Chapter 14 - The Edge

"Come on, I'm not that bad riiight?"

"please shut up; we need to find shelter."

"We're not going to find a single thing in this place; we ran from midnight to dawn, and still nothing."

Lifting up rocks and fallen logs "yeah, you're right, there's not a single insect in this place or any animals."

"We should just walk north; I can sense demonic energy from there," he said, pointing north.

That sounds like a place we should not be heading to; if those things couldn't kill us before, then the demons will. "no! that sounds horrible; i'd rather lose another pinky than go there."

"Come on, stop being whiney. The Demonic Energy is barely there. By the time we reach the source, the demon will probably already be dead."

"why didn't you just start with that? north we go!" I said while swinging my hand in the air.

Speaking of that, I can't feel the pain from my pinky or shoulder anymore, and even though I've been exposed to the cold for so long, I haven't gotten frostbite yet. That's a good thing; at least I don't have to worry about dying from frostbite, and the cold is numbing the pain by a long shot.

When we first got to this place, there was nothing but a snowy field that was filled with dead trees. But now since we ran a long way, mountains are showing, which was off since if there were mountains in the first place, they should be showing.

"You're wondering too, huh? There's mountains here but not over at the cabin."

"this place just defies logic at this point."

"I think it's probably a magic field or something else entirely."

"aren't you supposed to be smart?"

"I might be smart, but that doesn't mean I can figure out this entire place in two days, Jesus."

"hey! you can't say that it's basically a slur for demons at this point."

"*Yawn* have you two found a new place ye-"

When gramps finally awoke, he opened his eyes in shock. "There are mountains..."

"You never seen mountains here before?"

"Not that I was aware of. Ten years in this place, and I have never gone this far out before."

"hey, at least you're awake, or else you would've been emergency food for us."

"You two wouldn't do that, right, hahaha?" He was now laughing nervously.

"I mean, you were asleep, so you wouldn't have felt much pain in the meantime."

"OH! Go-"

"Hey, I don't wanna hear that word!"

I regret my choices. Summoning a demon was the worst idea I ever had. "how long have we been walking? there's nothing but trees at this point."

"Oh, be patient. We're almost at the source of the Demonic Energy."

"Wait what? Demonic Energy... WHY ARE WE HEADING THERE?!"

"if we're not going to eat you, we at least have a demon to munch on."

"Bad idea if you eat one, you'll turn into one."

"it's better than dying."

"You're not wrong. So, what do you say, gramps? You want to eat some with us." He said with an evil smirk.

We were walking for hours until we finally stopped. Looking in front of us, there was nothing in front of us.

"so do we turn back or-"

"Odd, I can still sense the demonic energy from there."

Walking near the edge, I pulled my hand out of my pocket and stuck my hand out above the void. In front of us, the void was effortlessly changing; it was like a world was generating in front of us. But our amazement ended, and all that we got was more snow, trees, and mountains.
