Chapter 34 - 34. Who are you to care about me?

Mingxia reservedly enunciated; her voice was icy, and she made sure that her tone was very distant. Mingxia stood firmly, ascertaining that Yuxuan understood that whatever they had in the past or went on during their time was only a mistake—a painful mistake! "Good luck." Mingxia verbalized as she made her way to the hallway; she halted when Yuxuan gripped her arms. Her brows wrinkled while she stared deeply at him.

Her inner self screamed for her to run, yet her legs were suddenly disconnected from her brain. The feeling, his touch, everything seemed so new to him. As soon as she was about to withdraw herself from him, another sturdy arm came, yanking Yuxuan by his collar and tossing him to the other side. Her eyes fell on the man on the ground, and she heard him wince in pain.

"Stay away from her. Mingxia's head tilted in the direction where his voice was heard. To her astonishment, he was here. Mingxia swallowed all of her saliva down through her throat. She stared at Lixin's masculine, slim fingers grasping her wrist protectively. Lixin pulled her some distance away from Yuxuan. She became flustered and flabbergasted by his actions. "Let us go, Mingxia."

He pulled her by her arms, calling her name as if it were a precious gem. And damn, it sounded heartwarming as it echoed in the hallway. Yuxuan countersigned this, and rapidly, Mengyao's words of Mingxia climbing onto another man's thighs irritated him to the core, so he stood up and grasped Mingxia's arms.

"Who are you? Mingxia, who is he? Yuxuan asked, refusing to let go of her even when the man's aura next to her was worsening. He could perceive deadly glares from this man, and despite that, he clenched tighter, not wanting to let go.

"Mr. Luo, kindly let go of me. You are causing a ridiculous scene here. Who are you to care about me? Mingxia retorted, folding her arms in a bridal way into Lixin's own. Yuxuan chuckled, rubbing his forehead, and then looked straight into Lixin's eyes. He was tall and perhaps from a rich family; as predicted, she did upgrade her taste.

Yuxuan greened in envy, refusing to acknowledge that she was better off without him when, frankly speaking, she was enjoying her new life with him. He fumed, and despite it all, he was able to suppress his anger. He examined the man next to Mingxia and felt jealous. She truly was able to move on without him, but what did he do?

Nothing! His days were empty as they lacked the first genuine person he fell in love with in his entire lifetime. Knowing she was better off with another guy threw him off balance. Envy sprung from the bottom of his heart. He glared at Lixin, disheartened by his presence.

"If you have a problem with me, talk it out. Do not disgrace me like this next time. It is truly embarrassing for everyone to find out that I dated a meager earner! Yuxuan, you should move on and accept your new child with Miss Xu. It would be difficult to explain to her when this gets to her ears."

A meager earner?

He was embarrassing.

Talking to her was a disgrace.

Yuxuan glanced at Mingxia, unsure of what to say next. He only looked at Mingxia, fuming internally. They had left him like he was nothing. Yuxuan straightened himself up and carried his briefcase into the courtroom. Seated, there was a full crowd, and within that crowd, he spotted Mingxia and Lixin whispering and discussing.

Minutes went by, and Haoyu was not yet seen. Yuxuan grew anxious, dialing his number several times without a response; nonetheless, no response came through. He excused himself from the jury, heading towards the exit of the building. He hung his head low, leaned against the wall, and dialed Muchen's number.

"Is there something you are not telling me? His response to Muchen's growl stunned Muchen himself. Had he not blocked Yuxuan's number from his phone? How was he able to...

Muchen stopped quizzing himself internally, crossed his legs on the table, sipped on his black coffee, and sighed. Presently, these people are no longer useful pawns in his plan. The faster he annihilated them, the better his life would get. Muchen chuckled mischievously, rolling a pair of dice between his fingers and looking at the clock. The ticking noise gave him a good feeling and a huge grin was plastered on his face.

"Yuxuan, Haoyu is out of the game. He thought he could overshadow me; therefore, I made him see how useless he was without me. Do you want your father to be next? Muchen's tune was so ruthless that it resulted in him clenching his fist and his teeth gritting loudly. "Are you still there, or are you so stunned that I am this wicked? You caused it when you signed the contract with a devil like me. Expect more from me, Xiao Xuan."

Muchen hung up the phone, leaving Yuxuan in a desperate mood. He closed his eyes, releasing the rage that was rounding up in his heart. Everything that he saw was red—nothing but vengeance. As long as his father was still in Muchen's clutches, he was going to be Muchen's toy that could easily be disposed of with no trouble.

Who was he to refute such a good offer?

Only if he had known that he was signing a life-threatening deal with a merciless demon that would end him in endless bondage would he not have signed the deal. However, what life threw at him warranted it. His father's medical bills were due at that time, and Muchen was the only option he had. In return, he had to date Mingxia, and his father became collateral for future purposes. He wished he was wise at that time.

He had signed it, and according to Muchen, there was no going back. Either he helped him do his dirty schemes or his family would be wiped out, including his sister, who was studying abroad. He sacrificed so much just to give them a good life. Why couldn't the earth pity him?

Since birth, Yuxuan's life has been hectic. His mother had a miscarriage leading to follicle cancer, from which she died some months after giving birth to his sister, Luo Xiao Yi. His father's job brought them little earnings to take care of them. He had to take a part-time job during his high school days and sometimes had to skip classes to earn more bucks. Years later, his father, Luo Duan, murdered his employer and, to cover it up, committed suicide.

Growing up was not easy, as he had to earn through his nose for so many years to help his sister and him too, until he met Mingxia. Yuxuan knew he was only hired by her father to play with her feelings, but found it hard to fall for her. She was the purest, innocent being with a good heart he had met in his life. When others disregarded the need for honesty and justice, she fought for them. Simply put, he was the best thing that had ever happened to him. Yuxuan rolled his eyes, pocketed his phone, and entered back into the building. Today was just a waste of time.

"Mingxia? How far are you going to keep this up? You clearly cannot forget about me. Feelings do not lie!"
