Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

I've been working at "Reed's Real Estate" for the last three years, and I'm now 23. I've been working harder than most of his prior aides, who supposedly only lasted a few months, so far.

Currently, today is a workday, but it's also a Friday, therefore Ethan will be appearing at another club opening. He is the CEO of a real estate firm, but he also engages in other ventures and investments. Openings of new bars or eateries are among them. After all, I am his assistant, so I'm pleased I get to go with him to this opening.

I choose to wear a simple blue flowing dress this morning. It has a square neckline and three-quarter-inch sleeves that fall just past my knees. The dress isn't too exposing yet highlighting my form. I decided to wear my dress with a similar jacket and a pair of black shoes. I put on some light makeup for today and twist my hair to keep it out of my face. I'll go back home to fix my makeup for tonight's opening knowing later.

Trina is clothed in a robe and has her hair pulled back in an unkempt ponytail, as I see as I exit my room. I approach her and she comes around from the kitchen to say hello.

"Good day, Nat! Why all this attire? As she completes brewing her coffee, she makes jokes.

"Morning, and I'm not too dressed up." I glance down at my attire while I argue.

She shrugs her eyes, "Sure you are," and continues. "I'll venture a guess that it's a Friday, which implies that you have an after-work commitment." Stating the obvious, she says.

Yes, something similar. Later this evening, Ethan is launching a club, so I figured I should dress a bit fancier. I described.

"Wait! In a club?" As she inquires, I nod. "That wouldn't be appropriate to wear to the club," I said. She claims.

"Why? What's wrong with my outfit, exactly? I ask with some pain.

Well, first of all, it's a club, not a restaurant, therefore, if you get my drift, the atmosphere will be much less formal. As she takes a drink of her coffee, she speaks.

"Okay. And?" I beg her to continue while I wave my hand in the air.

And I believe I have the ideal outfit for you to wear tonight. She says placing down her coffee cup and rising to go to her room. Trina suddenly appears clutching a grey clothing bag and dramatically opens it. I see that the dress is composed of pastel blue lace as she pulls it out of the bag. The dress features a halter top, a straightforward back, and what seems to be an extremely short hem. I continue to look at it for a few seconds.

So, what are your thoughts? Trina asks, breaking my pause.

I respond, "It's too much, and it'll be too short on me.

"Doubtful. Since it was longer on me when I tested it, it will fit you well. She claims. I'm a little taller than Trina. She does have a point considering that I am nearly 5 feet tall and she is precisely 5 feet.

"Fine! I'll put it on when I get home from work. I add that I don't want to dispute with her. Knowing Trina, I am aware that she typically makes the proper decision when making recommendations for others.

"Great!" She says with delight.

Well, if I want to beat the morning traffic, I had best get going, so I'll see you later, I say.

"Bye, and I'll see you later!" Walking to her room, she says.

Compared to any of my step-siblings, Trina has always been more like a sister to me. She constantly gave me the go-ahead to accomplish things, in contrast to my stepsisters Ella and Briana, who discouraged me from doing the opposite. Trina was more social than I was, but she provided a healthy counterbalance in my life. Without her support, I wouldn't have applied for Reed's Real Estate. She seems to have long, black hair that has been straightened. Her lips are big, and she has brown eyes with a deep set. Because of her olive skin tone, I suppose some people would claim that she seemed European. She is shorter than I am, but her body is shaped as mine is.

I first met Trina in college, and we hit it off right away. She soon introduced me to her friends, and we got to know one another more. She found out about my family after she got to know me, and I found out that she was raised alone by her mother after her father abandoned them both. I was relieved to learn that I wasn't the only one who had experienced parental abandonment.

Trina and I have chosen to live together and use our MBA degrees to obtain the greatest jobs possible to pay off our outstanding debt now that we have graduated. Trina discovered a job that allows her to work from home.

I climb into my black Mercedes as soon as I get to the parking garage and turn the key to start it. I owe Ethan a debt of gratitude for making me appreciate my automobile. He discovered that I was using public transit to go to work in my second year of employment with the firm. He decided to give me a vehicle as a result, which I appreciated but felt he shouldn't have done. He badgered me all day long, and I gave in and took the automobile in the end.

It's going to be another dreary December day out here in the Bay Area, but the good news is that traffic is lower than normal as I drive out of the parking garage. Even though I don't have to be in the office until 9, I usually leave around 8:30 so I can get Ethan's coffee and a short breakfast from the corporate cafeteria.

I soon arrived at the company's building, a huge skyscraper with many floors and blue windows. It has a private parking garage, which is fantastic since I didn't have to pay for a whole day at a haphazard lot downtown.

Due to the holidays and our company's annual New Year's Eve Gala, the workplace is a bit bustling when I enter the building. I was shocked to see so many employees from the firm, together with their wives, attending my first gala. The event was created specifically to celebrate our year's accomplishments and to inspire us to work even harder the next year. Even while it still serves the same objective, it now doubles as a competition to see how many employees can stay up till the wee hours of the morning drinking. There was a recurring theme for the event every year. The theme of the gala last year was a funfair, and the one before that was a casino, but this year's will be old Hollywood in the 1950s. Everyone is obliged to dress in theme-appropriate attire each year. Fortunately for me, Trina and I were able to find the ideal outfit for this year's gala. Since I've been Ethan's assistant, I've always been given the assignment of procuring an event planner and serving as the point person for last-minute modifications the day before the event.

I immediately leave Ethan's coffee in the vacant office as I go towards his office after getting my breakfast and his coffee. I next go to my own office to determine what appointments and meetings need to be scheduled. Although it is bigger than most workplaces, my own office is ideal for me. I have a bookcase, my computer, and a desk with a view of much of downtown. Most offices are either too furnished, while mine is simply furnished, with only a few books and a few mementoes on my desk.

My office phone begins ringing as I put my coffee down, and I groan because I know it will be another hectic day at work.
