Synopsis
In a society where marriage has lost its true essence and has been distorted, reducing it to a transaction devoid of love and commitment, a mere agreement for personal benefits. Silvia Reyes found herself caught up in the chaos as she was about to be forced by her parents into marrying a man she despises. She was able to bail herself out of her dilemma as she offered a marriage of convenience to Davian Randell, who in turn needed it too to solve his dire situation. But life rarely goes as planned, does it? Will they find a way to reclaim love and commitment in their own lives, or will they succumb to the societal pressures that have tarnished the institution of marriage? Excerpt:- "If you think I'm gonna marry that man, then sorry, I'm not!" She said to her father. "You are, Silvia." Her father declared. "I have a man!" She said. "What?" Her parents chorused. "You have a man. You should have told us earlier instead of letting us go through all that trouble." Alan said. "We've been dating for some while now and he proposed to me recently and I accepted it." She showed them an engagement ring on her finger, which she bought before coming to the mansion. "It's beautiful. How come you weren't wearing it yesterday?" Her mother asked. "I didn't wear it yesterday." She answered simply. "Then why did you go through the trouble of attending the dinner date?, you could have just told us," Her mother added. "I wanted to see the man you were setting me up with. I was so angry because I knew I was taken already. I didn't want to tell you guys yet, I didn't want to introduce him to you guys till a couple of days time. You spoilt the surprise." Silvia explained. "Oh I see. So when can we meet this lucky man?, do we know him?" Alan said. "Uh-Uhm...no you don't. You'll meet him in a couple of days time, he's a really busy man." She almost shuttered. "Okay, dear. We'll be waiting." Her mother said. What has she done?, how was she going to get a man that will be willing to marry her in just a couple of days time.

Chapter 1 - Silvia Reyes

Today was either going to be one of her shortcomings or achievements. Silvia Reyes, the heiress to the wealth of the Reyes family was also one of the most successful CEO in the country.

Today, she will be attending an awards event, for the fourth time in a row. She has been nominated for this award for four good times and she always goes back home disappointed-it hurt her ego.

She has been nominated for several awards and has won but this was the most successful CEO home and abroad award, the competition was stiff. She clicked on her phone, it was almost eight pm.

"Please, step on it. I don't want to be late," she said to her driver.

"Okay madam," the driver replied as he stared at his boss through the rear mirror before carrying out her order. The limo sped like the speed of light. Silvia stared at the dark starry skies through the window of her car, her head leaned on the window.

The city was busy and beautiful as always, lights from buildings, cars, streetlights, every corner ignited the beauty of the city even more, the city she was born and grew up in.

"We're here, madam," the driver announced as he got out of the car to open the door for his boss. The entrance of the event was beautified with a red carpet. Many paparazzi and reporters were at the red carpet waiting for the cars to arrive one at a time, so that they could have their fill of unending questions and pictures.

"Oh...oh, oh. It's Silvia Reyes," one of the reporters acknowledged. In just a second, all the reporters and paparazzi were all over her, this was why she sometimes come to these events with bodyguards.

"Miss Reyes, once again you have been nominated for one of the to-die-for awards, how do you feel tonight?" one of the reporters asked.

"Honored," Silvia replied.

"We can see you came alone even when the invitation gave everyone the privilege of a plus one. Is our beloved Silvia Reyes still single?" another reporter asked.

"As you can see, yes. Right now my priorities are my family and business, thank you," Silvia tried to escape them as her driver helped her to clear the way.

"Wait, wait, Miss Reyes. You are so far the most beautiful woman in this event," a reporter complimented her.

"Oh, thank you," Silvia replied.

"How will you feel if you don't win this nomination again?" the reporter added.

"Let's wait and see," Silvia said and walked passed them as the bouncers of the event came to help her out. Her driver immediately returned to the car to drive it to the parking lot.

The event was grand as always, soft music from instrumentalists filled the auditorium. Business men and women were all over the place with their elegant attires and ego filled aura.

Silvia walked elegantly to one of the high cylindrical in shape tables that was clothed with carton gold cloth and decorated with white roses. A waiter, who was carrying a tray of glasses, walked towards her and offered her a glass of champagne which she accepted.

"Look who we have here, Silvia Reyes," a man's voice acknowledged her. She turned towards the man. It was no other than the infamous Gabriel Yul.

"You look exceptionally beautiful tonight, Miss Reyes," He ogled at her.

She was wearing a stand out red gown, her jet black hair was neatly curled and styled upwards, she also wore a pair of diamond earrings and necklace which suited her fair, almost pale skin. The gown was thin handed and crossed at the back almost backless, It was cut up to her thigh and she paired it with matching heels and purse.

"Thank you. It seems like as usual Mr. Yul didn't show up for the event and sent his minion to claim his prize for him," she mocked the man, he scoffed.

Mr. Yul, who was Mr. Leonard Yul was the CEO of Yul enterprises, one of the biggest business firms in the country which was her business rival and this man's younger brother. Gabriel Yul should have been the one to take over the family business but he wasn't, due to his bad record and unreliability which he still held.

"Haha, Miss Reyes. But at least I get to share in my brother's successes. You?, how many times have you been nominated for this award and how many times have you won?" he used her flaw against her.

"Hmmf....at least I don't bask in other people's successes," she cunningly used his own words against him.

"I may not have won this award yet but I have won several others for my firm and you?, What have you accomplished apart from being infamous for womanizing and eating off from your brother's hardwork.

"(Scoffs), you're really the black sheep of your family, no wonder your own younger brother was able to outsmart you and claim the company for himself," she laughed a small laugh as she swirls her drink, her nails beautifully manicured and painted with red nail polish which suited her dress. He moved closer to her.

"One day, Miss Reyes. I'm gonna make you eat your words," he said.

"Don't make a scene Gabriel, because you're good at that. The event is yet to start," she replied.

"I'll like to see you win," he responded sarcastically and her alluring full lips which was also painted with red, pulled up into a smirk. Then he walked away, the night isn't over yet, she thought.

Soon, the event begun. Many affluential personalities were present. A woman and a man were standing at the platform of the auditorium as they address the crowd. The woman came forward first.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I will like to welcome you all to another year of this annual award for the most successful CEO home and abroad," cheers and applauds filled the room. Gradually it died down.

"I'll like to first of all acknowledged some few personalities starting with our special guests of honour," the woman continued and proceeded in calling the names of the special guests of honour. Then, the organizers of the event, the various supporters, the CEO of the night and so on. But that wasn't what they all came here for today.

Hands itched in impatience as they all waited for the announcement, the announcement of the one CEO that will top the rest. It took more minutes before the actual event took place. The woman step aside for the man to take charge.

"And finally, to the main event. To what gathered all of us here. We'll start by listing the ten nominated companies and their CEO. First, Mr. Leonard Yul of Yul enterprises," a round of applause filled the room as the spotlight situated at Gabriel Yul who smiled smugly as he raised his glass of champagne. "He has been the winner of the award five times in a row and representing him is his brother Gabriel Yul as he was unavailable for the event." the man continued. He resumed listing until he got to the final name.

"And last but not least, our beautiful Silvia Reyes of Reyes Corp." he said and everyone clapped as the spotlight situated on Silvia who smiled at the crowd. Her eyes met that of Gabriel's for a short moment.

"And finally. Among all these various companies. The winner...of the award for the most successful CEO home and abroad this year goes to..." the man created a suspenseful atmosphere.

"It goes to Silvia Reyes of Reyes Corp." he announced and even Silvia couldn't believe her ears. The spotlight situated on her again as the crowd applauded her. Gabriel couldn't believe what he was hearing. He dropped his drink on the table and walked out of the auditorium. He knows Silvia, that brat would wave her trophy in his face.

"Please a loud round of applause as she enters the platform," the woman said and Silvia started walking towards the platform. She was given the award and pictures were taken of her.

"This is a break in history, she has been nominated for four times and she eventually emerged as the winner. I wonder how Mr. Yul would be feeling right now. But this is the truth no cheating.

"Miss Reyes landed seven international deals with foreign companies this year and fifteen in our great country, Navarro. While Mr. Yul landed twelve in our country and only five international deals. So congratulations Miss Reyes," the man clarified.

"Thank you," Silvia was given a microphone. "How do you feel about tonight?" the woman ask her.

"Great," Silvia replied.

"Do you have anything to say. Do you want to dedicate this special moment of your life to anyone?" the man added.

"Yes. I first of all want to thank my two best friends, Olivia Shipman and Sentencia Norman...who always encouraged me and who were always there for me and I also want to thank my competent secretary and employees because the leader is nothing without his or her followers. Thank you very much." Silvia said.

Few of the crowd wondered why she didn't give any tribute to her parents but they applauded her anyway. She smiled from ear to ear, it was a perfect night for her. Or so she thought?
