Chapter 15 - Chosen One?

My name was called in the barrack's intercom system.

"Hiro Saito. Hiro Saito. Please direct yourself towards the main office."

We had arrived at the barracks after having our half-interrupted weapons demonstration with Sgt. Kimura. We were shown a weapon system that allowed any weapon to analyze and predict bullet baths and bounce off walls, and we were shown a sword with a heated blade and a force field harness. We were going to be divided into two different groups, which would train in individual "classes".

After hearing my name, I stood up and walked outside. Other cadets looked at me with confused looks. Truth be told, even I didn't know why they wanted me specifically. As I walked outside, an employee, whom I assumed to be a soldier, escorted me to the main office.

"Hiro Saito? One of our higher-ups wants to speak with you. Please follow me."

As I walked, I could see many rooms. Conference rooms and offices. This was the main office. People who saw me would smile and wave at me. I would smile back. I felt a little nervous, though, as I had no idea why I would be called up here. No way it was over that incident with Daigo, right?

"Here we are. Please sit down and wait patiently."

I was left in a small office. The office had some memorabilia on its walls. It also featured a big Japanese flag behind the desk. As I looked around the office, a man opened the door. He was a tall man with gray hair. He sat down on his chair and started looking at some documents.

"Hiro Saito? My name is Commissioner Takahashi. I deal with the unique affairs in which some soldiers take place in. Especially highly promising soldiers. I'm here to inform you about some special circumstances that you will take place in."

This man, who called himself Commissioner Takahashi, said that I was in some "special circumstances". What did he mean by that? And why only me? I didn't know if this was a good or bad thing.

"You will be the only War-Knight cadet who will take both Shooter and Swordsman classes. We have been evaluating you for a long time and have seen your skills in combat. We know about your experience as a Yakuza member and your experience in hand-to-hand combat. But we believe that you will prevail as both a highly skilled Shooter and Swordsman."

I couldn't believe what Comisionar Takahashi had told me. Apparently, they had known about my abilities and saw me as a highly promising soldier. They had spied on me all this time. And that's why they wanted to make me train in both classes. I decided to let Comisionar Takahashi keep explaining my circumstances.

"We have created a special curriculum for you, which will mix training of both classes. Our goal is to make you one of our best soldiers, who will the others in victory. You are the only one we chose out of all the other cadets. We believe in your abilities."

Said Comisionar Takahashi.

This was a lot of responsibility, effort, and time that I had to dedicate. I was confident in my skills, but not to the extent of being turned into the star "War-Knight soldier". I had no choice but to abide.

"Very well, sir. I am capable of all types of training. If this is what needs to be done, I will abide."

I responded in a strong tone.

I had to show them that I was capable of doing what they expected from me. Because they knew more about me than I thought. They knew about my past. So I felt obligated to do it. In the end, working harder than the others would make me stronger than everyone else. And maybe I could use that strength to do good… good for myself, others, and the world…
