The door was banged open only just for a tiny but classic creature to apprehend into the room, Theo who was right at the door became curious about the lady" Who the hell is she?"Theo thought to himself.
"Hello, Miss Alice Greenhood" A tiny and quiet voice was heard, Alice froze at the sound of the voice, How would she ever forget this voice "How dare this witch step her feet into my mom's ward and say my name.?" she walked over to Alice like she was here for her.
"Longest time, daughter of a mere dumb mistress" Alice looked over with a spark in her eye, she felt so angered.
"Hello, to you too Mrs. Rita Goerge, I can't believe you look worse than the last time I saw you and when was that again.?"Alice complimented her with a smile toying on her lips which displayed disgust and anger. The smile went off Rita's face as soon as Alice replied to her in such a rude tone on her voice and, was she supposed to say 'thank you' for the painful compliment she had given her or what.
"I guess you are yet to learn some manners but it's fine I guess your mom will keep on learning from me and then teach them to you while she's in her grave."She gave out a strain of laughter.
"Then I think you should do well in teaching her some more, teach her as much as you can before you run out of time"At this time Alice had come right face to face with Rita while she challenged her with her words.
"I see you still have the nerves to talk back, anyways it's fine am not here for you."She walked past Alice and went straight to where Jamie lay." Hey Mistress, how are you doing and what did the doctor say about your health.?" Her smile was just so mischievous and devilish that one could not even look eye to eye with such evil-looking eyes.
"What do you want Ma.?" Jamie said with her face down.
"Mom.?" Alice was pained she just could not stand what was going on right now, none of the ladies had a gaze or response to her.
"I don't care about your health you know that right.?" Rita smiled and continued "We will be having a home dinner party and you are expected to be there so, gather your stinking ass and get home before 4:00 pm tomorrow and make sure not to be late, you must be there before the guests enter, Hope am clear.?"Rita had made her message clear.
"Yes, Ma," Jamie responded to the orders that she ought to carry out.
Rita was satisfied with the response she got and was ready to go. She turned to take her leave but was blocked by Alice, they were face to face with each other and stared directly into each other's eyes, it was more like a staring competition and it went on for a few minutes just until Alice cleared her throat breaking the silence between them.
"You better watch your back closely. See you some other time," she advised and shifted out of the way for Rita to pass and she did pass, took to her heels, and stumbled out of the hospital with anger streaming through her veins.
"How could Jamie allow her daughter to mock me so much" Rita stepped into her car murmuring without knowing her words were loud enough to draw attention towards her, people looked at her like she was some lunatic.
Back in the ward Theo was shut of words on what just happened between Alice and her stepmom," Is this the kind of family Alice came from.?"Theo thought to himself. He just couldn't stop thinking not until he had his name loud in his ear.
" Yes.?"
"You were so zoomed out and distanced what's wrong.?"Alice couldn't help but ask.
"Nothing am fine, what can I help you with?"Theo forgot what was on his mind for some seconds and focused on Alice.
"Are you sure you are fine 'cause you are looking so pale?"Alice was concerned about Theo she didn't know if he was worried about what just happened knowing how much of a caretaker he could be or if something else has crossed his mind.
"As I said am fine. Am good." He had to reassure them so as not to worry about him. He looked over at Jamie and saw how pale she looked as well he was too pained but couldn't do anything about it.
"Theo can you please help me get the doctor for the last check-up for the day so my mom could flee to bed."Theo left to call for the doctor just like Alice had requested of him.
"Mom, you heard what the doctor said earlier you will be staying at the hospital for two weeks to be able to recover fast, heal your bones and put yourself together to a good contour before returning to that hell of a place." she searched for words that will make her mom see reasons why she should stay back at the hospital.
"Am fine my dear, I will be discharged by tomorrow and you don't have to worry about me just take care of yourself for me okay.?"Jamie didn't know what to say.
"Mom.?"
"Alice listen to me"Jamie held Alice's hand and drew her closer to where she lay."I will be fine trust me am a strong woman and you know that."
Theo came into the ward with a nurse right behind him. She went straight to Jamie, did some checkup on her, and exited the room as soon as she was through with her job. Jamie was down and ready to sleep, Alice insisted on sleeping over at the hospital right beside her mom. Theo sent his good night wishes to them and left.
