Chapter 28 - 27. Do not test me, Xian.

"She cannot stay here, butler Zhang. Take her to another room. I will go see the twins," he said so dismissively, but butler Zhang was not backing down.

"Younger miss will go nowhere. You may take it up with the chairman if you dislike the decision, but I will take her luggage back to the room."

"You're kidding me!" He huffed. "Then tell grandfather I will leave the family house and I will take my sons along with me."

The butler tilted his head and gave Xerxes a pointed look that read, 'I'd love to see you try.'

Zena looked at both of them and at Xerxes' annoyed expression. "Wait, you really insist that I stay here? In the same room with him?" She asked, and the butler directed that pointed look at her. Zena took a step back and shook her head, crossing her hand over her chest as she stared down at her husband.

Her ludicrous actions repulsed Xerxes.

"What the hell are you looking at me like that for? As if..." he gagged and she scoffed.

"I cannot stay here. I am a recovering patient. Surely grandfather will not put me through this as well. Would he?" She said, stepping closer to the butler. "Please, I cannot stay with him. My safety is at stake."

"What do you mean your safety is at stake?!" Xerxes huffed and she jumped behind the butler.

Xerxes stepped forward with a deep frown, when he saw her cautious eyes. "Hey, do you really think I was the one that sent the assassin to your room?"

Zena looked away and said nothing.

"Answer me! Is that what you told that bastard to make him spout such foolish allegations?"

"I have no idea of what you are talking about." Zena said.

"Have you been going around telling your lovers that I'm trying to kill you? So they would antagonize me?"

Zena's eyes and mouth widened and she scoffed. "What?!" She huffed. "I don't know what you are saying but perhaps it's a guilty conscience that is causing you to lash out at a statement I made to Butler Zhang."

"Guil- guilty conscience?" Xerxes huffed in disbelief.

Tired of their arguing and constant refusal the butler reached forward and took Zena's luggage from her grasp. "I will return your luggage, we have placed your remaining clothing items in the closet and as I said earlier. If you have a problem with this take it up with the chairman."

They both watched in shock as the butler walked passed with her luggage and Xerxes huffed then walked back to her until a few steps remained between them. "I will warn you now and warn you once, I better not see you in that room or else."

Zena's brows furrowed and she took a step forward to close the distance between them. "Or else what?"

"Do not test me, Xian."

"You think I want to be in the same room as you either?"

"How the hell am I supposed to know that? You are not supposed to be a part of my life by now, but you insisted on remaining married to me when we could have avoided this unpleasant situation!"

"You were going to take my kids, away!" She yelled back.

"Since when did you begin to care for them?!"

"Since they were my children, and carried my DNA and came out of me!"

"You want me to believe you are doing this only for the boys?"

"I don't want you to believe anything nor do I need any of your trust Xerxes, I am not asking for it either," Zena began. "I simply want to have the ability to see my sons and be with them as much as they need me. I am their mother!"

"You didn't see the need to think about that when you were signing them away for money?"

"Apparently, I didn't but thankfully I changed my mind."

"You are so infuriating!" He huffed in frustration. "I would have had you for lunch, dinner and breakfast in a courtroom had grandfather not intervened."

"Well you shouldn't blame me for that," she scoffed.

"And who should I blame?"

Zena looked him straight in the eye and smiled as she said, "your own incompetence. What kind of grown man still needs granddaddy telling him what to do?"

"You bitch!" He growled.

That insult dug deep into her but she bit her lips and chested it.

"Look, I am sure there is a way we can work out that room without having to run into each other."

"I am not opposed to you sleeping here out in the hallway, but how do you propose we do that without me getting the blame for abusing my recovering wife?"

Zena shook her head. "But seriously, you are a president, can you not stay somewhere else?" She asked and Xerxes threw his head back in ire-filled laughter.

"Oh so I should be the one to abandon my sons?"

"Fair enough." She stated. "Well, if you are going to see the boys now then I can freshen up and leave by the time you come back. But you have to take longer than you used to dress up becasue I don't know what kind of telepathic shit you are on."

"And where will you go?"

"To see my sons. I am sure I can stay there overnight as well, it would even be the best for me, I wouldn't have to leave them at all."

"And sleeping arrangements?" He asked.

"President Zhen, are you showing care for your despised wife?"

He gave her a sarcastic grin which she returned. "If you happen to- why do I even care."

"Exactly, continue that way. Do not dare care for me," Zena said, and Xerxes scoffed.

"Like I would."

"Good, because I will make it clear. I am not interested in pursuing a relationship with you, all I care about right now are my children and I will do anything to be with them even something as disgusting as confessing my love for you." She said.

"We will draft up a timetable or I could just wait for any time you are absent to come to the room. Is that okay with you?"

Xerxes was too stunned to speak, so he only nodded she gave him a small smile and turned around to walk into the room when he finally found his words.

"I am really thankful Xian."

Zena turned to look at him with raised brows.

"For a split second there I thought you really had changed but you are still the same vicious snake you have always been. Don't you dare change, wife," he said, his words dripping venom yet he was calling her the snake. "It will make taking you down all the more satisfying." With that, he also walked away.

"I'm afraid it is already too late." She whispered.
