The young boy would spend his time
daydreaming, hiding or sleeping, if luck was on his side. Once a month, his mother would go to the grocery store, then give him some slices of bread, an apple and water. She was doing her best, yet sadly it was still not enough... Her little boy would eat a small bite every few hours, eat the least he could just so he could have some the day after, and the day after and after… This was his life, a life so depressing and sad, no one could've just fathomed how terrified he was. Even his dad got sick of it, as one day he left for good.
It was not a special day in any case, just a normal day- well, for Yuri - as he was staying in his room, on a summer day so hot he could barely breath from the heat, and where standing up was too harsh and lying down too painful; The usual for him. In the morning, he had woken up from the sounds of the old man going upstairs. From this signal, he had suddenly gotten up and hid, he really did not want to see him. And just when the man opened the door, he was already hidden behind the old curtain full of mold. The little kid was small and very skinny, he was out of danger in this small yet safe area.
However, what the little boy did not know was that this very moment was the last he would see his father. For years, the house would stay free of any violences they were so used to struggling with, free of that demon who came and left like a curse, but not free of the damages taken in the process. Only the house would be freed, as his mind was still at war until a certain person came into his life…

"Well, aren't you going to talk about yourself?"
"I told you already, I'm an ex-army who just happened to meet your sister and her friend!"
"Lilianne, please blink if he's blackmailing you!"
"She just blinked. I saw her blink."
"Eli, stop lying"
"No need to call my name, Jay."
"Guys, he's telling the truth! He even showed us his 'infected' skills!"
"Ah yes, that's right, Yuri's not the only one…"
"Yuri…"
"Oh Sasha, I'm sure he's okay! You saw Edmund's talents too, right?"
"Yeah you're right. And how I thought I've changed."
"It's oka- HEY GUYS HE WOKE UP!"
The chaotic mess of their voices echoed through my pained ears and head, dizzying me and making me almost faint again. I couldn't fully open my eyes, though my heavy eyelids could lift a little. I felt so heavy, but light at the same time. It was a strange feeling, and honestly, I didn't know what was going on.
When I gained consciousness again, I couldn't move nor talk at all. It was like I was a corpse, yet I was alive. Also, I couldn't remember anything at all. My past, present, everything was but a shallow and worthless mess.
And then, as I was about to give up, I heard all of them. The bickering, arguing and yelling. Suddenly, I remembered everything. From when I first left my house, to this very moment. And I remembered the dream I had, the one which made my whole life different, aside from this world-apocalypse.
The very dream that showed me my companions, my dear friends I would later on follow and support. I didn't know, I couldn't know why, just why I was feeling so guilty and miserable my whole life? I had everything, a shelter that protected me from this vast world, a friend who supported me through everything, and the one that made me grow; My mother, the only person on earth who made me feel loved.
A motherly love.
