Chereads / Cursed Path to Immortality / Chapter 5 - System

Chapter 5 - System

After a few minutes and when the room was deathly silent and empty for the whole time, the youth lying on the bed slowly opened his eyes, a frown deeply attached to his face; he muttered as he strengthened back, still lying on the bed.

" Not good, not good, this world is too dangerous, even my identity is rather complicated, what should I do, what should I do."

Dean stood up from his bed, closed the door, and started pacing back and forth in his spacious room, his mind running at full speed as he tried to find the best suitable action he could take next.

About the pain and falling consciousness a while ago in front of everyone?

Dean was merely acting, trying to get rid of them so he could think clearly.

He wasn't dumb; he lived for 92 years, met countless people, and had vast experience in life.

The moment he opened his eyes, he knew that he had already reincarnated, but with the fox girl on top of him and the strong force pushing his mind to the brink, making him unable to think clearly, he faked a yell like he was full of pain and closed his eyes.

Honestly, from the get-go of his reincarnation, he was thankful for his passive skill that neutralized all pain. Without it, Dean doubted he could think rationally in that situation.

On top of that, the few minutes that he was closing his eyes on made him take a look at his new body's memories, understanding this young man's identity and getting a little information about the world.

" My name is still the same, Dean, but this body identity is a bit tricky, f**k you old man, couldn't you place me in a safer place than this."

Whenever Dean recalled that this body was a spy from the wind church sent to make trouble for the fire church branch based in this kingdom and even destroy it if he got the chance, beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

Dean wiped the sweat on his white forehead, fixed his disheveled black hair, and sat on the bed, calming down his chaotic feelings and taking a casual look at the world he will be living in from now on.

" Churches, empires and kingdoms, magic and martial arts also exist, isn't this lovely?"

Dean bitterly smiled, taking a general look at his world.

From what he could see from this youth's information, the whole world called Copitis was ruled by 15 churches, each directly controlled by a certain god; below them were the empires, and then came the kingdoms.

The empires and kingdoms, even though strong, their strength paled in comparison compared to the 15 churches since they were basically watched over by a god.

" Gods, huh?"

As he thought of the gods, he couldn't help but recall his identity again.

" So I'm now a core member under the wind church, even though the position is quite low and could almost be seen as ordinary; this body was promised to be promoted to a rank one priest the moment he makes enough mess inside this kingdom."

Dean's brows furrowed every time he recalled this body identity cause that wasn't the only thing about him.

The problem here is the mission in itself.

He was a tycoon in his previous life who had the most wealth in the whole world, ordering the wealthiest and most intelligent people in his world.

Having his kind of information, he realized full well that an ordinary church member would never be given such a mission without signing a confidential contract or having a strong background, or even having enough strength to take on such a dangerous mission.

Yet, the wind church did just that and sent him on his way without doing any of those two things and having the third.

'Something is missing. Think, think, what could be missing.'

From thinking aloud about his current situation, he swapped it to his inner thoughts; he then stood up and closed the silk curtains of the two meters size window, and began inspecting the room, all the way not making any sound.

A few minutes passed before Dean sat on his bed again, his frown deepening after he failed to find any object out of place in his room.

' No one is spying on me? Or maybe they are using magic, so I can't detect it?'

Thinking to that point, he didn't relax; he opened the door of his room and left the mansion, which is the area where anyone who wanted to join a high enough position in a kingdom or a church would have to visit to get tested.

Dean thought of his family that he would never see after he exited the mansion and his current situation, thinking.

" This is the helplessness of life, but it's also the charm of living," Dean laughed bitterly, turning to walk away.

He chose this, so he wasn't that much bothered by it, even though he was sad that he would never be able to see them again, his fear from death and desire to obtain eternal life prevented him from carrying so much about such details.

It was at this moment.

A gust of wind blew, like a gentle arm, lightly brushing away the clouds in the night sky. The clouds floated away to reveal the hidden moons.

The two crescent-shaped moons hanging in the sky were like a white jade lamp, pouring moonlight clear as water down onto the earth. The moonlight spilled over the buildings, spilled onto the dirty ground, shedding onto Dean's body.

Dean was dressed in plain black clothing, pants, trousers, and a shirt, his pitch-black eyes reflecting the moonlight pouring onto the world, and under the gentle touch of the moonlight, his young white face became fairer.

The darkness seemed to fade away in a flash as Dean kept closing in on his destination, and taking its place was a large building.

The building appeared brighter even on the dark red night, giving a sensation of warmth. Dean knew that the building must be the fire Church from his memories.

'Even walking without shoes on this muddy road, I feel nothing.' He sighed as he glanced at his bare foot.

His mind was full of different thoughts and strategies that he even forgot to wear his shoes before leaving his room. Still, again, his passive skill was right on play, and he literally felt nothing from walking on this muddy road filled with small pebbles that would make him shriek in pain if he was back on earth.

Shaking his head, he glanced at the surroundings and noticed rows of brick houses, shops, and wooden houses that appeared all over.

He hastened his footsteps towards the tall, dome-shaped building that appeared farther away from his vision in the dark-red night. After absorbing the original owner's memory, he understood his current situation and hastily walked towards the fire Church.

Indeed, his destination was none other than the place he was meant to mess with.

' The most dangerous place is the safest out of them all.' Dean mused as he closed in on the building; he took in on the personality of Dean and approached the two armored people standing on guard in front of the large door.

From the memories, he learned that Charles was a Mountain Rock City resident on the Northern edge of the Stegon Kingdom.

It was one of the small kingdoms in the Copitis World. Mountain rock city lord was also a Baron who had an Expert level of strength and had some connection with the Stegon Royal family.

He became an Expert Rank Archer forty years ago, obtaining the noble title through his strength and utilizing a few schemes here and there.

From Dean's memories, he learned that one must be wealthy to get a Class. Otherwise, they would stay as commoners for the rest of their lives.

Unlike ordinary citizens, wealthy individuals, nobles, and merchants had many opportunities to buy a Class from various Churches.

But Dean skimmed through all of this information and adorned the owner's body personality, getting ready to act again.

Only before he reached enough distance to voice his words to the guards in front of the door, a black card full of red writings appeared in front of him, containing various information.

' Well, look at the timing of its appearance.' Dean mused as he read through everything on the card in mere seconds.

Thanks to the information provided by the old man, a.k.a; the book of Immortality. He knew that he was given a system to help smoothen his journey; hence he wasn't shocked by the sudden materialization of the card.
