Chereads / Aurelius and his Cranian curse / Chapter 9 - Mentor~ Seventh Forsaken

Chapter 9 - Mentor~ Seventh Forsaken

The room was cloaked in an air of tension as Ria, the elite magic member of the Saken family, stepped through the threshold. The Elite Saken members were gathered, their expressions a mixture of concern and curiosity. Ria had faced defeat at the hands of Surprise, a formidable adversary who had left her battered and bruised. Her reputation as one of the elite magic members had been severely tested.

In the dimly lit room, seven higher-ranking members of the Saken Elite Squad waited in silence. These seven individuals were a force to be reckoned with, each possessing powers that dwarfed even the most skilled rookies in the Saken family. They had been called together to discuss a pressing matter - the safety of Aurelius, one of the recently recruited rookies.

As Ria stood before them, the gravity of the situation hung heavy in the air. The eldest of the higher-ranking members, a man of wisdom and experience, spoke first, "This year, only four rookies joined the Saken family. One of them perished, two were gravely injured, and Aurelius, the weakest among them, sustained minor injuries in his encounter with Surprise."

Another higher-ranking member, known for his strategic thinking, chimed in, "We know that Surprise is a formidable adversary, a true beast. However, we are seven, and together we can stand a chance against him."

Ria's voice was resolute as she addressed her comrades, "But you must remember, Surprise once attacked Aurelius' father with an entire army. If he returns, he won't come alone. What we faced was merely a threat."

A hush fell over the room as the gravity of Surprise's potential return settled in. It was evident that the threat extended beyond Aurelius and the rookies. Surprise's reach was far-reaching and ominous.

One of the Elite Squad members, renowned for his knowledge of magic, stood up and declared, "Aurelius possesses curse magic, a power still shrouded in mystery. I know the secret to awakening his dormant magic, but there's a catch. He's human and cursed, a fifty-fifty blend of two worlds. The extent of his awakened power remains uncertain."

He continued, his conviction unwavering, "I volunteer to train him, to unlock the hidden potential within him. As I do, the other five of us will delve into Surprise's plans, unravel his schemes, and be prepared for his return. Meanwhile, Ria, you shall safeguard our camp."

As the higher-ups accepted the conditions and forged their plan to protect Aurelius from the looming threat of Surprise, Nadeem Sufiyan, one of the elite members known as the Forsakens, decided to pay a visit to Aurelius' room. Knocking gently on the door, he inquired, "Can I come in, Aurelius?"

Aurelius, still nursing his injuries and the emotional toll of recent events, welcomed Nadeem with a weary but polite, "Yes, please."

Nadeem Sufiyan, a name that resonated with a hint of a distant and exotic origin, introduced himself, "I am Nadeem Sufiyan. I'm one of the Elite Magic Squad, or as you can call us, the Forsakens."

Aurelius, who had been curious about Nadeem's name, couldn't help but ask, "Why does your name sound like it's from East or South Asia?"

Nadeem chuckled warmly, "Hahaha, you have a keen ear. I am indeed from that part of the world."

Their initial exchange was light-hearted, but Nadeem's tone turned serious as he continued, "I'm here as your trainer, Aurelius. I'm the seventh Forsaken, and I'm here to prepare you for what's to come. I know you've been through a lot, especially with the attack and the loss of Evelyn. But it's precisely because of those hardships that you must find your strength. You must become the man you need to be to face this challenge."

Aurelius nodded, understanding the weight of Nadeem's words. He had been thrust into a world of magic, danger, and responsibility, and there was no turning back now.

"So, are you ready?" Nadeem asked, his voice filled with unwavering determination.

Aurelius took a deep breath and replied, "Yes, I am."

Nadeem's face broke into a grin, and he said loudly, "Hell yeah! Get ready. Go down to the basement. The Saken workers will provide you with training clothes. Change into them and come to the back hall. I'll be waiting for you."

With Nadeem's words echoing in his mind, Aurelius ventured down to the basement, not knowing what to expect. As he descended the stairs, he entered a world he could never have imagined.

A vast underground chamber stretched out before him, filled with an array of weapons, armors, and artifacts from different eras and lands. The room seemed to breathe with history, as if each item held a story waiting to be told. Katanas, gleaming with an otherworldly sheen, hung on the walls, while suits of armor whispered tales of valor and conquest.

Aurelius couldn't help but be drawn to one particular katana. It seemed to emanate a mysterious aura, and its design resonated with him on a profound level. He muttered to himself, "What even is this? All these katanas, armors, artifacts... and what's with this katana? It looks like it belongs to me."

As he reached out to touch the katana, a stern voice broke his reverie. "You can't touch that, kid. Rookies like you aren't allowed to handle items like these," scolded a worker who had been watching Aurelius.

Aurelius recoiled, his curiosity undeterred. He remembered Nadeem's instructions and replied, "I need the training clothes. Master Nadeem said to ask you about them."

The worker, still bristling with irritation, handed Aurelius the training clothes. "Here you go," he said curtly, his tone filled with impatience. "Now leave this place, kid."

Aurelius couldn't help but think to himself, "What's with his tone? Old geezer."

Aurelius stood in the back training hall, anxious to begin his training with Nadeem Sufiyan, the enigmatic Forsaken who had offered to unlock his latent magical potential. The dimly lit room seemed to hum with anticipation as Nadeem approached him.

"Since it's late, we will just talk today, okay?" Nadeem's voice was calm and measured.

Aurelius nodded, responding with a respectful, "Yessir."

Nadeem began, his voice carrying the weight of years of wisdom and experience, "Few generations back, there were almost a hundred thousand people who possessed magic, and they named their race Saken. We were different from human beings, but humans hunted us down. Despite our magic powers, we couldn't protect everyone, and humans murdered us. Now, there are only 32 Saken alive, including me."

Aurelius listened in shock, his eyes widening at the grim history of the Saken. The atrocities committed against his kind were unimaginable.

Nadeem continued, "I possess Spiritual magic, which I inherited from my clan. The Saken family was divided into clans back then. The strongest were the Vale clan, the Everhart clan, and the Sufiyan Clan. I am the last remaining member of the Sufiyan clan. The last member of the Vale clan, Evelyn, died in front of you. Everyone else in the family belongs to the Everhart clan."

Aurelius couldn't help but ask, "So, do you hate humans, considering they killed everyone from your clan?"

Nadeem smiled, a smile filled with a strange mixture of wisdom and acceptance, "Well, I did when I was a teenager. But there's no point in holding onto that hatred. If I have a grudge against humans, should I seek to kill every one of them on Earth? Such things are pointless. All I can do is keep moving forward."

Aurelius felt a profound respect for Nadeem. Despite the horrors he had endured, Nadeem had found a way to rise above the darkness and embrace a more profound understanding of life.

Nadeem continued, "I possess Spiritual magic, as I said. My form is called 'Djinn's Veil.' I was the only one to master it in my clan. Just like we are hiding from the human world within this spirit circle, devils hide themselves within a Djinn's Veil. I control the Djinn's Veil, so if I get into a fight, I can open the veil and release the devils, and they help me in battle."

As Nadeem shared the secret of his power, Aurelius realized that he was not just learning magic; he was also learning about resilience, forgiveness, and the strength to keep moving forward despite the darkest of pasts. Nadeem was not just a mentor; he was a guiding light in a world filled with shadows. And as he prepared to embark on this transformative journey, Aurelius felt fortunate to have someone like Nadeem by his side.

As Aurelius delved deeper into his talk with Nadeem Sufiyan, the enigmatic Forsaken, questions began to bubble within him like a restless sea. The world of magic was vast and mysterious, and Aurelius hungered to understand his own place within it.

As they concluded their discussions, Aurelius couldn't contain his curiosity any longer. He looked up at Nadeem and asked, "What kind of magic do I possess, Master?"

Nadeem, who had become a mentor and guide to Aurelius, was taken aback by the sudden formality of the address. He sputtered and coughed, clearly flustered by the honorific. "So, wait, what were we talking about?" he stammered.

Aurelius patiently repeated his question, "Magic, Master. What kind of magic do I have?"

Nadeem cleared his throat, attempting to regain his composure. "Ah, yes, magic," he said with a nod. "Tomorrow, we will awaken the magic inside you. You possess Cranian curse magic, and that's a unique and potent gift. Combining your Saken magic with curse magic can make you incredibly strong and powerful. However, I must confess, I don't know exactly how to awaken the curse magic, but we have to try."

Aurelius absorbed this information with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. His latent powers held incredible potential, but the path to unlocking them was shrouded in uncertainty.

Nadeem sensed his apprentice's unease and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "You have the heart and spirit of a true Saken," he said, his eyes reflecting his unwavering belief in Aurelius. "That's what matters most. We'll figure out the rest together."

Aurelius nodded, feeling a renewed determination. "Thank you, Master."

Nadeem's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and he coughed again, muttering, "Stop calling me master."

Aurelius couldn't help but smile at Nadeem's discomfort. Their bond was not just that of a teacher and student; it was becoming a friendship forged in the fires of magic and shared purpose.

As they bid each other goodnight, Aurelius couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the journey that lay ahead. The awakening of his powers promised not only strength but also the unraveling of the mysteries surrounding the Cranian curse. With Nadeem by his side, he was ready to embrace the challenges and discoveries that awaited him in the world of magic.
