'I knew it, I'm in hell.'
The sentence crossed my mind as the elderly took the chance to spoil me.
We've arrived at Zero's place for quite a while, and I've never regretted anything else other than entering that door.
"You want....some candy, cute....baby?"
"You...idiot....he still hasn't grown.....his baby tooth. Get that away from him."
"Want...to play with....granny...little one?"
"Ohh...he....he's getting angry.....l-look...."
"Want me....to carry.....you? Not...that....I can though."
I tried calming myself, but with the sudden burst of old voices, I couldn't help myself but show my usual emotion when being bothered my large amounts of people.
My eyebrows furrowed, not enough to show my ugly side, but enough to show I was agitated.
I respected the elderly, but this was just too much for my head to handle.
Before things take a turn, I gave Morgana a glance and hoped she realize my intentions.
"Isn't this great, Bane?" She smiled wide as we got surrounded by elderly by each second.
'Morgana, let's leave, please.'
Doing my best impression of a crying puppy, I hoped to get away. Yet, Morgana showed no signs of moving.
'Look's like someone wants some attention.'
Just then, before I completely lose all sense of belief, a pair of hands suddenly pulled me away.
"Okay, that's enough elders, it's time to give this young boy some space, okay?"
My eyes immediately darted towards my savior.
"Can't you see the boy's getting overwhelmed, why don't we let him be for now." Zero continued.
'My....MY SAVIOR! THANK YOU!'
Zero gave a smile as he caught me looking at his face.
"Urgh....can't you....cut us some.....slack, doctor?"
"But....he's just...so cute....he reminds me of my grandson...."
"Well, if...that's what....the doctor says...then..."
"Awwww....."
With just Zero's convincing remarks, every single elderly gave up on spoiling me and returned to their respective rooms. Leaving only a few who only have minor injuries such as; Back pain, sore feet and stiff necks.
Only one's that can be healed with magic in a matte of seconds.
"Now...what are the two of you doing here, Morgana? And why did you bring Bane in this place?" Zero raised an eyebrows as he asked, putting me in a soft chair at his side.
"We...Well, Aunt Eve was gone for so long....and I just thought that....Bane would like a change of scenery for once....I think..."
Zero sighed and scratched his head. "And you thought bringing a baby to a place full of sick people is a good idea?"
One thing that changed about Zero's healing place was that it was also an orphanage so to speak.
Morgana twitched. "I...I'm sorry...It won't happen again...." She replied while looking down at her feet.
A few seconds of silence passed.
Zero took a deep breath and let out a long sigh. "Well, as long as you learned your lesson..." He patted Morgana's head. "...then that's good....luckily there aren't any ill person here today...just some elders with back aches I guess."
Zero laughed, and after hearing it, Morgana's composure returned to normal.
'I thought she was about to cry just then....'
"So...you said something about Eve being gone for so long? How long are we talking about?"
"Oh...OHH....we...well, it wasn't that long....maybe a few hours....two or three maybe?"
Zero placed a hand on his chin, his eyebrows furrowed in deep thought.
"Wh-Why is there something wrong?"
"No...it....it's nothing. It's nothing, I hope. Hmmm...." His mouth opens then closed the second after, then after a few seconds of silence. "Crane!!!" He called, then without wasting a moment, a man with a rough looking appearance appeared.
Though his whole body was covered with different colors of stain, he was mostly neat looking on the upper part of his body.
"Can you watch over these two for the time being? I need to go somewhere for awhile."
"You? Leaving? Why? DId something happe-"
I have no clue why he stopped talking, but based on how his appearance almost look like it shrunk, then Zero might probably be he reason.
"Just watch over these two for now, I won't be gone for long."
"We-Well if you say so, but who's going to take care of the patients?"
"Just let Vert do it for now, I'm sure he can do it. Ohh...and before I forgot...." Zero closed the distance, his mouth moved but not a sound can be heard, so I probably think that something was happening for them to be secretive like this.
Zero backed away. "If anything happens, you know what to do,"
Crane gave a firm look and nodded.
"Now, I'll be leaving, in the mean time listen to Crane...okay?" Zero gave off a wam smile before patting both my and Morgana''s head.
"O..Okay....but where are you going?"
Morgana asked, her childish curiosity dwelling upwards.
"Just some unfinish business...I'll be back soon, with lots of waffles."
"Waffles?!" Eyes sparkling, Morgana raised her pinky. "Promise?"
And Zero did as well.
"Promise."
And so, Zero left the establishment.
Hours passed and night began to descend to the world. Crane specifically us to a room in the attic where a large opened space was built. Enough to make us spent hours gazing at the stars.
Unlike my previous world where there was this thing called air pollution that covered mostly the sky, but here, there was none of that.
There's even more stars in the sky than you could ever count.
With my eyes staring aback, and my hands holding a mashed up apple, my mouth continued to swallow as I sat beside Morgana.
Behind was Crane who sat in a chair, doing paperwork I presume.
Before long, I started naming the constellations, well, only those that I know of.
'Orions Belt, the Big Dipper....and...well, I got no more....I wasn't the most brightest student after all.'
While this beautiful scenery took my breath away, a sudden thought washed over me.
'I hope they're living nicely....'
The faces of my old family came to mind, 'Do they miss me? I hope they do. Do they think about me sometimes? Does my friends talk about me often? I'm sure they do. I often leave a lasting impression, you know?'
A long sigh left my lips.
'I'm sure they're already living their best lives right now...they must have kids by now. Beautiful wives...and a stable job, I think? Hehe....he.....'
A long silence began. Both outside and inside my head.
I couldn't think and decide whether to feel lucky or not.
I was thankful that I was reborn, I guess? But deep down....what I really wanted was to grow old with my friends...to laugh with everyone....to feel love....to watch my parents happy faces as I achieve my dreams....
'I.....I miss....all of you.'
A single tear fell from my eye, and before anyone could see it, I immediately wiped it clean as if it weren't even there.
Taking a long deep breath, I smiled at the sky and hoped....hoped that one day....We will see each other again.
With a sniff, I took another bite and ate the mashed apple on my side.
And as my eyes darted to the side, Morgana was now asleep.
'Look's like she was exhausted from carrying me all afternoon.'
"Look's like she's exhausted from carrying you all afternoon, huh?"
I twitched at the sound of the voice. Crane, who voiced out my thoughts is such perfection, covered Morgana with a blanket.
"I've never seen her smile like this before. She's always been so distant to people ever since her mother passed away...." Crane passed me and sat at the side.
"At first I was worried....worried that she'll end up alone because of her fear of making friends....do you know this? Everyone at her age and those younger than her found themselves terrified of her appearance.....I don't know why...but it just happens to be like that."
Listening to Crane's words, I couldn't help but show interest.
After all, who would be scared towards such a young and nice kid. And as Crane continues, I only stared in silence.
"Well, her hair and eye's might look quite unique to these people but these type of genetics can be common on other place...we don't know...maybe there's a place where people only have white hair and pink eyes like her...and the ones they're afraid of are just a normal looking kid for us...."
Crane took a deep breath before continuing.
"Haaa....can I tell you something?"
He glanced at my eyes then returned his gaze at the stars.
"At first....I was scared of Morgana....they say she's a daughter of a witch who's hobby was to resurrect the dead. Well, who would be not afraid of something like that? Necromancy was a taboo even at the empire. And someone who practices on the dead is entirely up to no good..."
With his words I couldn't help but nod in agreement.
A person who can raise the dead. If someone like that existed on my old world then that person would be burned on a stake in a moments notice.
"But....as time passes. I began to know more....they were only rumors, and if those rumors were true....a parent's sins doesn't passed on towards their children....so when I gradually get to know Morgana....I made a promise to only believe in my own eyes, and not by other peoples words....you get what I mean?"
Crane glanced back to me once again, waiting for something.
And once I nodded in reply, Crane couldn't help but laugh.
'What's funny now?'
"Hee....I can't believe I'm talking to a child who's only a few months old.....you know...sometimes I feel like you can understand me. Well, not that it's possible, you should be a genius to be like that. Heck, you must be the smartest man in the world if you can understand language at your age."
'Busted....but it seems like I won't get caught...I should probably act as a baby for awhile.'
While tilting my head as I blinked innocently, Crane smiled and glanced back at the stars.
"You're a pretty weird kid, considering how every child cried at the sight of Morgana, you might be the first one who didn't got scared...."
'I WAS a person who reincarnated....there's no way someone as innocent and nice would be scary...I've had my own fears, but a kid isn't one of them.'
"Well, in any case. Thank you...now I know Morgana won't be alone in the future. I can finally rest easy..."
Though this was the first time I met Crane, there was this feeling that I've already met him.
But I know something like that wasn't possible...
There was still something that lingered in my head.
What kind of thing Crane will do if something were to happen?
Remembering those words, I couldn't help but be alert.
Well, I just hope this night passes by peacefully.
