Chereads / Cursed Path to Immortality / Chapter 6 - Mission

Chapter 6 - Mission

At the same time the system appeared in front of him, Dean felt something on his wrist, which honestly shocked him cause he knew he couldn't feel anything.

But when he saw what was going on with his wrist, he only sighed and went back to read the card in front of him, ignoring the slight tingling on his wrist.

' This is probably the last time I'll be feeling something on my body...Sigh, I chose this, I can't complain.'

Two black lines slowly formed on his wrist and connected to the opposite side while twisting in a '~' shape and forming a black '∞' symbol on top of his wrist!

To anyone who would see this symbol, it would appear like a tattoo that countless people made on their bodies, but to Dean, it was his whole new reality.

The symbol in the shape of '~' was none other than the place where the Book of Immortality chose to reside.

Even Dean didn't mind that point when the old man told him about it since he rather has something physical he could see and interact with than something inside of his mind that he could never hope to see or understand.

This is also why he wasn't bothered by the system, cause it was different from the main character's majority of systems he saw in novels.

His system had no sentient; it was simply a program that gave missions and other things that he had yet to find out. Alas, he didn't care and was glad that he wouldn't be worried about its origin or if it was there to manipulate him or something.

He was also told that the system was bestowed upon him by the Book of Immortality itself since it realizes that walking on its path isn't something anyone could ever hope to do without its help, which is the main reason why no one has ever reached Immortality before.

Focusing on the system, he sighed deeply since he already came to such a conclusion but couldn't possibly know the reason without investigating everything first.

' I'll try to slowly find out what's going on with this situation later on; I should first stabilize my new life and open my third gift.'

Meanwhile, the two guards standing in front of the fire church door couldn't help but converse with each other, confused by Dean's weird actions.

" Hey Mike, do you think Dean went for a drink after his test or something like that? Why is he aimlessly looking in front of him without moving?" Ben asked as he gazed at Dean in front of him.

Ben was 1.9 meters tall and tank-like; his cream-skinned gave off a warm feel about him. He is naturally bald. He has orange eyes, large ears, and thin eyebrows. He has long legs, small feet, a muscular neck, large hands, and wide shoulders. His whole body is a canvas for a collage of violent tattoos hidden by his silver armor but slightly visible around his neck.

" Nah, I don't think he is drunk brother; he should have just finished his test and still didn't have time to go for a drink. Maybe he just got tired from the various tests, don't forget that we experienced this feeling before becoming apprentice fire mages."

Mike was an identical copy of Ben which easily could tell anyone that they were twins; luckily people could still differ between them since only Ben was full of tattoos, unlike his brother.

Ben hearing his brother's words, nodded in approval and yelled aloud, waving his hand to Dean, trying to take his attention, saving him from his drunk-like state before people thought he was depressed or anything of that sort.

" Yo Dean, what are you doing staring in front of you like an idiot, come here kid and invite us to a drink before we come and beat you up, or do you think we don't deserve it after you passed your test and soon to buy your gem and become a wind apprentice mage?"

' Here it begins.' Dean dismissed the system in front of him and acted like he was taken aback by Ben's words, seemingly lost in thought.

" Oh Ben, sorry hehe, the test took hours that I became so tired, especially the last one; that fox lady was so beautiful that I almost gave in and failed the test."

Ben and Mike drooled hearing his last words, recalling their test and the seductive frame of the fox lady created by Lady Ariya using her illusion magic.

Dean rolled his eyes; seeing this scene, he quickly closed the gap between them and hit them on both their foreheads with two punches, snapping them out of their fantasies.

" Ayy, did you have to hit me that hard?." Both of them glared at Dean with daggering eyes.

Dean didn't back down and glared back at them, not batting an eye. The whole competition stood still for dozens of seconds, almost appearing like a battle was about to erupt before Dean laughed it off.

" Stop it with your childish jokes, just wait till I get my gem, and we will see who will intimidate the other dick heads."

He then opened the door of the fire church and entered, ignoring Mike and Ben, that were trying to mess with him.

" Bring it on; we will be waiting for you after you learn a few spells," Mike said, laughing loudly.

Dean waved his hand and closed the door after him, focusing on the sight before him.

It was a large hall with a high ceiling, and benches were arranged neatly in rows along the sides of the aisle. Meanwhile, the unique emblem of fire that only the fire church could monopolize or use, added with iron candlesticks and candles, was attached to the front wall.

On the first stage was a white statue of a muscular man dressed in a red robe with wide-opened sleeves.

Everything about him was red, from his clothes to his hair and eyes, that someone would even wonder if his skin was really white or not.

But Dean didn't dwell much on that point since he knew that the red was only due to him practicing fire magic to a godlike level, which made every hair and fiber of his body take on the color red, except for his skin of course.

" Dean? Oh, have you already finished the test and are here to buy your gem?."

A gentle woman's voice rang out from his right, making him turn his head.

In front of him was a black-haired woman around 30 years old. She stood behind her desk, gesturing her hand for him to sit.

She has soulless, thin, pale pink eyes, a round face, and a big nose. She has slanted shoulders, large hands, and a short neck, but given the desk, she was sitting behind, he couldn't see anything below her waist.

She was wearing a pink robe embroidered with red threads, and on her right hand's middle finger, she was wearing a ring, while her neck was decorated by a black neckless, making her appearance toe-to-toe with top models Dean met in his past life.

He didn't waste time and went to the chair, ready for whatever price he would be asked to buy his class gem of wind affinity.
