Chapter 21 - Chapter 21;Favorite books

The next morning, Amiver woke up. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was past seven in the morning. She headed straight to the bathroom to wash her face; her eyes were a bit puffy from the constant sleeping. She also felt something different in her body, a sense of well-being that came from having a good night's sleep. It had been a while since she had slept for a long time, as she usually only got about 3 hours of sleep, if she was lucky, sometimes getting up to 5 hours. This was due to her work and taking care of Marcus.

After cleaning herself up, she pushed aside the curtain that covered the glass wall of the room. She had a clear view of the sea, its blue expanse stretching out before her.She stood there for a moment, gazing at the serene beauty of the ocean.

The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was calming, and for a brief moment, it helped ease the worries that had been plaguing her mind.

Amiver noticed a figure, just having come out of the water after a swim. She looked at him closely, realizing that it was Denmark. She found him really attractive – his strong body shining with water drops in the sun. He looked better than she remembered. He became even more handsome and good-looking as he aged. No wonder he's still not surprised if many are still drawn to him. She remembered Cathee, Denmark's ex. How is she doing now? Do they still see each other? The last time she saw her was 7 years ago when Cathee visited her at their Denmark's home before.

Her gaze and daydreaming about Denmark were interrupted when he waved at her and smiled.

Her face turned red with different feelings, showing that he saw her gazing at him.

She hurriedly closed the curtain. Her heart was pounding so strongly. She shouldn't be feeling this nervousness; she had long erased Denmark from her heart.

A little later, Denmark entered his room again, carrying a paper bag and breakfast."

"Good morning," he said, his voice carrying over to her.

"Morning," she replied, her voice a mix of guardedness and curiosity.

Denmark approached, a genuine smile playing on his lips. "I hope you slept well."

Amiver scoffed inwardly at the irony of his concern. She mustered a nod, not willing to engage in small talk.

He raked his hand through his damp hair, a gesture that only seemed to highlight his charm. "I brought breakfast again and your favorite books.

He placed the tray he was holding on a surface and opened the paper bag he had with him.

Look at this, Amiver," Denmark said, his eyes lighting up as he displayed a set of books on the table. "I've managed to collect volumes 6 to 9 of 'The Chronicles of Narnia' series by C.S. Lewis. Remember back in high school? You were practically leading the charge to the bookstore whenever a new volume was released. Those were some memorable times, weren't they?"

Amiver remained resolutely silent, her attention focused on the t.v as she deliberately ignored Denmark's attempt at conversation.

"Alright, I'll leave you. I'll be around here. By the way, if you need anything, there's a buzzer on the door. Just give it a press it if you need anything."

Amiver's gaze finally shifted from the TV to meet Denmark's eyes, her emotions a whirlwind of anger, hurt, and confusion.

"Denmark, please," Amiver's voice quivered, her eyes pleading as they bore into his. "Marcus is already confused and scared. This situation is tearing us apart. I know you have your reasons, but can't you see the pain it's causing? Please, I'm begging you, take me back home, back to my son. Let's find another way to resolve whatever it is between us." Her voice wavered, a desperate edge tingeing her words as she fought to convey the urgency of her plea.

Feeling a pang of concern for Amiver, Denmark stood up and approached her.

"Amiver, I promise you, Marcus is safe and well taken care of. I wouldn't do anything to put our son in danger."

Amiver's gaze softened as she looked into Denmark's eyes, searching for any signs of sincerity. "I just... I need to know that you're not going to take him away from me again."

Denmark's expression turned serious as he cupped her cheek. "I won't, Amiver. I've learned my lesson. I want to be a part of both your lives, to make things right. Trust me."

Still, Amiver remained silent, not saying a word.

As their eyes locked, Amiver felt a mixture of emotions – the pain of the past, the uncertainty of the present, and the glimmer of hope for the future. She wanted to believe him, to believe that they could find a way to heal and rebuild what was broken.

Denmark sighed, his expression a mix of understanding and determination. "Alright then, I'll leave you for now. I'll be around if you need anything." With a final reassuring smile, he turned and left the room, leaving Amiver alone with her thoughts.

Amiver watched him go, her heart conflicted. Part of her wanted to believe in his sincerity, in the possibility of rebuilding what was lost. But another part of her was guarded, wary of getting hurt again. As she heard the door close, she let out a sigh, her emotions in turmoil. The room felt empty without his presence, and she couldn't help but wonder about the future – about whether they could truly find their way back to each other.
