Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Class ended for the day and students started to flood out of the classroom as their noise filled the air. Scarlet saw the boy stand also with his bag in his hand and he made his way out of the classroom. She had an instant urge to follow after him and catch up with him, but what would she probably say to him? She thought until Melanie's voice jerked her up.

"Scarlet, bye," she said and gave her a quick hug before dashing out of the classroom.

Scarlet knows she is going after him. She is just so obsessed about the boy while she is curious about him.

"So…" she heard Adam's voice again beside her and she moved her neck to see him standing, ready to leave. "Scarlet," he said her name.

"Yes Adam?" she asked and packed her books inside her bag before zipping it up.

"I uhm…I just want to say I met a wonderful person today and I wish to know her more," he said and Scarlet looked up at him, half-blushing. He smiled at her and said, "We should really talk again some other day we meet like this."

She set her lips wide and said, "Okay. I will see you another day then."

He tapped his finger on the table and said, "See you later," and he started to walk away.

Scarlet heaved out a sigh that seems to have laid heavy on her mind and she moved her eyes to where Johan sat, thinking he was watching her, but she soon realized she was wrong because he was not even there anymore and she looked around but could not find him anywhere. She rose up and hung her bag over her shoulder and she made her way past the students in the way and out of the classroom. Her legs moved down the hallway and past the orchestra class, even though she had stopped briefly to see if she would see 'him' there but it was empty and she felt a bit of disappointment.

Just as she took few steps to resume walking, she saw someone come to stand in her way and she looked up to see who it was. Her eyes blinked and her lips parted to speak,

"Oh hi," she said to the girl whose name Johan had mentioned to be Harper.

"Hey Scarlet," she said with a smile and looked around before placing her eyes back on hers. "I was just wondering if you know where Johan is. I haven't seen him after the class."

"Johan?" she repeated, "I haven't seen him either or spoken to him today."

"Oh, okay," she said but with a little disappointment.

Scarlet did not have any fault with her at all. At least, they do not know each other and this will be their first time having a conversation so she tries to be nice and she asked her, "Is there something you want to say to him? I can deliver your message since we live in the same neighborhood."

"Oh, you do?" she asked, sounding surprised.

Right! I bet he never told you that, Scarlet replied her in her mind.

"I don't have anything to say to him actually," she replied to her earlier question. "He left the class in such a hurry and he didn't say where he was going so it got me worried. Maybe something urgent came up at home. Anyway, I am Harper," she introduced. "I haven't gotten the chance to introduce myself to you."

Scarlet gave a smile. "You know my name already, Harper."

She let out a short laugh and said, "Okay, I have to go now. Bye."

"Yeah, bye," Scarlet bade her and watch her leave before she also went her way.

It took her fifteen minutes to get to her street after taking some shortcuts and she dragged her feet lazily while looking exhausted. She believes it must be the side effect of the medicines but she dares not complain to her mother or she will be given another day to rest at home, doing nothing.

As she got closer to her house, she saw a lone male figure standing in front of their yard and when he saw her, he pushed his body forward and started walking towards her.

"Hey," she said when they met at the middle, "Why are you here all by yourself?" she asked.

"I was waiting for you," came his reply.

He was waiting for me? So, he left school in a hurry just to wait for her in front of their yard? She thought. Of course, she knows what it is about even without asking and she still remembers how his expression changed when she entered the class with Adam.

"Oh, I see," she said and quickly added, "I'm sorry I couldn't see you in school yesterday when I said I would. My mom made me stay at home to rest," she explained.

Johan simply gave a slight nod and he seem to want to say something which he hesitated at first before finally giving in.

"The boy you walked in with during literature class…"

"Oh, you mean Adam? The friend you never told me you had?" She revealed to his face. "Are you that ashamed of him that you can't even say his name?"

She could see the guilt clearly written on his face and she scoffed silently.

"Seriously Johan, what is wrong with you? You never told me you had any friend and I can't help but feel I am the reason you left your friend or even a 's' at the back of it because you got busy with me. Do you know how guilty I felt? And then you even told him about our break up. That only shows how close you are to him but I feel hurt because you never mentioned him to me, not even for once," she voiced it all out and took in a sigh.

The skin on his forehead crumpled a bit and he said, "It's not how you think it is. I can't explain it to you but he is not someone I want to see you with."

Scarlet could not believe what he was telling her and she found it to be absurd but she could not bring herself to laugh at it.

"So I met a guy today who happens to be your friend and you tell me you don't want to see me with him. Are you like, deciding who I make friends or hang out with now? But it is okay when you make friends with someone else and even hug her right in front of your house. So you get to decide for me and I don't which doesn't even makes any sense. It is like you are now after what is going on in my life. You get to live freely while I get to depend on you to decide on how shady my life will become if I don't listen to you. Is that it?" she shook her head at him in disbelief and started to walk towards the door.

"And hey," she called and he looked at her from where he stood, "you should always say you are leaving before rushing out of class so you don't get the people that actually do care about you worried," she said and went inside, shutting the door behind her.
