At first, when consciousness had returned to Gianna, she had been relieved. When she had closed her eyes the last time she had been certain that she would never be opening them again. But then the pain had come seconds later, a sharp burst of pain that rocked her. It radiated from her core, to every fiber of her being.
Wave after wave of agony crashed into her. Her skin clammy, sweat making the material she was laying on stick to her like glue. She tried to move away from the uncomfortable spot but all that got her was another painful spasm that had her biting the inside of her cheek until she tasted blood. The pain went on so long she finally gave up any pretence of strength and just started screaming at the top of her lungs.
When the wave of pain died down Gianna was finally able to focus, it was then that she realized she was not alone. There were voices all around her, speaking at the same time, making it hard for her to decipher what they were saying.
