Chris was inside his office exploring his social media handle when he heard a knock on the door, and immediately he asked the person to come in. The knuckle of the door turned down, the door opened, and Daniel came in.
"Hey Daniel, how are you?" Chris asked while standing up from the chair.
"I'm fine, bro," Daniel replied while shaking Chris hand, after which he sat on the chair opposite Chris desk.
"So, Bro, today you brought your mom here with your girlfriend; there must surely be an occasion. What is it?" Chris inquired.
"There's no occasion, bro; it's just a simple outing, and a point of correction: the lady over there is not my girlfriend." Daniel informed Chris with a straight face.
"If she's not your girlfriend, then who is she?" Chris asked with an inquisitive tone.
"Well, she's the ex-girlfriend of Jerry who wants to become his girlfriend again." Daniel replied.
"What! Who does that? Chris asked in surprise. "And what about Catherine?" Chris inquired.
"They have broken up," Daniel replied, and Chris furrowed his brow in surprise.
"They've broken up, and why? Chris asked Daniel, but he remained silent.
"Wait, bro, don't tell me you had anything to do with their breakup," Chris asserted, but Daniel still remained silent, and immediately Chris became sure that his assertion was true.
Without saying anything else, Chris leaned back on his chair and heaved a sigh while shaking his head in disbelief.
"Hey, man, don't look at me like that; you are even supposed to be thanking me. At least now Catherine is free; you can try your luck on her." Daniel said this to Chris, who started nodding his head in agreement.
"You are right, bro, but that still doesn't change the fact that what you did is unforgivable." Chris said to Daniel
"You can say all you want, bro, but mind you, we are the same. Whether you like what I did or not, you are still going to go after her, especially now that she's no longer with Jerry, or are you going to report to Jerry?" Daniel inquired, but Chris remained silent.
"You see what I'm talking about, Bro, so instead of painting me the bad guy here, you should actually be thanking me for making the task easier for you." Daniel said to Chris
"Whatever Bro I'm not thanking you for anything because you didn't do what you did because of me; you did it for your own interest." Chris informed Daniel, who eyed him without saying anything.
"I think we should change the subject," Daniel said to Chris, who nodded in agreement.
"By the way, about my proposition to you the previous time, you haven't given me any feedback yet," Chris informed Daniel.
"Yes, bro, I wanted to discuss that too with you," Daniel informed Chris, who nodded in agreement.
They both discussed it for over forty-five minutes before Daniel decided to take his leave because he knew that his mom and Lucy would already be waiting for him.
When he came from the office, he returned to the place where his mother and Lucy were sitting, only to find Lucy, who was already half drunk if not for his mother's intervention, and also his mother, who wasn't happy to see him because of the time he spent in Chris' office, knowing that they were waiting for him.
Without wasting more time, they paid their bill and helped Lucy, who could hardly support her legs, out of the restaurant.
Before going home, Daniel went to a nearby store and bought some liquid milk, which Lucy gulped before regaining her full sense in order to be able to drive her car safely.
Afterwards, they each departed for their different destinations.
The weekend flew by very quickly, unlike other weekends, and just like a flash of light, it was already Monday, the beginning of the new week.
Jerry had spent the whole day with his father in the hospital, and because of that, he returned home tired the previous day.
The beeping sound coming from the little clock on the head of his bead kept on intensifying every second.
He wasn't willing to get up from the bed, but he had to because there was tons of work awaiting him in the office.
Without hesitating, he dragged himself up from the bed despite his weakness and started heading towards the bathroom.
After taking his bath, he wore his suit, went to the sitting room, and took his breakfast before heading to the garage where his car was parked.
Once he entered his car, he said his little prayer and zoomed off.
On his way, he decided to drop by Catherine's place to see if he would be able to pick her up even though they were quarreling, but to his greatest disappointment, when he arrived at her place, his mother informed him that she had left because she said she had things to take care of at the company.
Jerry, knowing the reason why she had left earlier, started heading towards the company too, but from the mother's reaction, Jerry easily detected that Catherine didn't discuss their breakup with her mother, and he kept wondering why she didn't.
In less than fifteen minutes, Jerry was already in the room.
When he entered his office, he decided to arrange some of the files on his table, and afterwards he would go to Catherine's office and see if he would be able to talk with her.
As he was arranging the files, he heard a knock on his door, and immediately he asked the person to come in.
Once the door busted open, Catherine came in with an envelope in her hand.
"Good morning, sir," Catherine greeted him, and immediately Jerry asked her to sit down, which she did.
Before Jerry would open his mouth to talk, Catherine handed the envelope to him, and immediately Jerry furrowed his brow while collecting the envelope.
"What is this, Catherine?" Jerry asked while opening the envelope.
"Sir, it's my resignation letter," Catherine informed Jerry while avoiding his gaze, and immediately Jerry widened his eyes in surprise.
"Come on, Catherine, tell me that you are joking," Jerry said to Catherine, but she remained silent.
Jerry stared at her for a few seconds before heaving a sigh.
"Catherine, I hope you are not resigning because of what happened to us," Jerry inquired, but Catherine still kept silent.
"Catherine, you know that I don't mix relationships with work?" Jerry asked Catherine, and she nodded in agreement.
"You are a good employee, and I can't afford to lose you because of our personal issues. So tell me what you want so that we can continue working together," Jerry informed Catherine, who remained silent for some seconds before replying.
"All I want is that the only relationship that will exist between the both of us will be that of a boss and employee, and nothing else. That means we won't be discussing anything concerning our past relationship anytime we are together." Catherine informed Jerry.
"Is that all you want?" Jerry asked Catherine after remaining silent for some seconds, and she nodded in agreement.
"OK, I agree," Jerry said to Catherine, and she nodded.
Afterwards, Jerry handed her an envelope accompanied by her resignation letter.
"This is the profile of a new client; you will meet him today around two PM; the venue of the meeting is in the file." Jerry informed Catherine.
"OK, sir, I will go over it," Catherine replied, and she started heading towards the exit door.
Once Catherine got to her office, she heaved a sigh of relief. She knew that she had just made one of the toughest decisions of her life, but she had to do it in order to safeguard her heart.
Without hesitating, she opened the envelope and brought out the file inside, but what she saw left her breathless.
The client she has an appointment with is Chris William, and the meeting was going to take place in his restaurant.
