Chapter 9 - Chapter 9;How are you Ami?

Amiver arrived early at work the next morning, eager to complete the tasks she didn't finish the previous day because she had left early to go home. She could now focus on her work properly since Marcus wasn't with her.

"Good morning, Miss Ami," Maria greeted her cheerfully.

"Good morning, Maria," she replied.

"Hmm, how's Sir Justine's uncle, Mr. Frank? Maria whispered, asking her in a hushed tone.

Well, he's doing okay. He can be a bit grumpy, but manageable," she replied with a smile.

He's probably envious because he wasn't chosen to be VP by Sir Justine in the company, she confided in her.

I understand him though. Some people can be like that. That's why we need to show them that we deserve the positions we've been given, she explained.

After a while, there was a knock, and an elderly man, Frank, entered the room.

"Amiver, can we talk?" he asked with a serious tone.

Maria quickly excused herself from their presence.

"Please have a seat," she gestured to the chair in front of her table.

Mr. Marquez is an incredibly influential figure in the country and a critically important client who could save this company. Starting the conversation with these words, Frank continued.

"But what did you do? Was that right? You didn't even shake hands, and you didn't finish your presentation. To make matters worse, you left us in the meeting room without a word," Frank's voice was stern.

She remained silent, allowing him to speak. She knew deep down that what she did was wrong, and she felt the weight of her selfish actions, refraining from defending herself.

I'm sorry, Director. You can expect that it won't happen again," she said to Frank with a respectful tone.

Hmm, I don't know. There are plenty of qualified individuals who could be the VP of the company. I don't understand why my nephew has chosen various people without board acknowledgment, he said, looking directly into her eyes, as if his words were directed at her. Amiver remained silent.

I've heard a lot about you. They say you seduced your employer's son while working as a maid, then left him and had a child with another man. And now it's Justine's turn, huh? How does it feel to have hit the jackpot again? It was a mocking remark.

Her ears rang from what she had just heard. She took a deep breath, steadying herself before responding.

Director Frank, I understand that there have been rumors and stories circulating about me.I just want to remind you that whether you like it or not, I am the Vice President of this company now, and you need to respect me.".she replied, her voice measured but firm.

Frank leaned back in his chair, studying her closely.

The smirk on his face felt like an insult in that moment.

After a while, the intercom buzzed.

"Hi Vice President, the client, Mr. Marquez from Marquez Corp, is here and he wants to speak with you," the voice on the other end said.

She sighed deeply, knowing that after the director, she would have to face someone else. She wanted to avoid talking to Denmark, but she had to because he was their client, and there were many things to discuss with him.

"I'm going to talk to an important client," she told the person in front of her.

Frank stood up and left without saying another word.

Left behind, her chest felt constricted. She couldn't hold back her tears; she thought she could handle all of this. She realized she needed to call Justine and let him know she really wanted to return to America.

Tears welled up in her eyes as a knock sounded on the door, and Denmark entered the room.

"Have a seat," she offered, pointing to the chair in front.

He remained silent, his eyes seeming to speak.

He had caught her in the act of wiping away her tears, and he could see the emotions in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" he asked with concern.

"I'm okay. I'm glad you came here. I have a lot to discuss with you about the project that got interrupted yesterday," she said seriously, pushing back her emotions.

'How are you Ami? 'Denmark asked as he sat down in front of Amiver.

Amiver's face slightly lifted as she read the proposal but quickly returned.

"I'm fine," she replied briefly.

The surroundings fell silent, and it seemed like they sensed each other's presence.

Is that the child you brought yesterday? Is he my child?" Denmark asked in a gentle tone.

Amiver's face lifted again upon hearing this, and she stared at Denmark with a stern expression.

Excuse me? And why did you suddenly claim that my child is your child?" Amiver's tone rose.

"Ami, I can feel it," he said.

"You have the nerve to come here and say that my child, my son, is your child?" Amiver responded, her voice firm with anger.

"He's not your child, okay? He's with his father now, so don't get any illusions," she replied irritably.

Please, Ami, not this...

If this isn't about the project, we're done talking.

You can leave now," she said, pointing towards the door.

Denmark stood up when he noticed Amiver was somewhat angry.

Before he left the room, he spoke again.

"Mommy has cancer, Ami. She might want you to visit. I told her about you, and she wants to see you," he said in a serious tone before exiting.

Amiver was left stunned, recalling her memories of Mommy Carol, who had been incredibly kind to her and treated her like their own child. So when Denmark mentioned that she had cancer, she became deeply worried.

Later that night, before heading back to her condo, she visited the Marquez residence. The mansion looked just as it did before, unchanged.

Ami!" Mommy Carol exclaimed as she saw her, followed by Daddy Carlos.

Mommy Carol embraced her tightly, causing tears to well up in Amiver's eyes. Meanwhile, Daddy Carlos nodded with a teary-eyed expression.

They talked, and Amiver shared all her achievements during her time away. Mommy Carol was delighted to hear her stories.

"Ami, I apologize if you'll suffer because of our son," We shouldn't have insisted on getting you two married," Daddy Carlos admitted.

"We just want Denmark to have a good life, and we see all the qualities of a wonderful wife in you. We only want him to be in good hands," he added.

It's okay, Daddy. I wanted this too. It's just that I really can't make Denmark love me, no matter what I do," Amiver said with a smile. Her eyes were full of positivity despite everything.

By the way, Mommy, Denmark mentioned that you have breast cancer. How are you?" she asked, remembering why she had come in the first place.

I don't have cancer, Ami. Denmark told me that he met you, so I was excited to see you. But we were afraid you wouldn't notice us," Mommy Carol explained.

Mommy, your joke isn't good. I might have a heart attack from your teasing."

"I know, sweetheart," Mommy Carol said with a chuckle.

"Come on, have dinner here—all of us together. I've missed this kind of scene."

She initially declined since Messie and Marcus were going to eat together in the condo, but they insisted persistently, so she eventually agreed to have dinner with them.
