Chapter 24 - 23

After Pan Shi had left, Lei got up and started to pack for her journey that was ahead of her. She packed a few hanfus and a few of the evidence so that way she would have something to look back through to see if she missed anything. Even though a few people have seen the evidence, it's still possible that they've overlooked it.

Lei hopes that her friends can get the plan going before she plans to go and visit someone in the capital. So, that way she can have a steady mind when heading to the capital. But she knows that it's something that she shouldn't get her hopes up for as it could backfire on them.

After a while, Lei had decided to go for a walk in the town so that she could reminisce about the past and the fun times she had with her friends, family, and especially Yu Min.

As she was walking, she had let her guard down when she was reminiscing and wasn't paying attention; which led her to bump into someone.

Lei backed up and bowed. "Sorry."

"It's fine, young lady," an older, yet familiar voice said.

"Nana?" Lei said with confusion. She shook her head as she tried to look at the older lady.

"Young Miss, are you ok?" the older lady asked.

Lei saw the lady clearly before she said, "yes, I'm ok. Sorry, I thought you were my grandma. You have the same voice as her and you also look like her."

"It's fine, young miss," the older lady said.

Lei realized that she was the only one out. "Nana, why are you out here by yourself? It's dangerous out."

The old lady looked around and realized that she had lost her husband. "I was with my husband before you bumped into me."

"Nana, there's no one here," Lei said, "are you lost? Do you know where your home is?"

Nana looked around as Lei was talking to her. She was trying to find her husband as she knew that he was with her.

"Nana?"

Nana started walking away, looking for her husband.

"Nana, where are you going?"

"To look for my husband," Nana said as she walked and looked.

It was clear to Xiao that the old lady's husband had passed and that she can't remember. "Hey Nana, I'll help you look for your husband."

"Thank you young lady," Nana said.

A few minutes had passed and they hadn't found Grandpa.

"Hey Nana, maybe he has gone back home?"

"He wouldn't leave without telling me and he wouldn't leave me alone," Nana said.

"Maybe he did and you forgot that he told you," Lei replied back as she hoped to get her back home safely.

Nana looked at Lei. "You're probably right. I'll go home," Nana said.

"Nana, I'll go with you to make sure you get back safely and stay until you find him, ok?" Lei asked-said.

Nana nodded.

After a while, they got to Nana's house, which was the Min's Mansion.

"Nana, are you sure this is your house?"

Nana nodded.

"This is Min's mansion. Are you related to the Min's?"

Nana nodded, but then shook her head no.

"Nana, do you remember who you are and where you're from?" Lei asked.

"I'm Zhao Bai. I can't seem to remember where I'm from right now," Nana said.

"Zhao Bai? I've heard that name before, but where?" Lei mumbled. "Nana, do you know if you have kids?" she asked to see if she could try to find them so she could lead her back to them.

Nana thought about it. "I think I had a daughter and a son. But I can't seem to remember their names."

As soon as Lei was about to speak, Yu Min saw them. "Nana? What are you doing here?" He said as he walked over to them.

Lei's eyes widened as she looked at Yu Min.

Nana looked at Yu Min. "Grandson?"

"Yes Nana, I'm your grandson," Yu Min said as he got to them. "Lei, why are you and Nana out here?"

"I went for a walk and bumped into Nana by herself. She had said that she was with her husband when I had bumped into her, but there was no one there," Lei stated.

"Grandson, is your grandpa here?" Nana asked as she was still in her own little world.

"Nana, Grandpa passed away a while ago," Yu Min said.

Lei looked at Yu Min with shooked.

"That can't be right. I was just with him when this young lady bumped into me," Nana said.

"Nana," Yu Min said as he explained what happened with Grandpa.

Nana stumbled back before she remembered that her husband had passed. "I remember now," Nana said.

Lei was confused. She had thought that both of Yu Min's grandparents had passed. Lei snapped out of the confusion she was in and said, "I'll be heading back home since Nana is home safely."

"Wait, young miss," Nana said.

"Yes Nana?"

"Sorry about that. I tend to forget things," Nana said. "Oh, right. What's your name, young miss?"

"I'm Lei Feng," Lei said, "also, it's fine."

"Lei Feng as in the daughter of the general and Yu Min's childhood sweetheart?"

Lei nodded. "Yes, Nana. Though, I wouldn't call us childhood sweethearts."

"Oh? And why not?" Nana asked. "Everyone, including some officials, thought that you two would make a cute and powerful couple when you two got older."

Yu Min and Lei let out a nervous chuckle.

"About that Nana," they both said at the same time.

"Oh?"

"We did date, but I broke up with him because of the mission I'm working on," Lei stated.

"Yeah, but don't worry. Her and I are going to get back together after this mission is over," Yu Min chimed in before Nana could say anything.

Nana looked at them both and shook her head. "Darlings' whatever this mission is or how dangerous it could be, doesn't mean that you two had to break up. If anything, it should bring you two together so you two have a better sense of the risks and dangers together."

Yu Min looked at Lei.

Lei looked at Yu Min before looking away and back at Nana. "Nana, this mission is tricky and I don't want to risk any of my friends, family, or anyone else for that matter. But I already put them in danger just by knowing them. The person that I'm after is targeting me and only me."

"Darling, it's safer to be with others during this mission since they're after you," Nana said.

"I know, Nana, but it pains me to see them struggle or in pain," Lei said.

At that moment, Yu Min knew that he was going to risk everything to keep Lei safe and to protect everyone, regardless of what could happen.

"Lei," Nana said, "it also pains them to see you in pain and struggling."

Lei couldn't reboot after Nana had said that so she looked down.

"Alright Nana, let's get you to the spare room so you can rest for the night," Yu Min said as he knew that Lei couldn't say anything else and also due to the plan.

Nana nodded. "Ok. Goodnight, Lei. It was nice seeing you," Nana smiled.

"Goodnight. It was nice seeing you as well, Nana," Lei said as she smiled back.

"Lei, wait here. Let me get Nana to the spare room and I'll walk you back," Yu Min commented.

"You don't have to, Yu Min. I've been on guard and cautious," Lei replied.

"Yu Min, don't worry about me. I'll ask a servant to take me to a spare room. You take the girl home," Nana chimed in.

Yu Min looked at Nana, "are you sure?"

Nana smiled and nodded before she walked in and went straight to a servant.

"Alright," Yu Min stated, "let's go then, Lei."

Lei nodded as she started walking.

Yu Min followed.

It had been a few minutes since they left Min's mansion. There was complete silence between them.

"I thought both of your grandparents weren't alive anymore," Lei stated to break the silence.

"They are," Yu Min stated, "but Nana is my mom's mom's sister who told me that I could call her Nana."

Lei was confused then confused. "Eh? I thought that your grandparent's siblings had also passed due to the plague and other reasons."

"They did, but Zhao Bai was cured from the plague and also she was the youngest of the family," Yu Min stated.

"But I had put that you didn't have any elders in your family still alive. I remember it, because I had wrote it down for your background," Lei replied.

"Lei, remember you have probably changed a lot of characters' backgrounds since you've been here."

"But it wouldn't affect the ones I've actually written. Unless I thought I had written it down, but in reality I didn't."

"That could be it, too."

Lei let out a huge big sigh. "I also have been trying to figure out who in their right mind would try to kill me."

"Lei, were you with someone else when you were hit?"

"I was. I was with Ru, the person I based you off," Lei stated as she realized that the person could've been going for Ru, "I wasn't the person they wanted to hit. They wanted to kill Ru."

"They're probably going to go after him again," Yu Min replied.

Lei nodded. 'They're still out there too, unless they got the person already. But I was covering the license plate. Ru was more worried about me than to pay attention to look at the plates.'
