The next day, I went to work with a heavy heart after my encounter with that desperately, genuinely looking man. But besides lamenting my meat bun, I am worried about William and his wrath for what I did last night at the event.
I walked to the nurse's locker room and got into my uniform before slamming the locker door shut. I then went to check on my schedule for that day.
Even though this job was just an act to easily infiltrate people's data, I wanted to take care of sick people. I worked hard to get my license, after all.
I worked hard for the past four years to be accepted into one of the biggest hospitals in the country.
I took my rounds all afternoon and eventually walked inside the room of the least wanted patient that the hospital had ordered me to handle personally.
"Patient 104, it's time for your medicine," I said to an old woman while carrying the tray of medicines.
It was my last schedule before the end of the day. And I badly wanted to get this done and go home to get some sleep. I'll probably kill someone in the coming days.
This patient had been one of those who gave most of the nurses a hard time.
"I'm sleepy. Just go away; I am not taking any more medicine!" the old woman snapped at me.
I sighed, clung to the metal frame of the hospital bed, and tightened my grip on it.
Here we go again!
"OK, even though I had to repeat it over and over again, it's time for your medicine," I repeated after taking a deep breath.
"You are the insolent nurse!" the old woman snapped at me.
I stared at the old woman, then lowered the tray to the medicine cart and rolled the cart to take my leave.
"Where are you going?" the old woman called.
"Ah, I'm leaving?" I answered, still walking away.
"See?! What is with your attitude? How would I even want to take medicine?" she screamed before throwing a glass that hit my head.
I stopped walking, and my eyes rolled before I faced the old woman again. "Am I not being obedient? You said you didn't want to take your medicine, so I am just following what you wanted."
"You are so rude!"
"Rude?" I sighed. "So, are you going to take the medicine?"
"No!" the old woman shouted again, crossing her arms over her chest.
I nodded while breathing helplessly, "OK! If that's what you want, I am leaving now."
The old woman grunted in dismay and hysterically yelled, "HEAD NURSE!"
It didn't take long before I heard heavy footsteps approaching the room.
"Heureu! To the disciplinary office! Now!" Ms. Tafi, the head nurse, shouted as the door swung open.
I grinned and went to the disciplinary office immediately. I am used to being in the disciplinary office.
I sat down on the swivel chair in front of my facilitating doctor with my arms and legs crossed.
"It's not my fault!" I said firmly.
"I am not going to reprimand you for your offense again; I wanted to know why you had to make a scene last night," William said while busy scribbling on a piece of paper.
"Well, I just felt I needed to do it."
He stopped writing and looked at me. "You needed to kiss Nick?"
I fell silent for a moment before responding, "Y-Yes."
I stared back at him intently, wanting him to feel what I wanted him to feel for a very long time.
He refused my gaze and returned to what he was writing: "Do you have any idea who that person is?"
"His name is Nick. And that is enough. I don't think I have to know him more."
"Did you like it?" he asked, which caught me off-guard.
I took a deep gulp in shock.
His voice deepened, and his muscles looked tensed.
William has been my friend since my first year in medical school. He never really showed any emotion or showed me this kind of intensity before. He would only correct me for my unruly behavior with his emotionless face and monotone voice.
"W-What if I like it?" My heart was racing in the hope that he would answer the words I longed to hear.
I know I am not allowed to fall in love with someone outside the organization, but I could do something about it since I worked hard to be at the top.
He looked at me again, ripped the paper he was writing on, and handed it over to me.
"After this week, you are to be suspended. I don't want you going to the hospital or anywhere near here," he said while walking to me, unbuttoning the first three buttons of his polo.
"Suspended? That is too much. I was just..." I wasn't able to continue what I was saying when he suddenly held me by my waist and lifted me to sit at his table.
My body felt stiff. I couldn't move. I am breathing heavily. I had been training not to let my enemies even get a touch of my hair, but to him, I felt weak.
"Nick is the son of the hospital's president. And I am suspending you because it's the board's decision! Your acts might have resulted in serious consequences!" he said before walking away. "I'll treat your wound, so stay still!"
I forgot my head was bleeding from the grumpy old woman a while ago.
William fetched his medical kit and returned it to me.
His presence near me was too much for me to handle. But my heart almost stopped as I saw a tattoo on his shoulder when I got a glance inside his unbuttoned polo.
I tried to get a good look as he tended to my wound, but he finished immediately.
"Go home and take a rest!" he said while fixing his kits.
"Let's go eat. I am not in any way planning to meet Nick again," I told him.
"I can't. Ferine needs me tonight!" he answered, leaving me behind.
My shoulder dropped upon hearing Ferine's name. As always!
I jumped off his table irritated and went to register my time out of work.
Walking to the time-out office, I exhaled at the sight of my only companion, marching with his ugliest, most irritated face toward me. "You know, I heard what happened last night; do you want to lose your job?" He yelled at me.
"Shut up, Niko! I am not in the mood to explain! I just want to go home!" I said, punching my card into the registry.
I stormed out after getting my ID back.
"Wait for me!" Niko yelled in irritation.
I am too occupied right now.
William had a tattoo that looked like the tattoo of our organization.
But why wouldn't I know about it anyway?
"William told me that you cannot ride your motorcycle. We are taking the bus!" Niko told me while walking behind me.
I stopped and felt more irritated. William's actions were tormenting every inch of me. Why would he be so caring when all his time is for Ferine?
Niko walked past me and I followed him, never bothered resisting.
It wasn't long after we rode on a bus that it started raining.
I looked outside beside the window where I was sitting on our way until the bus stopped, and Cavin stepped in and walked towards us in a vendor's get-up.
"Hi princess! It won't take long! Your father wants to see you!" he whispered after handing me a bottle of water. "See you!"
He then walked out of the other door when the bus started moving again.
The bus ride home from the hospital took almost half an hour. Niko pressed the stop button, and we stepped out.
"Come on! Faster!" Niko yelled to me, trying to fit us in his small umbrella.
"Whatever! I don't need an umbrella!" I said to him before running ahead of him.
Umbrella is for the weak. I've never used an umbrella since I started walking down this old alley in the populated neighborhood I grew up in.
"Shit!" I gasped as I stumbled hard on the wet streets as someone bumped against me.
I raised my gaze, and I saw a rebellious-looking man, looking just my age. He had piercings everywhere, and his shoulder-leveled curly hair was tied in a half-messy bun. He looked so ragged, with his shirt and pants covered in dirt and cuts.
"Stupid!" he yelled at me while he held onto his sides.
He was bleeding!
I stood up and stared at him. "No one can tell me that I am stupid. I'd let it go if you had called me crazy!"
I grinned before throwing him a good punch. "I accept apologies too! Asshole!"
He almost got knocked down, but I got hold of his hand and called Niko to help me carry him.
"Let go of me! Where are you taking me?" he barely said; he was too weak.
"I'm treating your wounds so you get to fight a fair fight!" I smirked.
