"Officer Lian, what's with that sadness written on your face?" Liu Xian asked as he approached her.
Liu Xian was her friend here in the headquarters. He was also part of the Orphan Mission organization.
"I heard Chief gave you a new opportunity," he asked in amusement.
"Opportunity my ass," she mumbled. Liu Xian chuckled when he heard how she was against with the Chief's assignment for her.
"Maybe he wants you to shine in your own way. He has seen that skill of yours for a long time," he said, half-praising the woman.
"Really?" she asked, which made him laugh. "Today is the fresh start of my new case. Wish me luck," she added with a smile.
"I don't think I need to wish you luck, as I know you'll resolve this case quickly."
"But... still, good luck," he added, returning her with a genuine smile.
"I saw someone waiting for you outside. I think that person is part of your case," he added, shrugging his shoulder. She saluted him, and he returned the gesture.
"Oh, by the way, there's a fancy car waiting right outside. I think that was one of our clients. I've heard it was Mr. Zhang," he added while shrugging his shoulder.
"See ya, Officer." She just waved her hand to bid a goodbye without looking back. She hadn't gone outside yet when someone came out from a fancy car. The guy is so familiar, even with his side features. The guy was now leaning on the hood of his car with folded arms across his chest.
The guy finally turned his glance to the hall where she is right now. She slowly walked towards him.
She had thought Mr. Zhang would be here, but she didn't expect to see his son instead. She sighed, slowly walking towards him.
"Excuse me?" she asked respectably.
The guy shifted his gaze to her. When the woman was already in front of him, he glanced at her head-to-toe, which made Lian Qiang conscious of her look.
Is there something wrong with her?
Lian Qiang was wearing a loose jacket and baggy pants. Both the jacket and pants were comfortable and easy to move in. She also had on a pair of new boots. The boots were tough and good for work, but they also made her outfit look cool. Even though her clothes were casual, they were perfect for her job and hid her fit and ready-for-action body.
The guy was still wearing his questionable and snobby look. But deep inside, he thought the woman looked familiar, and it quickly dawned on him that she was the one who had intervened in their thrilling race. He marveled at how small the world seemed.
'A nosy woman from the racing event', the young man thought.
"Are you the son of Mr. Zhang?" she asked in a more sincere tone, striving to sound respectful and kind. She had to be patient, as identifying the wrong person could complicate matters.
"Isn't it obvious?" His words made her feel as if all the blood in her body had rushed to her head, boiling with frustration.
'So, he's the son of a billionaire. No wonder he's receiving threats from criminals. This guy's behavior is inviting trouble.
He lent her the key to his car, which made her look confused. "What's this?" she asked innocently.
He scoffed, getting pissed at how she acted. "Can't you see? It's my car key," he said angrily.
This guy's attitude is testing her patience! But instead of showing how frustrated she is, she insisted on looking so kind to him. She sighed heavily and confidently looked him in the eye with a bit of a sarcastic smile.
"Well, I'm sorry if I asked you even if I knew already what it is. But can I ask what I can do with it?" She sarcastically smiled after saying that. He was surprised by the woman's behavior. He thought that this woman was insulting him.
"You are now my bodyguard, right? Then drive me home right now," he said, feeling offended. She sighed heavily and took the key he handed her. She was really not in the mood right now; he was testing her patience to the extreme!
There is nothing she can do. She sighed again and quickly closed her eyes in annoyance as Zhang Jin got into the back seat of his car. She followed him but got into the driver's seat. Of course, she remembered what Zhang Jin had said—she needed to drive him home. 'A prince requests,' she whispered and smiled sarcastically.
With the hum of the car's engine breaking the silence, Lian Qiang took a deep breath, trying to contain her bubbling frustration. She couldn't believe she was now serving as a driver for a spoiled brat. But her professionalism demanded patience. However, that patience was quickly reaching its limit.
"Can't you drive any faster? Or are you deliberately trying to waste my time?" Zhang Jin's snarky comment came from the back seat, oozing with condescension.
Lian Qiang's knuckles whitened on the steering wheel. Her voice, though firm, betrayed a hint of the fire she felt. "I'm ensuring your safety, Mr. Zhang. Maybe if you appreciated the gravity of your situation, you'd understand that."
Zhang Jin, however, scoffed audibly. "Oh, please. My safety? This is just a stunt my father's pulling. And you, Ms. Bodyguard, just drive."
Lian Qiang's eyes flashed with annoyance. This wasn't just any assignment; it was a testament to her skills and dedication. She wasn't about to let a pampered young man belittle her work.
Pulling the car over, she turned to face him, her gaze unyielding. "Listen. I am here to ensure nothing happens to you. But if you continue this attitude, it won't make our time together any easier. I am your bodyguard, not your servant. Remember that."
Zhang Jin met her gaze, his eyes widening slightly, perhaps realizing he'd crossed a line. After a tense moment, he leaned back, muttering something under his breath.
