Chapter 18 - no excuses

"You're one to talk atleast he saved me" Leslie said, lying down on her bed, she picked up her phone contemplating if she still needed to go to work, honestly she needed a day off from work but she didn't want that spiteful manager of hers to have any reason to get her fired.

Glancing at the time, she was really late but she didn't care about that now, what happened to her within a span of a day was what went through her mind,

The vibration of her phone caught her attention, glancing at it Jake's name flashed on the screen

"Hi Jake" Leslie waited but there was silence for a while, she was thankful she wasn't about to get another earful, "Hi?...where have you been, Ive been trying to call you but its not getting through, you haven't answered my text, and your mom was worried sick about..."

And just like that, her hope crashed to the ground. She didn't know what excuse to give him but she was not about to tell him the truth

"Are you even listening to me" Jake called when he didn't get a response, snapping Leslie out of her thoughts, "ohhh yeah I was, look I'm fine, my phone died and I just got it this morning. I've seen my mom and she's okay now, so you don't have to worry...uhhh bye see you at work" Leslie said cutting the call over Jake screaming at her not to end the call. She didn't have any excuse to give cause the lie she weaved so well to her mother won't work on Jake.

After a while of contemplating if she should go to work or not, she got up from her bed and decided to go, if she missed a day without her manager issuing it, that manager would raise fire even if she had a great reason, plus she didn't have an excuse.

Getting out of the outfit, she tossed the dress on the bed, taking a look at it she wondered how that guy got her perfect size, suddenly recalling that she left her clothes in the mansion, she had the urge to drag her hair. What was she thinking, she couldn't go back there or she could. Heaving a deep sigh she decided to just forget about the clothes.

Searching through her closet, she brought out a black Jean trouser with a white top, coupled with white sneakers. Putting them on and packing her hair up in a pony tail, she picked up her sling bag and left her room.

Walking down stairs she caught sight of her mom in front of the television watching a show with chips in her hands, "I'm on my way to work mom, take care of yourself" she said grabbing her mom's attention, "les I didn't make lunch, could you wait a sec" her mom said,

"It's fine mom, I'll get something to eat later" Leslie said as she closed the door behind her, she was glad her mom wasn't crying anymore.

Walking to the bus station, she didn't feel the need to rush, for some reason she wasn't afraid of what her manager would do, this time she was curious. Reaching the bus station, the bus arrived soon and she got in, swiped her card and took a seat

The bus soon arrived at her destination, she got off and walked into the company, going straight to her office, she didn't bother checking in on her boss.

She was about to take a sit "Leslie Anderson", speak of the devil Leslie thought as her manager walked up to her, standing straight she lowered her head in greeting "good day, Mrs Cassie" she greeted, "You think paying me respect will save you, I warned you but you decided to take it up a notch" her manager said, Leslie touched her head she was getting tired of all this yapping

"I'm sorry manager, it won't happen again" Leslie said, sounding so calm like she didn't care about the job, she just wanted peace, "I'm sure it won't" her manager said, with a straight face but the same couldn't be said for her thoughts 'finally I've got you in a corner, now no one would threaten my position' Leslie raised her eyebrows slightly, surprised with the thought, she never wanted her manager's position, but then if she got it she would deserve it

"You're going to answer a query for your action" 'in a matter of time, you'll be gone', Leslie almost laughed out at how her manager sounded like two different people, but she kept a calm expression "yes ma'am" Leslie lowered her head again

After giving her a long stare, her boss walked out the door, looking at her exiting figure she sat down on the chair, laughing.

Few minutes after she sits down on her chair Jake walked in, "the next time you don't knock, I will make sure your wrist is separate from your body" Leslie threatens, staring coldly at him, "as if you could risk hurting a fly, besides I did knock" Jake said walking to her desk

Leslie sat up on her chair "you didn't I'm sure of it this time, and it makes me wonder if you ever have" she said, dropping her hands on her desk, Jake laughed "what's your deal about knocking" Leslie eyed him "it's called good manners, and I'm trying to teach you since you didn't learn it. Why are you here?" Leslie asked

"To check on you and give you this" Jake said placing a file on her desk "you don't have to work on it today if you're not feeling up for it, I wonder why you didn't take the day off"

Leslie picked up the file, looking through it, another failed design for her to redesign, she wondered who was making these, looking up at Jake who was still staring down at her "Is that all?" She asked, raising her brows he looked like he had something else to say "you haven't told me happened to you..."

"Okay I guess you don't have anything else to tell me, you can leave Jake" Leslie interrupted pushing jake out of her office "see you later" she said waving at a surprised Jake "hey that wasn't..." she closed the door

"Phew...what a pain" she said walking to her sit to start working on the files she got.
