As the town is engulfed in flames, I hold Artemis in my arms as he starts to lose consciousness. I decide it's probably a good idea to leave, for Artemis' sake. I fly high above the flames, An unconscious Artemis slung over my shoulder. I try one more time to put out the fire. I hold one shaky, charred hand out in front of me, and I summon all the strength in my body. A ginormous feelin of determination rises up inside of me, and a rain cloud the size of almost the entire town appears in a flash. Rain droplets the size of baseballs fall into the fire, as my wings flap vigorously. I hold my intense focus until the fire is gone, leaving behind the charred remains of the town.
As I feel eyes staring up at me, I realize I am incredibly high up in the sky. As I lower to the ground, a town burnt to a crisp, littered with bodies, begins to cheer. For me. As I hover above the ground, a group of medics run over to grab Artemis. I stand in shock as Artemis is treated off to the side. I am crowded by people , and I have no idea how I should carry myself, let alone how I should react.
-----
I sit beside Artemis' hospital bed, staring intensely at his bandaged face as he stirs and his eyes begin to flutter open. Immediately he is startled by me, and I apologize quickly. After he'd calmed down, i tell him about the situation, and what happened.
"But how? I mean- you're not even-"
"A rain dancer? Yes, I'm aware." I say, a little annoyed. "But I am, in fact, a rain maker! If that makes any difference to you." He just stares at me.
"Oh." He says at last. He seems apologetic, but I look away. "well, maybe... you're actually a rain dancer but you just don't know?"
"I highly doubt that." I say, getting more annoyed at him. it disgusted me that he'd rather think I was secretly a rain dancer then accept that the differences between the ranks of rain makers may be made up. I sigh and tilt my head back against the wall. There was no point in getting mad at him, it was just the norm to think that. i watch him fidget with his hands looking worried. he looks up at me, and says,
"But... I just don't understand."
"Understand what?" I question.
"How a low ranking rain maker could summon such a powerful storm such as the one you created. I mean, that was impressive for even a rain dancer. I'm just saying that it's possible that maybe your of royal blood?"
I look at him, unsatisfied. I lean forward.
"Or maybe, the ranks don't mean shit." I challenge.
