Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

I'm already hungry when the pizza eventually arrives. I shout Trina's name so she knows her pizza has come. Given that we had various preferences, we each placed our orders. The living room serves as our shared dining area.

I remark as I finish my third piece of pizza, "I never realised how hungry I was."

She responds, "Yeah, me either," as she examines my meal. "Then again, we had a long day of shopping. For my outfit, I still need to locate some shoes. Do you want to go shoe shopping with me tomorrow? She queries.

"Sure! As long as this time, we don't visit as many shops. As I caution, Trina chuckles. I'm torn between wanting to go with her and needing a diversion. No matter how many diversions I engage in, Ethan keeps coming to mind, and I always find that my thoughts return to him.

"Well, I certainly hope I find something." Observing my unexpected quiet, she says. I finish my pizza and realise I've consumed at least half of it. I restrain myself from eating any more and preserve the leftovers for another time.

Trina adds, having finished four pieces of pizza, "I don't know about you, but I'm full." Still, early, I say. Would you want to see a movie? She enquires as she scans her phone.

"Sure," I reply. The longer I am away from my phone, the less likely I am to be tempted to respond to his messages.

What are you interested in seeing? She enquires while she browses Netflix.

I tease, "Anything but romance."

We settle on a film that is more of a mystery but also has some romance. My eyes begin to feel sleepy as the movie progresses, but I manage to stay up until the very end.

Trina remarks on the movie we just saw, "That was some finale.

I tell her, "I'm getting a little tired, so I'm going to head to bed," and she concurs.

I decide to keep my makeup on when I go into my pyjamas because I'm too exhausted to remove it. I then continue to pass out in my bed and go to sleep quickly.

I decide to take a shower when I woke up the next morning at nine. Until my makeup from last night began to run down my face after taking a shower, I kept my exhaustion to myself. I wash my face, reapply natural makeup, and put on some comfortable clothes, having in mind that Trina wants to go shopping once more. When I return to my nightstand to collect my phone after getting dressed, I see that my voicemail inbox is filled. I take an effort to go through and delete my voicemails. Even though I know it's Ethan, I truly hope he would wait until our meeting on Monday. After thirty minutes, I've gone through all of my voicemails while attempting to resist the urge to respond to any of his messages. I finish wiping my phone clean before going to the kitchen. Trina is still sleeping, so I cook her and me breakfast knowing that. I make pancakes, sausage, eggs and coffee to brew. As soon as my coffee is ready, I start to feel a bit queasy and go to the toilet to puke. I believe it must be my deteriorating health. I remind myself to phone my doctor about my nauseous feeling. After I've finished brushing my teeth, I see Trina has emerged from her room wearing her robe.

"Morning! The breakfast I cooked. I say.

I understand. You are aware that you didn't have to. As she approaches me at the counter table, Trina speaks.

I pull a chair out and say, "I know, but I thought I could do something since I got up earlier."

Well, let's avoid making it a habit since I'll have to get up later going forward. She says in jest.

We begin eating and I grinned. We decide to return to the shops in an hour after eating all of our meals. Trina leaves the room so she can get ready to depart, and I take advantage of the extra time to clean the kitchen since I suddenly felt like making breakfast. I finish washing up and take the leftover takeaway from last night to the living room. I quickly return to my room and keep myself occupied by putting some washing I left in the dryer. Trina finally says, "I'm ready to go," and I hear her. I'm glad to leave the apartment, and once again I forget to turn off my phone before placing it on the nightstand.

We visit Macy's later that day to look at their collection of footwear. Trina gets the shoes she needs right away, which is good since I don't want to have to walk a lot further today. She decides to wear a pair of silver stilettos and a pair of black heels with a variety of straps. After Trina buys her shoes, we go on to the cosmetics section, aware that I may need to pick up a few items as I'm starting to run out. Finally, we walked aimlessly into the next several shops to find some jewellery to match her outfit. Soon after that, as it will soon be 2 o'clock, I recommend we have lunch. She accepts my recommendation, so we go to a local bar and grill establishment.

After the final store we went to, I remark, "I can't believe you didn't buy the entire store."

"I'm sure right! There were so many possibilities that I regret not going sooner rather than using it all for business. She says while putting on a faux pout. Now that we have everything, I chuckle and suggest that we go back home. The moment my meal was put in front of me, I realised how much more hungry I had been since our food had arrived. We hitch a ride back to the flat after finishing our meals, and Trina decides to prepare a late supper because I made breakfast for both of us. I told her I would be pleased to assist if she needed it. I enter my room, switch on my phone, and discover a huge number of missed calls and voicemails. When I'm done wiping my phone clean. I choose to take a little sleep before supper since it's still too early to eat dinner and because I feel so exhausted.

My thoughts wander back to that one evening with Ethan, and I can't help but wish he were here to tell me the same things he told me. He seems to be knocking on my door in my mind. I eventually awaken to genuine knocking coming from my bedroom door as the pounding becomes louder. I get from my bed and unlock it.

I say, "Sorry, I unintentionally took a long nap."

"Don't worry! I anticipated a hard day for you. She says comprehension. "Well, the food is ready." She says she's going to the table. She created a chicken pasta meal with a creamy sauce, based on what I can smell. She also served some dinner rolls and a simple side salad with spaghetti. I can already tell the dinner will be delicious from the fragrance. I start filling my plate as much as I can as soon as I sit down.

"Whoa! I was unaware that you were so ravenous. Trina remarks as I take two dinner rolls.

I give a shaky grin and reply, "I think so.

After supper is over, the food is cleaned off the table, and we stay seated.

Trina, it was well done. I appreciate you preparing supper. I congratulate her.

Hey, no issue! I'm happy you enjoyed it. She expresses gratitude. The table is soon cleared, and I assist her in loading the dishwasher. It's just 8, so Trina proposes we watch another movie, and I agree. Since I chose the previous film, Trina chooses this one, and she opts for a comedy. We both find ourselves giggling the whole time as the movie begins. The time is already ten when the film ends. Trina decides to go back to her room, and I follow suit. I decide to get ready for bed when I go to my room. When I'm finished, I check my phone and find less notifications. He seems to be getting the message that we need to chat on Monday, I think. My heart won't be able to handle it if he retracts what he said that evening, so I simply pray he doesn't. I decided to watch a Netflix repeat till I passed out rather than think about my uncertainties. After an hour, my eyes start to get tired, so I shut my laptop and place it on my nightstand next to my phone. I surrendered to sleep.

Around ten in the morning the next day, I realise it is Sunday. I usually use it to do certain errands, such as grocery shopping, washing, or household tasks. After completing two of those tasks, I realised I should buy groceries instead. Only one block separates the unit from the closest shop. I swiftly get out of bed and immediately become sick from doing so. I check my phone once I've finished throwing up and see there are no fresh calls. I can only assume that he is either preoccupied or that he has now realised why I chose not to contact him. I put my phone down, get dressed, and make the decision not to wear makeup. I get up and go to the kitchen to make myself breakfast. I see a plain piece of paper on the counter while I'm eating. I read it and realised it was Trina informing me that she was out doing a few things and may not return till 7. What a waste of a needed diversion. I put my shoes on and wipe my plate before heading to the grocery shop. Knowing that I could purchase a lot, I take my handbag and reusable bags.

I return to my flat with only two enormous bags of shopping and see that my fingernails want some attention. I take an Uber to my regular salon, which is further away from the apartment, after placing my meals in the refrigerator. More time is spent getting my feet and nails done. After all, I needed to spend my time away from thoughts of Ethan, but sometimes I can't help but think about him. I reheat my leftover pizza for supper when I come home and start organising my closet. I know Trina is returning from her errands when I hear the front door open after organising most of my clothing. I exit my room to welcome her.

I say, "Hey, welcome back."

"Thanks! I had a lot to get done. She continues by saying that she needed to have her hair done sooner. I see that she has added some subtle highlights and layers to her hair. She went to have her nails done after the salon, which I suggest we should have done together. I tell her about my day and she chuckles at the coincidence. After chatting for a time, we ultimately decide to go to bed. She reciprocates my good-night message. My clothing for the next day is laid out before I go to sleep. I choose to wear one of the more recent work outfits I purchased this past weekend. The dress is a straightforward maroon wrap dress with three-quarter-inch sleeves and a v-neck collar. I wear basic black shoes with the outfit. I put my clothes away, get ready for bed, and go off to sleep without knowing what the future holds.
