Chapter 3 - Choices

Evening.

*Graaaaaaaagragaaaa*

It was not my day. I went for the job openings. I didn't get hired. My unlawful past being a big reason for this.

I did indeed steal and was caught as well so I can't blame them for having their concerns over handing me a job.

"That leaves the other half of group."

Streaming and such generally aren't my type of thing but it is one where my current status won't become a liability(until I show my face or something) and I can quietly earn a bit on the side.

The same is true for selling the languages of my previous world. I just need to state down the rules, make it a simple video or pdf file and put it to sale. Languages are in good demand for all the productions that's been happening lately and if I negotiate well, I could earn anywhere between 300-500 Credits. That's nearly 3-5 years of my university fees.

Thankfully I know a lot of languages. I know a lot actually.

(One of the better perks of being in another world with different languages than your own. You can even make my additions and no one would even know)

The there's food competition that I can attend. Considering my hunger, I can easily get a runner up at ease, at least in most of the competitions. I can also feel my stomach to the full but the downside is that the competitions are far and wide and with timeframes that doesn't suit my current schedule. But the prizes of some competition go as high as 999 Credits.

Lastly, I could go into politics. The scope is high and I can literally not fail this at all. The only con of this is that I don't like it.

I don't like any of these actually. And there's not much concrete reasons as to why I don't like these. It's just one thing or another, bits of this and that. Nothing too serious but nothing too light as well.

"What should I choose?"

I wondered as I sat down outside an old and worn-torn looking tavern that was full of customers, even at the seats surrounding me and that is not counting the people who were eating while standing or on their mopads or cycles.

This seems like a regular spot for the people here, likely a testament of the deliciousness of the food.

"Let's go with the selling Languages first."

"Sweet and sour pork with rice please."

I finally chose and ordered the cheapest lunch set that I could splurge with my wealth.

(Yes, Xen is non-veg. And I do write characters that consume normal flesh. Do not be that surprised, Grass returners)

"Did you hear about the Daiyan recent subjugations!" [???]

"Don't remind me of that, my wife lost her job due to them." [???]

"Eh? Her company as well? I heard Manager Sing's Son-in-law's start-up was also in bankruptcy. How many does it make?" [???]

"You work with the Daiyan, you don't know?" [???]

"I just work in a subsidiary of theirs, not the Daiyan. I wish I worked there tho--"

"Quiet with the daydreaming. Even if you did, you would have been layed off from there as well. They are destroying everything after the split."

...

Bai Xue turned to look at the two men, their gaze met his gaze and the two men internally sat closer to each other. Something about him wasn't right and they didn't want to find out what.

"Here's your order."

The gaze broke at the voice of an old man who delivered his food. Bai Xue looked at the food and turned to thank the Old man but he was gone to tend to the others.

"Okay."

Daiyan. Bai Xue has heard of it. It was all to the news after the announcements of their new ventures under the current leads. According to his mates in the department, they weren't doing this is a good way.

Now a week later since then, Daiyan seem to have made their move and his department mates were right.

'I wonder how it would affect me in the grand scale of things.'

He finished his meal and returned to the dorms on time.

Looking at the date, he would get the results of the year end project the next day and then he was free for a while.

"Xu Bai Xu had submitted the practicals and even the project was nearly done with me writing the final bits in, but Father forbid, it took me a month to do that."

"The saving grace being that I was just on time. I am not going to talk about the ungraceful things."

He washed up, prepared his bed and went to sleep. Urgency wasn't something he had. It was the lack of employment.

Thus he will be self-employed from now on. He had enough of rejections as his self esteem couldn't take such one sided rejection where he clearly knew that it was due to his past actions that he was denied the opportunity for.

Everyone seem to be trying to remind him of what he wants to forget and move on.

Henceforth, he was going to be a master of his own income. At least until he finds a better or high paying job.
