Every single newspaper in the world had one name in its headlines: Aleksander Antonov. The man who had gained control of Russia's government. News sources claimed that many top government officials in many countries sympathized with Antonov's vision of a unified superstate that shared resources and worked together to avoid the extinction of humanity. Some countries did not support this, but Antonov had planted spies and support groups in all of them. Japan, one of the countries that did not support his vision, had already been infiltrated.
Two men sat on the balcony of the second floor of a café in inner Tokyo. Outside, couples smiled as they drank coffee. High school students laughed as they joked around. Parents holding hands with their children, going to a nearby park. Everything was normal, and nobody worried about anything.
"You're saying the only way to put the Japanese government into submission is by means of terror?"
One of the men said in a quiet but surprised manner.
"Yes, Mr. Kitagawa. Antonov plans to annex many nearby countries in order to form his proposed superstate. This way, he will obtain more soldiers and support states. He already tried bribing many top officials here in Japan, but they have all refused. We either put Japan into submission by terroristic acts or plan a full-blown invasion."
The other man said in a heavy Russian accent.
"As the leader of the Japanese Antonov Support Group, I inquire if it's necessary to carry these actions on my people. I haven't seen these circumstances take place in any other opposing countries, Mr. Kozlov."
Mr. Kitagawa said in disagreement.
"Japan is one of the most substantial opposing countries. Their government is a big threat to our future as a superstate. Antonov stated that all the biggest obstacles must be overcome with violence and force."
Mr. Kozlov responded.
Mr. Kitagawa nodded in agreement, as he knew he couldn't object. Mr. Kozlov, being a Russian spy and Antonov ambassador in Japan, would follow Antonov's direct orders from high command.
Mr. Kozlov then took a large briefcase and placed it on the table. He removed a few documents that were cataloged as "classified". He proceeded to give them to Mr. Kitagawa.
"These documents showcase our plans here in Japan. It shows strategic sites to hold meetings, smuggle weapons, and where terroristic attacks could be done. Again, if Japan decides to submit to Antonov, we will not be forced to take such measures."
Said Mr. Kozlov as he handed the documents over to Mr. Kitagawa.
"Understood. Let's hope that the Japanese government gives to the pressure put by other nations and by Antonov. That way, no blood will be spilled. Right?"
Mr. Kitagawa responded.
"Only if they submit, which seems difficult in the near future. Your government seems to have no intentions of giving in. The chances of men, women, and children being hurt are very high. This is your only chance to stop this from happening, Mr. Kitagawa."
As Mr. Kozlov finished talking, Mr. Kitagawa stood up from his chair. He looked outside. He saw the smiles of people's faces below.
"As a former teacher, I do not like resorting to violence, especially when children are involved. I will try what I can to make the public and my government see the bright future that Anotonov promises. This is the only way everyone can be happy and worry-free. Terrorism is my last resort."
Mr. Kozlov stood up as well and took his briefcase as Mr. Kitagawa spoke. He started walking away from the table he was sitting at.
"If it's for Antonov's plan, then any measure shall be taken…"
Violence and terror would make Antonov an enemy of the people. But at the same time, his supporters would think that he was doing it for their own good. To a man with such influence, violent measures would be seen as necessary and as part of his plan to unite the world. But thanks to his charisma and way with words, he could captivate anyone who saw bad in his decisions. On the edge of a global conflict between those who support and oppose Antonov, whoever gained the trust and support of the public would win. And that is what Antonov was aiming for…
