The morning sun streamed through the windows, casting a soft glow in the grand hallway of the mansion. I descended the staircase, my thoughts still clouded by the vivid dream that had felt unsettlingly real. As I approached the breakfast table, I noticed Alex seated there, his presence catching me off guard. However, my skepticism regarding him had only intensified in the wake of recent events.
"Madam, did you sleep well?" he inquired politely as I approached.
"Did I? I'm not sure," I replied, my mind still entangled in the web of the previous night's events. "Maybe."
Alex pressed for clarity. "What do you mean by 'maybe'?"
"Duke, I don't beat around the bush. I didn't sleep well because of yesterday's incident. And I don't want to discuss it with you, so let's not talk," I declared, taking my plate from the table.
His perplexed expression did little to deter me. "Madam, where are you taking the plates?"
"To my room," I replied curtly.
