It was just a simple party. "Well, sort of if that stage wasn't there." I said to myself. It's like a homecoming party. No, it's more like a prom to me.
The setting was so fabulous. I see fairy lights everywhere. The tables are arranged in such a way that people would be able to see what will be on the stage later. There is a space just in front of the stage for whatever reason. If I were in a better dress, I would feel like a princess waiting for my prince to dance with me. What kind of party is this?
"Why did you not tell me I will be attending the prom? I should have dressed appropriately." I whispered to Michael.
"Oh, come on, RM. You look so great and blend with this enchanting venue. You are the only girl here who can make others take a second look at you." Michael is always biased. I can see a lot of pretty girls here. Their figures were ravishing and their outfits were so gorgeous.
"Yeah, right." Hopefully, people won't take a second look because they are already judging me with how I look. I was so confident before I came here, but seeing all the guests and the way this place was set up, I feel like I don't belong here.
"So, where are your friendly friends?" I tried to divert my thoughts.
"Oh, yeah. They're backstage preparing some instruments. They'll play the band today."
"Cool. I don't expect to meet a bunch of rockers today." I laughed.
"You'll love them. I promise." He said.
"Just like I loved you?" I asked.
He kissed me and said with a cute wink, "Yes, but not as romantically as you loved me."
Michael pulled me and ran towards the backstage. I can't imagine myself running in a dress. I couldn't get over the fact that this place is so great, and I don't think I blend with it, just like Michael said. People at the party look like they were children of the rich and the famous. Why would I even care? I am with Michael and I don't know anyone in this place. I've never been friends with the sophisticated ones. I rolled my eyes all over the venue and did not notice that we are already backstage. It's time to meet Michael's folks. As I look at them, they seem nice. I hope they were.
"Guys!" Michael yelled and pulled me towards them. "I want you to meet, RM." I shyly smiled at them.
Michael introduced them one by one. They smiled as they were roll called. They are a group of happy guys. No wonder Michael is a jolly person. He is surrounded by friends who make him happy and positive all the time. How I wished I have peers like them. Michael said that they were the best of friends he ever had. He sounded so sincere, telling me that these people are genuine and accepted each other despite some differences.
"My brother's friend is a friend of ours. Welcome to the clique, RM." That was Nathan, Michael's older brother. He is also physically attractive like Michael. He seemed nice and gentle, but he also look mischievous. I watched him make practical jokes with the others. He's like an opposite of Michael who is more serious. He is more like the younger brother than the older one.
Michael put his arms around my shoulder.
"Excuse me, Nathan. She's not my friend." I looked at him. "She's my girlfriend." And he laughed.
Nathan seemed annoyed as Michael said that we were in a relationship. Perhaps he is not used to be being kidded by others because they already started laughing and teasing him.
"Sorry, RM. Nathan is a chick magnet, and he just couldn't believe that his baby brother has a girlfriend." And then there was Jay. He is more mature looking than the others. I only know his name for now.
Nathan looked at Jay in a teasing manner. "I just can't believe I'm looking at the most beautiful girl here tonight. Did you not notice? She is the only one standing out."
I blushed.
"Be careful, RM. Nathan can steal every woman's heart. He is just unlucky now that he won't be able to steal yours." Joseph, the last member of the band, said. He is a little reserved, I think.
They all laughed again.
I felt a little awkward because Nathan is deeply looking at me. It's like his eyes are speaking to me. Is that a normal thing to him? Maybe it is just me because, other than Michael, no one has ever complimented me before. Possibly, this kind of aura runs in their blood.
My head slightly ached. There was a little flash in my thoughts, but it went away when I shook my head. I am not sick or anything, but what was that?
"Don't listen to them, RM." Michael said. I finally went back to my normal state. Thanks to my savior. "They are just joking around. You haven't seen the worst that they can do when one is with a girl."
"Why? Did they do something to you before?" I asked. I can still see Nathan looking at me. Unconsciously, I think I am also giving him a few glimpses. Did I know this guy from before? That would be impossible.
"Let's just say that they will tell you a story, but don't believe any of them. It's just their way of finding out if you can get along with us," he explained. "Don't worry, I know you. You'll be alright."
The other three boys went back to set and polish the drums and guitars. I am thankful that I got Michael to myself again.
"Got it." I said. Then I whispered. "Don't worry, no one can steal me from you. I will never, ever allow that."
"How lucky am I?" He said and kissed my forehead. I love receiving simple kisses from him.
