Chapter 6 - Regret

As night settled over the Saken Campaign Center, Principal Ria took charge of the situation. She turned her attention to the rookies, Cordelia and Egnatius, and issued a directive that it was time to retire to their rooms. Tomorrow, they would begin their training, and Aurelius would join them in their journey.

Cordelia and Egnatius, having received their instructions, left the room without protest, their expressions revealing a mix of anticipation and curiosity.

Left alone with Aurelius and Evelyn, Principal Ria turned her attention to the newest addition to their ranks. She regarded him with a neutral expression, her words carrying a touch of levity. "So you are Aurelius," she remarked casually, her tone light. "You have a nice face."

Evelyn, however, couldn't resist interjecting, her protective instincts kicking in. "Please, Principal Ria, stop saying that," she chided gently. "You're making Aurelius uncomfortable."

Inwardly, Aurelius couldn't help but feel a sense of bewilderment. The events of the day had unfolded so quickly, thrusting him into a world that felt both captivating and bewildering. His thoughts raced as he contemplated how he would navigate this new reality.

Principal Ria, her demeanor seemingly untroubled by Evelyn's comment, continued the conversation. "You've probably heard about the Saken Family from Evelyn," she began, her tone more serious. "You are now a part of this family, Aurelius. Consider it a kind of royalty, ha-ha."

Aurelius, however, couldn't help but voice the doubts that had been brewing within him. "What's the point of calling me if I am weak and possess no magic?" he questioned. "You probably don't need me."

But Principal Ria offered reassurance in response to his uncertainty. "Don't worry, Aurelius. Since you are part of the family now, we will train you. Don't you want to avenge your parents?" she asked, her gaze steady.

Aurelius's expression shifted, a sudden determination igniting in his eyes. "Who… Who are you talking about? Who killed them? I need to know right now."

Evelyn, however, couldn't hide her concern. She swiftly interjected, urging Aurelius to temper his emotions. "You need to chill, Aurelius," she cautioned. "He is a thousand times stronger than you. He could kill you in a second."

Aurelius, his emotions in turmoil, struggled to contain his rising anger and frustration. "Who is this guy?" he muttered under his breath. "And why did he kill my family? Why, after so many years, am I getting to know about this when I had completely forgotten about them?"

Principal Ria, recognizing the need to address the situation, turned her attention to Evelyn. "Show Aurelius to his room," she instructed. "Aurelius, we will talk tomorrow. Get ready for your training."

As Evelyn led Aurelius to his room, the questions and mysteries that surrounded him continued to loom. His past, shrouded in shadows, had begun to unravel.

As Aurelius entered his room within the confines of the Saken Campaign Center, the weight of the day's revelations pressed heavily upon his shoulders. He placed his bags in a quiet corner, the physical manifestation of his transition into a new life. But his mind was far from settled, and his tense demeanor betrayed the turmoil that raged within.

Evelyn, ever observant and empathetic, watched him closely. She could see the storm of thoughts that swirled in his eyes, the questions and concerns that threatened to overwhelm him. Moving closer, she gently urged him to release the burden of his worries.

"Stop worrying about it, Aurelius," she advised softly. "Principal Ria is a good person. She's been taking care of this family for twenty years. You're in safe hands."

Aurelius, however, couldn't help but voice the deeper turmoil that lay beneath the surface. He reclined on his bed, his gaze distant and troubled. "It's not about that," he began, his voice tinged with guilt and regret. "It's about the shift in my life. I think it's a mistake. I shouldn't have joined the Saken family. Now, when I think about my parents, my mother, my father, my sister, I feel so guilty that I almost forgot about them and started a new life."

The weight of his emotions bore down on him, and despite his best efforts, tears welled up in his eyes. He tried to contain them, to suppress the surge of emotion, but the tears flowed unbidden, staining his cheeks.

In that vulnerable moment, Evelyn moved closer to him. She sat down on the bed and, without hesitation, wrapped her arms around him in a comforting embrace. Aurelius, taken aback by her sudden gesture of solace, hesitated for a brief moment before allowing himself to be enveloped by her warmth.

Evelyn's presence offered an unexpected respite from the torrent of emotions that threatened to consume him. He didn't resist her hug; instead, he let himself be vulnerable, letting the tears flow freely as he sought solace in her understanding.

After holding him for a while, Evelyn gently withdrew, her fingers tenderly wiping away the tears that clung to his cheeks. As her hand brushed against his face, an unexpected connection sparked between them, and the air seemed to hum with an unspoken tension.

Without hesitation, Evelyn leaned closer, her finger lightly grazing his lips before capturing them in a soft, tender kiss. Aurelius, still in a daze from the whirlwind of emotions, tried to speak, to question her actions. But before he could utter a word, Evelyn silenced him with another kiss, more impassioned and insistent this time, as she deepened their connection.

In the midst of an unexpected and passionate embrace, Aurelius found himself pulled deeper into a whirlwind of emotion. As Evelyn's lips met his, he responded with an equal fervor, holding her close as the world around them seemed to fade into obscurity.

Their kisses grew more intense, their connection deepening with each passing moment. Aurelius was lost in the passion of the moment, his heart racing with an exhilaration he had never before experienced.

But just as their ardor reached its zenith, an unexpected twist of fate intruded upon their intimate moment. Evelyn, her lips still lingering on Aurelius's neck, whispered a phrase, "Spell break."

Before he could register the significance of those words, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over him. His senses blurred, and his consciousness began to slip away, like sand through his fingers. The room spun around him, and he felt himself losing control.

In a final, disorienting moment, he realized that Evelyn had used some form of magic, a spell that was beyond his understanding. And then, everything went dark.

When Aurelius awoke, he found himself lying on the bed, disoriented and bewildered. His head throbbed with a dull ache, and he struggled to remember what had transpired in those fleeting moments before unconsciousness had claimed him.

It was as if a fog had descended over his memories, shrouding the intense and passionate encounter with Evelyn in a thick shroud of amnesia. He could recall nothing of the kisses, the touches, or the vulnerability he had shared with her just moments ago.

Evelyn, sitting nearby with a concerned expression, watched him stir. She had used her magic to protect him, to shield him from the intensity of their shared moment. It was an act of kindness, perhaps even necessity, given the complexities of their situation.
