Blake Pearson had had enough for the day.
The endless meetings and constant complaining from his subordinates was more than enough to drain all the energy from him. Not to mention the fact that he now had to sneak out of his own company to avoid Angela Tang in the lobby. The last thing he needed today was to be forced to deal with his stalker.
"Roy, I need the contract from AFD Corporate before I can go home. I looked it over, I just need to sign it and have you fax it over to them." Blake said on the phones' intercom to his assistant Roy Longman.
"Mr. Pearson, there's a Jessica Hopkins here to see you about a very important matter. She refuses to tell me what it is but insists that it involves your family and the summer your brother went missing in New York."
Stunned, Blake took a second to think back to that summer. He recalled the black haired, hazel eyed beauty that was McKenna Adams. She was in college to become a professional baker and had a dream of opening her own shop. And she had put her summer break on hold to help him look for Jackson after he had gone missing after getting back from the front lines in the east for last time.
He had come back on an honorable discharge but his mind had been taken over from the PTSD and he had just wandered around New York after being discharged from the hospital. Worried after losing contact, Blake had flown up from Florida and started looking for him. McKenna had recognized him from the park and had taken time from her own busy schedule to help look, something that Blake had been grateful for, not knowing the city as well as she did.
He had searched for McKenna after getting back home but to no avail. She had switched schools due to funding problems and they didn't know where she had gone. After searching for her for a year, he had accepted it as fate and went on with his life, never really finding the same level of relationship with anyone else he had had with her but always looking for her on the streets when he was in town for business.
"Let her in please" Blake said into the phone.
A blonde haired, blue eyed woman, roughly five soot six, came strutting into the room and offered her hand to him. "Mr. Pearson, thank you so much for finally agreeing to see me. I am here on behalf of McKenna Adams, she's been looking for you for about 7 years now.
Well I hope it's you she's been looking for anyways. All we're asking is if you'd consent to a paternity test for her twins. There's no chance of it being anyone other than the Blake she knew that summer."
"Wait, what?! She got pregnant from just one night together?" Blake exclaimed loudly. He was shook! She had said that she'd been told she could never get pregnant so they hadn't thought to use protection that night.
Miss Hopkins' eyes went round. "You remember her?! Oh my gosh, I really did find you! This is amazing! You have no idea how hard it was to track you down! You're the only man she's ever been with, just so you know. We're kind of besties after spending so much time together now!"
Blake was stunned into silence. He barely took in everything that Miss Hopkins had said. He thought about everything for a few minutes before questions started filling his head and he just needed answers now.
"Where is she? What are the twins' names? Are they okay? Was she ever able to open her bakery that she wanted? I have a branch in New York City just in case I ever found her. This is…wow…I'm a father? And she's still single?"
"Whoa whoa whoa, slow down, one question at a time. The girls are six, they're Jasmine and Amber Adams. She does have her bakery, we need to do a paternity test just in case but yes, I really think you're the father. And she's determined to stay single for the rest of her life. She isn't looking to get back together with you, or even asking for child support. All she wants is for the girls to have a family. It's the only thing she hasn't been able to give them."
Blake was stunned yet again. She wasn't after money or a relationship. Just familial ties for her daughters. For Their daughters. He knew they were his, they just had to be. And if she was determined to stay single then he was just as determined to change her mind. He had never really given up hope on finding her, and to know she had been looking for him as well so that his children wouldn't go their whole life without a father made him love her more than he thought he had before.
"Can you take me to her please? We can take my private jet." Blake pushed the phones' intercom button. "Roy, we need to get ready to go to New York City. Something big just came up and there's no way around it. Cancel all my meetings for now and tell them it's a family emergency please."
"Right away sir, we can have everything ready by tomorrow morning, eight o clock."
"Miss Hopkins, thank you so much for meeting with me today, let Roy know where you're staying and he will add you to the itinerary tomorrow. We'll bring you to the airport and I'll compensate you for your plane ticket back home." "Thank you so much, I'll call McKenna and let her know I for sure found you so she can tell the girls! You were a hard man to find."
Jessica and Blake shook hands and Blake took the back elevator out of his office to the parking garage. He needed to go home and pack as soon as possible. He finally knew where McKenna was and there was no way he was going to let her go.
