." I am not a pig-faced frog."

Raising a brow, I retorted," Yes, you do; your face is scrunched up, and your body looks like a frog."

His eye twitched as I smiled internally, hoping to piss him off so he would make mistakes. As he glared at me," You do not want to piss me off, Xyverinos."

Shooting back harshly," Yeah, right, how about you stop messing around with me because it could end up with you dead."

Unla glared at me as the black shape that made his form flickered as tendrils of darkness lashed out at me again.

In retaliation, I blasted back with lightning, destroying his tendrils of darkness as I used the void lightning to increase my speed again, appearing in front of him as I cast a magic spell,' Increase strength.'

Slamming him with one of my wings, I sent him into the mountain below. When Unla impacted the rocks, it sent an explosion of rocks flying into the army of darkness—sighing in relief that my future sight worked perfectly. Unla roared out a challenge as he shot from the mountain before he slammed into me. He grappled me as he used his bigger size to give him the advantage.

He hissed now that he was in range," I win."

Snorting, I released my spirit fire, burning him as he growled in pain before throwing me into the same mountain. Then, just before impact, I used another spell,' Shield.'

I slammed into the mountain with more force than I calculated. My spell shattered as I groaned, shaking myself off as Unla appeared before me with his wing now supporting a giant blade. He growled," Any last words."

Smirking, I replied," Yeah, I win."

My eyes glowed as a spear of light appeared in my claws. Just as Unla's blade of darkness fell onto my shoulder, ripping through bone, ligaments, and muscles in a single strike, thankfully, it missed all my vitals. Somehow. In retaliation, I thrust the spear into his stomach. As he growled, the wound I gave him sizzled as I held back a yelp of pain, remembering Unla had given me a far worse injury. Breathing in, I released all the elements into him as the spirit flames blazed from within the spear.

Making eye contact with Unla," I win. But, unfortunately for you, you also missed all my vital points."

Unla's eyes widened in realization; he had underestimated and let his emotions get in the way."

He chuckled as he pulled himself away from my spear of light and, in a hoarse voice," You injected spirit fire through that spear of light; you also pissed me off, so I wasn't thinking clearly. Well done, Xyverinos, you are the first wyvern to kill someone of my caliber in eight hundred years. Though my brother is stronger than myself."

He collapsed and whispered," You were a worthy opponent, Xyverinos; I died a warrior's death by your claws. For that, thank you."

He shut his eyes one last time as I nearly collapsed but used my spirit fire to burn his body to ashes.

Looking at Unla's ashes now spiraling away," And you were a worthy opponent yourself; may you find peace."

I was breathing heavily as I felt the adrenaline fade from my system as the pain settled into where Unla ripped into my shoulder. I am thankful for the angelic wyvern's regeneration ability, even though I knew I would have a scar. I jumped into the air, albeit awkwardly, as I ignored the searing pain in my shoulder area. Flying towards Inferno, I stopped when I was above him. White flames in my mouth gathered as it grew into a fireball bigger than myself.

I released the giant ball of white flames at them. The spirit fire slammed into Inferno and Unla's brother, and I noticed the darkness waver slightly. Inferno and the Ersaicean separated as Unla's brother spoke up," Seems like my little brother was killed. Tell me, Angelic wyvern hatchling, did he fight well? I notice he injured you."

Nodding, I answered," He did; he was a worthy adversary."

The Ersaicean nodded in respect," I must congratulate you; my brother was nearly my strength before I reached ah, what you dragons and wyverns called equilibrium. Though now, if you wish to stop the dark side, you must kill my master and me. Now I think it's time to get rid of you all."

Inferno growled as he was silent during the exchange," We shall see about that."

Void flames surrounded him as the energy seemed to make the air shimmer. The Ersaicean flared his power, shattering it before thrusting a giant claw of darkness through Inferno's chest," You were indeed mighty Inferno of the Void Flames, but it seems your reign of power and respect has ended. You were the strongest opponent I have ever fought, but you are tired."

Inferno groaned before laughing," Thank you for the compliment; I could say the same to you. After so long of being the strongest being on the surface, I met my match, and I could die as a warrior."

Slyrak suddenly yelled," Father, no!"

Inferno looked at his youngest," You must live and free your older sister. Slyrak, I trust you will do what I have done. However, I am not dead yet. Another thing to help Xyverinos get out of here is that he is injured, and I can tell he is out of energy."

Inferno began to glow blue as Slyrak appeared at my side; he supported me as he cried for the first time since I met him nearly four months ago."

Slyrak spoke up after some time of flying in silence," What happened to Unla?"

I answered weakly from blood loss," I killed him, barely pulled it off, though."

Slyrak laughed hollowly," Yeah, that's obvious; I want you to promise me something, Xyverinos."

As he continued to support me as we flew towards my home, I sighed," What is it?"

He smiled sadly," I want you to promise me that no matter what, we will always be friends, and you will live until you die."

I answered," I will; I made a vow to my brother and myself to protect all those dear to me. I will continue to live and fight for you, you, Xisu, Shirlan, Chilthor, Graveonth, and my sister, Allit."

Slyrak laughed," Thank you, I needed that. Don't do anything stupid."

Snickering as I winced," No promises."

We continued to fly in silence.
